Any Twa Wearers Sick Of The Twa Stage? Venting!!

Ladies I am just venting my frustrations because I feel the need to vent so that I can feel better!

Okay! Am I the only one? I am about to be in my Sixth month of growing out my Twa and it is at that stage where it is too long to have those cute curls it once had when I BC and could wash & go, But it is too short to braid cornrow etc., I tried twisting it and that took me almost 3 hours and I didn't even finish because my arms got tired and plus I looked crazy because they were all sticking up every whichaway. I tried the Headband the soft kind but the headband seemed longer than my Twa and I felt to old to have that headband on (Now maybe when the fro gets bigger it won't look the same and I won't feel the same) I recently thought of the idea of buying a wig and join the wig challenge as well as to leave my hair alone and let it grow, well I live in the Country with what you might as well call a Farm we have horses, dogs, cats, chickens etc. And being in the Texas Heat with a wig just ain't gone cut it! I end up tosing that wig right on off, I have one with kind of a short pixie cut and that got hot to. My hair just seems to always want to breathe, I guess it just want to be cleansed & moistured.

Now I finally can use products right out of the BSS without spending alot of money anymore and I am glad of that. BUT This twa stage is just getting to me, Sometimes I just want to CW detangle and spray my S-curl and go but I have to rub it in and then my waves and what curls I have left say find me. I have very pretty headscarves but My Husband said he is tired of seeing my with them damn scarves,& if I was so proud of my hair why am I covering it! He had a Damn good point and I couldn't say nothing. He has no problem with my hair. I am just VENTING!! I Love my Natural hair it is just looking at the same style for 6 months that is getting to me. Now I see my Twa is getting bigger so I know it is growing.

Thanks Ladies! I feel better already;)

Hey Dear,

When I got to this point...I started braiding/cornrowing it up. This meant the hair was protected and I didn't have to deal with it on a day to day basis. In a couple of months, you will again be able to rock the TWA, but this time with a headband and other cute acessories. Just hold on.

Thank you so much! I am holding on because I know that nice Big Beautiful Fro awaits me!!! I was just having frustrations, I use to love my wash and go's but now they just look all clumped together and crazy, but on July 1st I will be 6 Months my Half way point, I made it this far, I might as well keep on going:D

 At the bolded, cuz I do know EXACTLY what you mean on that. Kinda makes you feel like the little babies that get the cute lacey headbands put on them for church, huh?

NP, to comment on your original post, when I was at this stage I did one of three things.....

1. Covered with a pretty scarf with the big low bun-like thing
2. Wore it in kinky twists/braids
3. Wore wigs w/real hair covered (and braided) underneath

I applaud those that wore their hair out consistently after BC-ing, but I just thought my face looked too funny for that lenght of hair IMO

HTH! :)

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: That is Exactley how I felt!! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

But it looks good on Bigger Fro's or Bigger Twa's but with a 2 inch twa it just wasn't cute to me.

Yeah, when I used to wrap mine with a head scarf, my SO used to say the same things to me, lol. Men! They just don't understand when it comes to the hair . At least it sounds like your husband loves your natural hair as much as you.

But do what feels comfortable to you at each stage in this wonderful "natural" journey ;)

Hang in there girl. At six months I wanted to scream, I was so tired of my hair too! Fortunately it was in the fall/winter and I braided it up and wigged it for a couple of months. I let it out to breath for a month or so, then braided it up again. By my one year anniversary I had a decent amount of growth and for some reason at 14 months it was on lol, for some reason those two extra months just did it for me, I am completely out of the twa stage and I love it. So you just hang in there, you will be out of the twa stage too before you know it:grin:!

Awww mama. I almost didnt recognize that was you with the different avatar. Thinking back I wore a lot of headbands and cute lil scarves as headband. I also rocked huge hoops to add some pizazz and keep it feminine. Accessories on other parts of the body will make you feel more confident too, and maybe a lil makeup if you dont wear it already.

Thank You Ladies! I want to try to cornrow it but some parts are just to short to grab right now, But I just decided to let my hair do it's thing, after I CW I will just spritz some S-curl and go, But I have HIF Disease very bad LOL!! I am always Molesting my own hair, I know that is Terrible, I touch it, pinch it, pull it, tug it, twirl it,twist it,braid it, pick it,fluff it & rub it.

