I am supposed to be on a 26 week stretch.:perplexed... Well last week I had a moment of weakness :wallbash::wallbash:and I went to Sally's and picked up my relaxer. I came home ready to slap on my creamy crack and I noticed my period came. :nono: I cannot relax during my period. everytime I have done this in the past my hair is resistant and it doesn't "take". Well I guess it was for the best anyway. My moment of weakness is over so I'm continuing my stretch. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I do, I have very resistant hair, on top of that my scalp sweats tons during that time and is very tender so i burn easily then as well. I know exactly what your going through.

2 of my sisters are natural but me and my sister that relax both have this problem. I thought something was wrong with us.:ohwell:

Hmm, I've never heard of this. I'm pretty sure that I've had my hair relaxed while I was on my period. I don't remember having any problems though.

I was talking to my friend about this very same thing yesterday. Telling her not to relax during TTOTM. My scalp is extra sensitive and will burn.

I don't relax during my period simply b/c I'm extra sensitive and also have very little patience:perplexed

I've never paid attention. I can't specifically remember if I relaxed during my period or not.

I remember relaxing once during that time, the relaxer didn't come out too well, that was enough to convince me not to try it again.:ohwell:

There's nothing silly about it IMO. As for the hair not turning out right I'm not sure about that, but the scalp is definitely a problem from a week to a few days and during the cycle. Anything like waxing, plucking etc will hurt more. As well as hormonal changes, your body goes through a temperature change also and your skin is extra sensitive. So that coupled with a chemical touchng your scalp can be a fire like experience to some. It was with me and I've self relaxed for years.

even on a self waxing website it states not to wax during that time. It's pretty much one of those 'common knowledge' type things.

Time your wax within your monthly menstrual cycle. Do not wax your bikini line if you are menstruating or suffering from pre-menstrual syndrome. You may find that at this time waxing is more painful than at others.

I thought I was just a wierdo. Yes, over many year sof self-relaxing, I have found that if I relax right before, during, or right after my period my scalp is more sensitive, and the relaxer does not take as well. I learned my lesson and just plan to relax at other times.

ahh, i didn't consider the scalp factor. good point.

i guess what i meant was, in my opinion, i don't think it's true that for x amount of days during the month, my hair strands become more resilient to the point where relaxers aren't as effective. my hair will get relaxed just fine regardless of whether or not aunt flo's in town, and i base the heck out of my scalp, so... i don't avoid relaxers during that time

Dang Pookie you didnt have to make me feel all silly:blush: Like I said this was my personal experience and I wanted to know if this happens to others. Thats why I posted the question in the first place. I have done this on numerous occasions because I said like you" it's impossible for the hair to become more resistent just because I have my period" But Time and time again I have a head full of nappy hair after im done. :perplexed So I now just do it other times.:grin:

I have never heard of this. I do know that some women, including myself cannot relax when they are pregnant. I tried and came out with a root 'fro :nono:

Learn something new everyday.....Good Post!!! :yep:

Interesting... Since I'm a texlaxer & avoiding straight hair... Maybe I'll schedule my next touch-up accordingly :look: :yep:

When I used to relax I used to avoid that time of the month to touch up. Actually it was/is common knowledge for my peeps that one should not relax during that time as the hair would not take well. I am from the Carib btw.

I have never heard of this :lachen:LMAO i just relaxed tonight with lye after 15 yrs of no lye, aunt flow is due any day now :nono: lets just say i have a lovely tex lax after a 3 month stretch:ohwell:

I'm natural now but when I used to relax I HAD to avoid that time and the week preceding as my scalp was too sensitive. It burned and I had to wash the relaxer out prematurely. Just thinking about it brings back the memory of the pain....

I have nothing against relaxers but I'd just rather wear my natural hair and not subject myself to such pain in the name of straight hair - that's one of the main reasons I stopped relaxing.

Would I relax again? Unlikely :nono:

I have never heard of this dilemma before. Learn something new everyday on LHCF. I guess I have a friendly period.:look:

I can't recall ever relaxing during TTOTM. I'd probably avoid it, just because I need extra sleep and alone time then. I wouldn't schedule extra tasks during that time - either an appointment or a day of relaxer prep, relaxing, DC, etc.
