Anti-Bun

I got my first anti-bun remark this weekend. I've been dating a guy for a couple weeks and my hair has been down or in a pony tail for all our dates. Well, we had a date this Friday which meant I had to leave work, get my clothes and get ready. My hair was a boring mess so I decided to slap some gel in and do a sophisticated bun- complimented with a nice make-up job.

I thought I looked really good and so did my girl friend . She came out with us (double date).

Well on Sunday my guy friend told me that I looked beautiful on Friday but "please don't wear that bun again". He said that a bun makes him feel as if I didn't put much effort in making preparations for the date. He also said (and I"m not quoting) but he basically doesn't believe that the bun compliments me as much as the other styles.

I can respect his honesty but I was blown away. I mean, I LOVED my bun (sans the gel). I thought he'd be inlove with it too.

Unfortunately guys are dumb! They think that if your hair is down and flowing you put more energy into it, than when in a bun when sometimes a very cute bun takes more energy than a loose style. At least he was honest, what did you say in response?

My hubby is the same. He ALWAYS wants me to wear my hair out..."just let it hang down" /images/graemlins/orders.gif he'll scream. Men love flowing hair /images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's what my friend said. I took his comment as constructive criticism. I told him that I won't wear the bun around him again (I might though). I didn't jump at his throat b/c I want him to know that he can be open with me...besides, now I know that I can make comments about the gel he puts in his hair.

Hey sweetnic--

and so what if he does not like it... if you like it, then by all means, continue to rock it........

My bf is more subtle. "Why don't you wear your hair down more often?" But then his eyes glaze over when I start to discourse about supplements and length goals and Surge and "the hair board." Just be thankful that I'm with you, buddy.

MAKE HIM STOP, MAKE HIM STOP!!! /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

My husband is the same way. My hair could be cute, but he will still say, I like it when your hair is straight.

LOL!!!! Oh, man you must have missed the thread titled "Is he gay/dL"...Whooo, this guy is a different one - I call it Metro-hip.

Sherrylove, you are completely right. WMLB also instructed that so I may have to push back on his request. Poor guy though, if he can't stand a bun then I don't know how he'll deal with my "Mama's family" rollers!

Oh no is that the same guy !!

LOL! Yes, I think I told you about it last night. It's the same one.

My boyfriend hates my buns with the ut-most passion!!! haha Do you think that has stopped me from wearing them EVERYDAY, hell no.. He has gotten used to it...

Yes, most guys do like long, flowing hair, but I remember a few years ago I was briefly dating an Indian guy and he told me that he actually preferred me with my hair up... I was quite surprised, but I kind of agree that when my hair is up, it brings out my eyes more. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

What's with these metro-sexuals? My ex, I would categorize as metrosexual...and he openly made "suggestions" to my look.... /images/graemlins/angry2.gif

Sure it's constructive criticism--but I wouldn't stop wearing buns around a guy because he didn't like it that much. Heck--even I prefer my hair down....but it's just not reality that it will be.... /images/graemlins/wink.gif

this reminds me of my former FWB/bf he loves long hair...but guess what I did the BC anyway. Screw it.

Ditto, You know that you put much effort into your hair no matter what style it's in, we all know this being a part of this board so definitely rock your bun!

Man! I would have gotten hot if he said that to me, honosty or no honosty! But I have been known to scare guys off so pay me no mind, lol!
I can understand him preferring your hair down cause it seems most men do, but his statement about it not looking like you put in effort was very presumptious! I'll have him know I ran late to work today cause I was trying to work my hair into a nice, neat bun. (I like it to have a certain shape)

Anyway, men need to learn it isn't always about them and women today have busy lives and we can't always spend hours getting ready so we can look how they want us to. If I put effort in, whether it be 15 minutes or 2 hours, its effort none the less and he best be happy with it if its the best I can give him at the time!

I think most men like hair down...heck, I think most people like hair down, but the reality of retaining growth can't always allow that. Anyway, he sure is bold for some dude who's only been on the scene a couple weeks. Tell him you can't reach your goal being sexy /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

/images/graemlins/rofl.gif Yeap, that's so true. /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I remember I cut my hair and I remember my ex-boyfriend was like "you're hair looks ugly" /images/graemlins/rofl.gif He was an idiot & still is. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

personally i think hair that is loosley pinned up in a "tosseled/bedhead" sort of way is just as sexy as wearing the hair down.

My husband hates my bun but I wear it anyway. I tell him "You like long hair? Well this is what I have to do to get it." That usually shuts him up for a while. I will wear my hair down if we are going out somewhere special and he makes a special request. Other than that it is buns and french twists for me.

What is it about hair that men are so obsessed about? I swear hair is right up there with breasts. In fact I bet if a guy had to choose between a flat-chested woman with long, thick, beautiful hair or a busty, voluptious woman with a pixie cut...well wonder who they would choose?

There are always exceptions. This woman I worked with had gorgeous, healthy ,waist length, hair. I about flipped out when she said her husband requested she wear it in a bun instead of a ponytail! I would think he would prefer the long flowing locks coming from a ponytail instead of it pinned up in a bun but she said he much preferred the bun and thought the ponytail was ugly! Maybe because he also preferred short hair(she had a bob cut when they first met).He is from Croatia(she is Brazilian), so maybe its an Eastern European thing? LOL!

see now thats just rude! /images/graemlins/mad.gif jerk! /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

i personally am anti-bun myself. the librarian look is a no-go. and they hurt my head /images/graemlins/mad.gif

im with ayeshia, upswept hair is just as sexy and becoming as long flowing hair to me. and then again some long flowing hair looks like a rug or wool coat...i digress.

I know that's right!!! You gotta suffer through w/me brotha man /images/graemlins/wink.gif. I'm lucky though b/c the Mister issues compliments no matter what. He sees my hair down when I'm romping around the house (& it's all over the place!!), so maybe he's not so pressed about 'seeing it' down.

YEAH!

I am so happy for this thread /images/graemlins/clap.gif! My Fiance HATES it when I wear my hair in a bun!!!!! To make matters worse, we went to visit my little cousin in college this past weekend and I called her from the road on our way down and the first questions she asked was "Are you wearing that darn bun again???" I hadn't seen her in over a year so I died laughing.

I guess buns don't win popularity contests (at least not outside of work /images/graemlins/smile.gif)
