I've been thinking....It sure would be a lot cheaper if I didn't have to buy human hair when doing braids in my hair and I'm wondering if I could just cornrow it back and leave it for a bit, ummmm, without looking like a thug. Yeah, you're laughing at me but some friends kinda' glared at me when I suggested it and wouldn't even let me finish my sentence....who's not afraid? Should I be??? 'Member when the mean girl on the real world did it? Not this season but the season when there were two black girls and the rest of the house thought they were racist??? Ya'll don't know what I'm talking about, do ya?

That's a bad thing that we are judged by our looks unfortunately. I've never had braids in my life (the ones when you use weave, I've braided my hair to air dry before.) I know that people are judged based on the way they look. I personally do not wear braids cause it's just not my style. I know a lot of women on LHCF do wear braids-we'll see what they have to say about this! I would not wear especially now because of my job. It really depends IMO on what you do and who you work for. It's sad to say, but that's how the world is. I'm in the military and I know a few girls personally who had to take their braids out because it looked faddish. Not the microbraids, but the cornrows and the Allen Iverson look. I personally don't see anything wrong if you wanted to wear cornrows to the back. But to answer you question, I believe people are judged on the way they look.

Hi Leshia

I've won the cornrow back style and it's looked very stylish, not at all thugged out. If you want I can email you a couple of pictures of my hair in this style from last summer and you can be the judge.

I think looking thuggish depends on (I hate to say it this way) you...you know, your face and style of dress.

For example, I don't think Alicia Keys *looks* (but I'm sure she can thugh with the best of them, I'm just talking about her style of dress for videos does not look thuggish to me) thuggish with her cornrows, but then there's Da Brat.....

It's all in your outer appearence. A girl at the church I went to was dressed ultra fem. and she had natural cornrows that only went to the middle of her neck, she looked amazing!!

I wear my natural cornrows out only for about the FIRST day

because that's when they are "freshly done" because after working out, I'm rinsing them and then they look about 2 weeks old

So that might be the only issue is if you wash your hair frequently, they will not look as neat so you may have to find something else to do during that time.

Leshia,

I've worn my hair cornrowed going all back, and I got nothing but compliments (although it felt weird wearing it like that because I'm just not used to it). You have a pretty face with a nice smile. I think this style would look great on you. I say go for it, and sport it well.

I agree with the ladies. It all depends on the way you carry yourself. You have a beautiful face and I am sure you can carry it off very well.

Think: Susan Taylor, Alicia Keys. Can't think of anyone else but the list must go on.

Go for it!

Yeah, there's got to be an easier way though. Maybe during the summer, when it's too hot to think??? I'm looking for a break here, not only from buying hair extensions, but from wearing buns and just looking the same (minus curling and blowdrying). I think you are right though, but I was hoping you'd say something else.

This is interesting...I am known for dressing ultra fem and wearing lots of pink. Maybe I could do this? I'm thinking about it. I do work out and run a lot and would need to wash frequently. That's an issue I hadn't thought of. Thank you!

You're awesome. You don't come across TOO many complimentary women anymore.

I had just braided my hair over here in Korea about two months ago and someone who was supposed to be a really good friend saw me that very night and didn't say a word about it. Everyone else came up and told me how much they loved it and so forth. I got to Bible Study the next morning and a mutual friend came up to me and said, "Gail said that you braided your hair and looked really pretty." I said, "That's funny, she never said one word to me." Ya'll know the saying though. Anyhoo, I may try it. It's not too different from what I've got going on right now. I took out the braids that were many, many braids and just whipped some up that took like an hour or so. It's enough to pull back, put up and so forth, but just barely, so you still see some braids but they're not consuming me. Really not much different. Just have to bust out all my pink and frilly and put it to the front of the closet.

Jazz, guess I won't know until I try it right? Besides, if it makes me look like I have a football head, I can always take them out and then come running to type another message, begging for help, right?!

I do appreciate the compliment. Ahhh, finally, real women....