I'd forgotten about this. This adds a great effect to your overall look.

You know what, I need to update my look, I need more earrings, necklaces a new classy watch, new lip gloss, When I get paid on the first I am going shopping for those things, I am not buying new clothes just yet because I am trying to lose weight but I might buy some cute shorts and tops, Damn I feel great Now!!:D I feel on top of the World! That is why I Vent here which is not very often, So when January 1st 2008 Comes we can all look back on this as a Reminder of my Frustrations and those who helped me through it:D

The in-between stages are the worst. When I was growing my hairout I would wear comb coils, scarves, and kufis. You can check my album out if you want.

Yes so much I went into depression. I had to get micros again to get this stuff growning. I am getting good growth.

It seems at the twa stage you hair stays stuck.

I feel your pain! This is my 4th TWA in 8 years! (Kept going back to relaxers then I'ld bc all over again:ohwell:) I am taking this TWA a lot more in stride than other one because I already know what to excpect. Also, this time I have LHFC to help me through! I haven't done any styles as of yet but I think that I am going to try braiding it this weekend. I really think that once you do a little retail therapy you're going to feel great. Nothing like shiny new things to chase away the TWA blues!

Wow! I thought I was the only one! LOL This is my fourth bc in 6 yrs! I'd do the same thing (go and get a relaxer), but I do luv drastic changes. After I did my BC myself (this time) I went to the barbers and got it faded, so now the back, sides, and front are too short for twisting and braiding. I've always worn my twas after every big chop, but for some reason this one is starting to irritate me and I've been wearing my wigs lately. If it's too hot for my wigs I scarve it up. OR I jsut step out with my twa and look cute. Either way, I've been thru this enough times to know that once it grows out, thats it. Then there's a whole new set of things that will aggravate you. BUT BOY I CAN'T WAIT TO ROCK A HUGE FRO!!! ;)

Oh, boy! The infamous TWA stage... I'm also on my 3rd BC in about as many years. I would get so sick of short hair that I didn't know how to care for or appreciate that I'd relax again.

I'm at about 10 mo. post-BC and I just finished putting in my Crown and Glory braids about 2 weeks ago. I cannot tell you what this has done for my self-esteem! I LOVE long hair and felt kinda ugly, fat and masculine with the TWA.

I definately agree that doing some more "feminine" stuff may help you to feel pretty again. I purchased some make-up and fifty million yards of fabric to make some pretty new dresses for myself. (Can you say clearance sale at Joann's! $1 a yard for pretty cotton florals, hello!!!!!!!!)

DH was grumping about my hair cuz he used to love my shoulder length relaxed locks. He'd comb my hair so gently. Now he LOVES my braids and says I look beautiful.

I highly reccomend getting some braids in once it's feasible. This may keep you from breaking the hair off with Hand In Fro disease and raise your spirits till you're over the hump.

Good luck!!!!!!!

6 months was my worst time!! I know exactly how you feel. However, I wore cornrows for two weeks, and before the braider cornrowed it, she blew it out with a blowdryer, and I saw long (well "long") my hair actually was. After I took the cornrows out, I started to braid at night (I was struggling a lot in the beginning, because my hair was still quite short) so I could wear my hair stretched the next day. The scrunchy didn't look so bad after that. You could always use a thinner headband, because then you would see more hair than band?
Otherwise, just hang in there, time will jsut fly by, and before you know it another six months have passed! :)

I sympathize girl! I rocked a TWA for about three days, and then I was in braids and kinky twists until my hair grew to a length I could be comfortable with. It took some time, but I did it. Hold on. It'll grow, and you'll have that BAA you've been dreaming of.
I'm also consigning with the other ladies that accessories, and makeup will help the process too.

WOW! Thanks Ladies, I see we have all been there LOL!! I will be visiting albums, everything was Fine until that 6 month mark is about to hit, But I will get through it, I didn't want to transition because I am impatient and couldn't deal with 2 textures, Friday is My 32nd B-Day so I will do some shopping then( time flies) Also this is like my 5/6th time BC, I always went back to a Relaxer because of style issues not texture. But I am gonna make it, I am gonna pull through it, I will continue my Counseling Sessions on LHCF and things will be great!!!

I know this is helping others as well who are Frustrated with the Twa!!!
