I plan on getting a full head weave - like the one in the other thread. I do, however, plan on washing same at least 1-2x per week and i wanted to know if that would b a bad idea meaning that my own hair - braided underneath - will be constantly wet and not really getting the air it needs to dry due to the weave. Should i just do it once a week or let the pros take care of it? i plan on getting hair that doesn't 'uncurl' when wet if such a thing exists.

since i will b hitting the gym 4-5 days per week during my lunch hour and don't want to come back to work with a sweaty head and a clean body

When I had a wetnwavy weave/braid combo I washed almost every day because I was exercizing. You just have to make sure you get hair that will retain the shape.

that's the problem...im not weave savvy so i don't know what to get
frown.gif
i hate just walking into some place and buying what the salesppl tell me to get... i'd rather have my girls on the forum hook me up so i go in there knowing what im talking about.

Ya'll are nutty.

I personally can't wash a weave more than once per week because my cornrows would loosen and the style would be dead before it's alive.
laugh.gif

But, I see nothing wrong with washing your own.

Just make sure you have a shampoo that lathers really well and is moisturizing. I remember when I bought some cheap hair and then washed my hair with Head & Shoulders. That shampoo killed that poor hair.

K... thanks for chiming in.
i wanted to ask u what kind of hair would i get that would enable me to rock this style

also, would it be human, if so, i wouldn't b able to wash it myself rite? so i would need synthetic correct? how long would i keep it in and how should the cornrows b, front to back or around in a circle and lastly, how would they put it in so it looks real - think brandy or beyonce's hairline
barf.gif
, i dont want that looks
laugh.gif

Well, for curly hair, I personally prefer synthetic because with human hair, there's no guarantee that after you shampoo it, the curl pattern will return. Plus, syntheic is cheaper and if you don't like the style, you won't feel a huge loss monetarily. The only thing about the synthetic is that the curls may feel a little hard, rather than soft like hers look. I wear a pony out of wefted synthetic hair by Sensationnel that looks like that. I think it's called "Spring Curl." With synthetic hair, you can wash it and get it wet without worrying that the curls may disappear. The only thing you have to worry about is frizz, and I just cut the frizz out of mine.
smile.gif
But sometimes, frizz adds to the character of the style, depennding on how the frizz looks and how much of it there is.

For this style, I think it would be best to get your cornrows done in a circular pattern. It will be easier for you to shampoo it with this method and the curls will fall around your head better.
smile.gif
Also, do you plan on having it covering your head? Even if not, you can leave a little hair out around the edges from ear to ear and blend it with the curls. If you have a lot of newgrowth, that will look even better and more natural for this style if you leave any hair exposed.

There's a poster here whom I saw with this same weave or one very similar in her album. I'll see if I can find it for yuh.

Lookie what I found?

Caramelhonee,

are you going to let Ellin from Lavar Hair Designs do you weave?

thanks K...
i want my whole head done. i don't want any of my hair out b/c i don't want to have to worry about trying to get it to look just like the weave, u know.

p.s. girl u r a treasure trove of information and thanks for the link. is that hair that i can wash? and they cut it that short rite - hopefully? also, when the stylist picks it apart, will it look the way i want it to look (b/c the link is too tite for my big ole head).

@ nice - HELL NO!!! i don't have $1k just lying around

CarmelHonee here's that info from Cybra: As for the synthetic hair, one way to soften it before using it is with liquid fabric softener! That's right, fabric softener. Keep in mind, many clothes have synthetic in them so the softener can break ti down very easily and make the hair silky soft. What you want to do is:

Take the hair from the cardboard, but DON'T take the rubberband off...lay the hair aside. In a large mixing bowl or in the face sink, catch some WARM (NOT HOT) water and mix in about 3 TBS of fabric softener. Gently lower the hair into the water. (I use my hand to stroke the length of the hair to make sure it is all pretty wet) I do this to each pack I am going to use. Once they are all good and wet, I prop them so they can sit in the water for about 5 mins...you can leave them longer if you'd like. I then let the water out and run cool water in the sink. I gently dip the hair "up an down" in the clean water to remove the fs. Then, holding tight to the top of the hair (part above the rubber band), I run my hand down the length of the hair to get as much water out as possible. Then, I get a skirt hanger (that has the clamps on it) and I clip the hair onto it. I hang this in my shower and let it dry overnight. If you don't have a skirt hanger, you can also take the rubberband off and drape the hair over a PLASTIC hanger and let it dry overnight. The next day is will be really soft...I hold on to it at the top and gently brush down the length to undo any tangles, then I use it in my hair. You'll find that it has less friction and it's very nice to work with. Also, if the fabric softener has a nice scent, so will your hair for days! I used the "mountain fresh" downy and I loved how it smelled for an entire week...people kept saying I smelled so nice, like the outdoors... If you reuse the hair, which I often do, I will redo it in the fabric softener so it will smell good again. Also, when I take the braids out, although the synthetic hair is wavy, it has such a soft wave that makes it look like human hair, so I make my "phony pony" with it. You'll have to see my pics to see what I mean.

Daggit, I just typed this long post and deleted it by mistake.

Anyway, I was saying
laugh.gif
that you have to go by the measurements on the pack of hair. I personally wouldn't buy any tight curly hair that is under 12" because when they give those measurements, a lot of companies DO NOT take into account shrinkage.
mad.gif
So, your 12" hair looks like 7.
laugh.gif

Also, when you buy the hair, please take into account that when curly hair is in the pack, it looks plumper than once you take it out the pack. The reason being when you take it out the pack, you have to unravel the wefts (the thing the hair is hooked onto) and the curls become skinner. They only hook them together in the pack to save space. This also helps preserve the shape of the curls. But once you take it out the pack and unravel it, those curls will separate from each other, resulting in skinnier curls. That's why in the link I gave yuh, the hair looks thicker in the pack than on her head. Just a heads up.

Girl, I was about to say......

CH, you know that with that type of style, you can make a wig too, rather than pay to get it sewn in.
look.gif
You'll need a shower cap (to place on your head before the stocking cap so no glue seeps through onto your own hair), a perfect fitting stocking cap, some weave glue, and the hair.
smile.gif

But it takes practice. I made one for my mom, but the band around the stocking cap kept hanging, so I just cut it so it wouldn't be visible. By doing this, my dumbazz ruined the damn thing, and it was right before she had to go to church.

I had to whip out one of my Sensationnel Instant weaves, and cut it to match her face.

I dont see anything wrong with your idea as long as your hair is protected and you're not fooling with it.

laugh.gif

thanks for the wig suggestions... im definately feeling them.

last question, won't a wig make u hotter than a full head weave?

LOL.
laugh.gif
I've never worn wigs, just Instant weaves (Style HZ 7009 is a little similar to what you want as well, except the curls are a little teeny bit bigger). But instant weaves aren't hot at all, and I think the wigs made today are better compared to the thick ones from yesteryear.
laugh.gif

I tell you one thing. If you get hot, you can take that bad boy off later on and wash your hair thoroughly, unlike with a weave.

Maybe some Afro Kinky hair, and you could fluff it up to get the look you want? And I have a closure part attached to my current sewn-in weave and my hair line looks natural, but I've never seen a closure part made with curly hair
