Any easy tips on how to cornrow hair?

I have a hard time cornrowing hair. I been trying to do this for awhile and it hasn't happen yet. I looked online and it tells you the steps, but that didn't help at all. Those anyone have some tips or tutorials on how to cornrow hair for beginners.

The cornrowing everyone seems to do, the one that ends up looking pretty like there's a rope sitting on someone's head I find rather clumsy to do, so I know what you mean. The results of that way of cornrowing (where you go "under not over" looks like this:

The way I learned to cornrow is the other way: over not under which gives cornrows that look like this, and I find it easier to do:

and then I also cornrow "sideways" for want of a better way to call it, and that is easy to do. I just don't know how to explain it except to say your hands are to the side of the cornrow and you're moving sideways instead of toward yourself. I'm not good at making demo vids so if this doesn't make sense, forget I even spoke. But that way of cornrowing gives a look like a flat twist:

MooksHair on LHCF has a video on how to cornrow. I have not been successful at all trying to do them. I can't even do a basic 3 strand braid. I am trying to learn.
