Any Naysayers and who is laughing now.

I found this board in Oct of 2003. I was going to my stylist every week. She was giving me a touch up every 5 wks and a trim. Once I found this board I learned about protective styles and stretching out my relaxers. I told my stylist of my plans and to grow my hair to waist length. Do you know what the heifer said? She said it could not be done  . She was right. If I kept going to her every week and letting her touch it up and trim every 5 wks, it could not have been done. I immediately went out and bought me a quick weave wig and stopped going to her every week only 3-4 months when I get my touchup. My hair was 1-2 inches pass my shoulders but now thanks to everyone here it is 1.5 inches to brastrap. Who is laughing now. :lachen: Now my stylist is stretching her relaxer. She would give herself a touch every 4 wks. Now she is a believer. I believe in helping anyone I can. I gave her the name of the site but she did not seem interested and I started sharing my tips with her about vitamins etc..Come to find out she was already taking biotin and hair and nails vitamins and every other vitamin under the sun because she never had long hair. I was immediately put out because she never shared that with her patron and that's why she has so few. Selfish heifer was trying to grow her own hair. It doesn't matter because mine has outgrown her because I had it cut really short one time.

She is so fortunate to have you in her life. She was probably praying for info on how to have longer hair and you demonstrated how it's done and shared it with her! Hopefully, she appreciated all you have done.

When I told my Aunt that I was going to grow out my relaxer she said that my hair was too damaged to every grow as long as it was before I was relaxed. Every time I saw her she would say "you need a perm, your hair looks horrible, if you cut it, it will never grow back. Well I hadn't seen her in 3 years. When she saw how my hair had grown this past summer she said "what are taking what products are you using". She then tried to say that I had good hair and genes that I inherited from her dad's side of the family and that she could never grow her hair long.

She uses curling irons often, never trims her hair and relaxes it bone straight faithfully ever 6 weeks. Her poor daughter's hair looks like straw because she uses heavy greases on it that just coats the hair, as well as braids it too tight.

Congratulations unlvgirl, your hair is gorgeous. I got to the point where I think showing is believing so I don't share my hair goals with anyone outside LHCF,

Thanks Isis. When I first told her I was stretching out my relaxer she said my hair was gone to shed and come out and then she turned around and started stretching out hers as mine grew longer.

There will always be naysayers. Ignorance is bliss I tell ya. She had nerve to try to grow out her hair and not tell clients. Why is it that they think it's some big secret?

Thru the board I taught my co-worker about friendlier hair care practices and her hair has thrived. She's taught her mother and now her sister is psyched.

When she went down south for the holidays she had a fresh touchup after extending for 6 months and wore it down. She told me that when her sister picked her up from the train station and saw her hair that she wouldn't leave her alone the whole ride home. Asked alot of questions and wanted to go to the BSS right that minute. When she saw her cousins everybody kept pulling at her hair, feeling for tracks, etc. One of them did not say a single word. Just looked at her hair and looked away. That's a hater for ya! LOL When they started asking her questions she said that she kept doing what she TOLD them she was doing before and nobody listened. Proof is in the pudding.

I wonder what your stylist will say once you are below bra strap. Careful. She may try to scalp ya because she is going to be envious.

   Brickhouse! Thank goodness you had the good sense to get out of her chair. I guess she was just being honest though, she had no idea of how to help you get to waist length since she's having no luck w/her own hair! ;)

Oh my goodness I hate when people do that! I go through that the rare occasion I wear my hair down can we please start a "stop checking for tracks" movement

I have always had fine hair. When I found this board, I immediately became a junkie. I formed a relationship with the guys at the Vitamin Shoppe. On every trip to Atlanta, I was all over (from 20 to 75/85 to 285) looking for Dominican conditioners and salons. My mother and sister never were naysayers, but they kept talking about going "overboard" and "hair addiction." Slowly, but surely, they have started using my products with success, but still seem to think the vitamins are overkill. Recently, my mother set my hair and was shocked at its thickness and the length, even with highlights. Now, she wants me to be her guide when she goes to the Vitamin Shoppe next weekend. My sister even asked last week about what Tracy thinks about a certain hair color. You know I talk about it a lot when they can mention members without being on the board at all.

Thanks Honi. I love you hair. I have stalked your albums many times. You are one of my hair inspirations.

I could not believe my stylist was trying to grow her hair out and would not tell her patrons. That's why she no longer have any and she is going to school to be a nurse. I told some people at work and now they are stretching our their relaxers and they are thanking me. :)

Thanks Sengschick,Poohbear and Mona Lisa. I am so glad that I started taking care of my own hair and now it is so healthy and long. I think everybody in middle GA perm there hair every 4-5 wks. I am so thankful for finding LHCF or my hair would have still been shoulder length.

carolina belle you have me cracking up when you said your sister wanting you to ask Tracy about a certain hair color. :lachen: When I first came found this board I was on it so much I thought my family was going to commit me. My younger sis was negative until my hair outgrew hers. She always had the long hair in the family. Now she is a member. She was a naysayer at first. Her daugther was 3 when she finally joined and now she is 5. I used to go over to their house and she will be giving my neice a cw or she will have conditioner on her hair with a plastic bag. :lachen: The girl was only 3 and it would crack me up. My neice even sleeps with a satin bonnet on .

Congratulations on your success.

I dont say anything out side lhcf but, when they see results ha shame on them. People think Iam lazy becouse I keep my hair in a bun but, when I take it out . "EYES WIDE OPEN". HAPPY HAIR GROWING!

Most people laugh if I tell them that I belong to a hair board. But those same people keep coming to me for tips, product advice, or free samples. I have made a few Surge and mango butter addicts, too. I've even got a few asking when our next meeting is but will they actually join the board? Heavens no. :look:

Same here!!! Especially my sister. She'll blow her breath or roll her eyes if I mention one thing about hair. The next minute, she'll ask me to do a search on hair tips or products.

I haven't really told anyone about my hair goals except my dad and my boyfriend...both of them believe I can get to waist length by Dec 05 or sooner. When I try to talk about hair care with my friends and my sisters, they listen half-heartedly, because they can't live without glued in tracks, microbraids, and curling irons. My sister that is 17 is doing much better than she was...she now rollersets, and keeps her hair moisturized and shampooed and conditioned once a week. It used to be dry as wool and in a ponytail ALL THE TIME. One on my coworkers thought I was crazy to stretch my relaxer, but she just stares at my hair since my touch-up last week because it grew 2.5 inches without hair growth products. I just took my supplements and drank water, did daily CO washes (which everyone thought was stupid).

Stylist can def be naysayers. I used to question my old beautician "why do I always have New Growth, but my hair is the same length"...answer "that is the length you hair is programmed to be" .....ohhh Raheely!!

I'm not Mad though, but I will have to visit the salon and get my nails done or something once I get to BSL or even before. My hair now is pretty much the longest that it would get in the past, Minus my Jerry Curl years.

My mom thought that:

I was using too many products on my hair, I was taking too many vitamins, I was washing my hair too much and that my hair would fall out. She even said the infamoust "you're not white!" comment.

Now that I have a nearly perfect regimen for my hair, she says that my hair is beautiful and that she wants it like mine but she isn't going to do all the stuff that I do to my hair. :)

Brickhouse, I'm not so sure I would trust her with my hair anymore. :nono:

I am not sure if I trust her. She would always show me exactly how much she was trimming but last time she kept turning me away from the mirror. :( I been knowing her a lifetime and she is not crazy enough to jack me up on purpose. I only go at touchup time and I bring my own products.

Senimoni, I look at your comparison shot and your hair is looking good. Keep up the good work and you will show your stylist as well. :)
