Another rave for Motions Oil - and FINALLY...

a pleasant relaxing experience..... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

This must all be some kind of omen or lesson for me about rediscovering lost treasures....

Today I went to an old stylist I used to use in Harlem. I got a touch up and a trim. I am pleased to say that this is the FIRST touch up in about a year where 1. it was non-traumatic and 2. I didn't burn.

The salon is called Sandra's. It's on 138th and Broadway. The owner, Sandra (how convenient! /images/graemlins/tongue.gif), did my hair (and has everytime I've gone there - there's no one else really). She charged me $50 for a trim and a perm. I brought her Motions Oil Moisturizing Relaxer because I could not afford Elucence right now and I wouldn't have been able to for another two months or so. My touch up can't wait that long - so I decided to go with the runner up - Motions Oil. Sandra has always applied relaxers in a manner that I have yet to find in a stylist - she manages to get the relaxer on the newgrowth with NO relaxer cream touching the scalp until the very last smooth through, and she NEVER brings the relaxer past about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from the scalp - a great sign that minimal overlapping will occur. These things for me were always impressive about her as I've never found them anywhere else. Ever. One or the other thing was always missing from the equation. These two things are very important to me. She was too far and that was why I stopped going to her. But I am reformed...

She relaxed me, neutralized, conditioned with Motions Moisture Plus, and rollerset me. She trimmed me while wet. My hair has gorgeous shape and she barely took off any hair. I did not burn, tingle or have any tender places in my scalp. That may be due in part to the MO relaxer, but whatever the case, Sandra and MO relaxer are both PERMANENT touch up must haves from now until she closes or Motions stops making the stuff.

I am a happy camper....

Epilogue....After my terrible evening yesterday, I woke up this AM and decided to take my frustrations out on my hair /images/graemlins/blush.gif. It wasn't cooperatiing, the front in particular, and I got a scissor and hacked a huge piece off right over my nose. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif I turned that into bangs (which I had been trying to grow out now since the summer. They were about an inch below my nose which fellow bang growers know is TRAGIC). Sandra fixed those, and now I have bangs - ones that I will have to begin growing out again - but even, normal looking ones instead of what I was working with circa 9 o'clock this morning. And they're not even that short.

All is well that ends well...this may be a decent weekend yet... /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hi Tracy,

I'm really thrilled you had such a great experience at the hairdressers! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Lucky girl, I still can't find a hairdresser that I like. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif Next time you are going through a crisis, please don't take it out on your hair! Remember your words: "Make nice with your hair, please!" I do hope you have a great weekend! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's my old neightborhood!!!! Well sorta kinda--- I went to City College. This was my first taste of NY!!!!! And I never knew about Dominican salons then---what a shame---all the hours that I spent sleeping, and playing cards (basically not studying) in between classes --when I could have been getting my hair done.

I know it sounds stupid...but this really drives me cuckoo...can you guys just imagine what my hair would have looked like if I had known about the treasure that lie just around the corner? I would have been there weekly at those affordable prices!!!! Four years y'all!

Oh well....sorry there....I'm still on vacation and Tracy's post just sent me down memory lane.........I miss my college days.....

But anyways, Tracy congratulations on your wonderful hair experience!!!!!!! I'm going to print this post out so that after I go broke from going to Marvin, /images/graemlins/grin.gif, I will have a bank of salons I may want to frequent.

Thanks so much for sharing!!!! Oh and about taking the frustrations out on the hair...I have soooo been there (in high school)..and what a disaster that was! But at least it was only your bangs!!! That must be a common thing however, though, because Marvin has a tip on his site about not cutting your hair when you're upset........

Well.....it doesn't matter.....you're a happy camper now and that's ALL that matters!!!!!!!!

My goodness am I STILL rambling? /images/graemlins/blush.gif

At last you got a touch up!! I"m glad it worked out good. I know you didn't want just anyone to do it. Isn't it good to find/rediscover a hairstylist that you can rely on? They're worth the inconvenience of going to for the peace of mind you get.

Can't wait to see your new trim. When you get a mo, could you email me? (I've lost your hotmail address at home). /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Ah Miss Tracy, So after your hair acting all funny, is it feeling and acting right since your touch up?? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm glad you had a good relaxing experience with the motion oil relaxer and your new stylist.

Thanks guys! And thanks to all who recommended this relaxer. The stylist was an added bonus.... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

LD: My hair is acting great. The only missing piece is the color which I'm still undecided on. I may just go with the glassy black haired Aaliyah look - but the reds are tempting.... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

BRH: Yes finally! Will email you chica....check by tomorrow...

Daviine: DO let us know how it goes with Marvin. JUST in case Sandra closes! /images/graemlins/grin.gif What is the url for Marvin's site?

Pebbles: I'll make nice. /images/graemlins/grin.gif Temporary insanity.... /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks again guys - color and continued care to follow. I want to see how NACIDIT responds to freshly relaxed hair....CAN'T WAIT TO WASH! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tracy--

Didn't I tell you a loooooong time ago that Motions Oil Relaxer was DA BOMB?!!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad it worked well for you...and I just might have to check Miss Sandra out. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes!!! I'm really glad the motions oil worked for you. I've been singing about that relaxer ever since I tried it 5 months ago. I've touched my hair 3 times with it and not one single burn. Heck a jacked up stylist even mistakenly based a portion of my scalp with it and I still didn't burn!!! Plus it's inexpensive and readily available. It blows away affirm anyday in my book!
