Calling all ladies who use and/or are knowledgeable about alma oil...Can you please let me know the following...

What is it? (Does it come from a berry or plant, etc.)
What is it "known" for? (i.e. Jojoba is known for being close to sebum)
How do you use it in your hair routine? What brand?
Also, I think I heard somewhere that it has mineral oil in it. Is that true?

I did a search and didnt find anything...so I figured I would just ask...TIA Laides!!:D

EDIT: ROFL:lachen: Okay...I just realized that I inverted the letters...its amla oil..okay I found the threads now...NO NEED TO RESPOND...

Traditional Ayurvedic Oils are created by steeping a special selection of ayurvedic herbs in water to create a strong herbal infusion. This water is then added to oil, usually sesame or coconut oil, and the oil is then gently warmed until all of the moisture is evaporated.

The Amla fruit, also known as the Indian Gooseberry, comes from a small tree that grows throughout India. The tree is worshipped as Mother Nature due to its nourishing fruit. The fruit is one of the highest natural sources of vitamin C. The Amla fruit yields an extract that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat the hair and scalp. It is said to penetrate the scalp and strengthen hair at its root, to stop and reverse abnormal hair loss and to promote stronger, healthier hair growth.

Our Ayurvedic Amla Oil is made by infusing cold pressed sesame oil with amla fruit. It is an excellent conditioner to use as a hot oil treatment. Use amla oil in shampoos, conditioning rinses, hair pomades and oil treatments. It can also be used in combination with Brahmi oil to strengthen the hair and add body.

Origin: India
INCI Nomenclature: Sesamum indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Emblica Officinalis Extract
Extraction Method: Special Method
Shelf Life: 2 Years

some amla oil is diluted with mineral oils and other oils plus a lot of perfume for scent.

fnwl has pure unscented amla oil. http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/product.asp?product_id=ayuroilamla

qhemet has a pure amla oil pomade. http://www.qhemetbiologics.com/pomades.php

You shoudl try pm-ing Sistaslick.. She gave me the heads up on Alma oil but I know very little about it. Im still tinkering with it but she's been using it for some time now... And we've all seen her hair :)

Oh Lawd here we go again. I need to seek some therapy for all the product I so easily fall away too. Ordering some tomorrow.

I order mine at from nature with love website which is made with seasme oil and has no scent (well as non scented as it can be at least) I ordered the smallest size, seeing as I don't use that much of it, it will probably last me quite a long time.

Dabur hair oil is rather heavily scented (it smells that way to me at least) and not to my liking. I think that one is made with mineral oil, though not entirely sure.

I bought the Qhemet amla oil pomade before realizing that amla is sometimes extracted in a base of sesame oil. The Qhemet's pomade has the sesame oil as a base. It's very strong smelling and I'll have to add essential oils to change the smell before I can use it.

that's a good point. it does have a nutty smell but i didn't attribute it to the sesame oil. it does smell like sesame oil.

I have soem amla oil, I dont use. I tried it once and hated it. I used it as a pre poo treatment and my hair was hard as hell!:perplexed

So now you got me thinking, amla oil should be applied to the scalp. As in a massage? There is another i had bought some amla oil and there was some Hydroquinone in it. Correct me if im wrong but hydroquinone is what is put in skin lightening products. Why is in that oil???

this is the brand i bought many months ago!http://www.eastwestbazaar.com/produ...s_id=754&sid=41c84ceafc13a7247b407dcd62045ddb

eeee, well pure amla will only contain amla infused in oil. most people put it on their scalps or use it as a hot oil or pre poo treatment. i have no idea why amla oil would contain hydroquinone. that's crazy. i think dabur contains mineral oil.

I've used Dabur alma oil on and off for years, and i love it, especially as hotoil treatments and for creating great shine on the hair.

So i can use amla oil strictly for scalp massages and i dont have to rinse it out, i can you use it as a leave in scalp massage oil?

What is it? (Does it come from a berry or plant, etc.) - i think its a berry

What is it "known" for? incouraging growth, makking the hair stronger and over time - darker...also thicker

How do you use it in your hair routine? What brand? i use dabur. i use it a night b4 i wash my hair and ONLY ever comb my hair whilst amla oil is in it (it detangles my hair, esp after no combing for a week)

Also, I think I heard somewhere that it has mineral oil in it. Is that true? Dabur does, butu can get pure amla from those oil sites

may i add. amla oil is my best friend and its made my hair strong and lustrous.

Hey Candy_C!!

I've been using Amla for about an year now. I love it though I'm out right now. My fiancee doesn't like the smell of the Dabur (which I love) so my mom inherited 2 large bottles of it. I am going to buy the dried fruit and make my own infusion w/either sesame or coconut oils (and toss in some Emu for good measure).

I sure miss using it. :cry3:
