Please pay attention to the annoucement. If you see someone... please PM to change their signatures.

Ladies,

We go through this every single year. It appears that most of you are respectful of the fact that we do have some rules here and you abide by it. However some of you chose not to follow the said rules.

One of the rules we have is that we do not allow advertising in the forum. Period. If you want to advertise, there is a special package for you that you can select and pay for (check under your Control Panel / Subscriptions). This will allow you to become a Seller and you can exchange ideas in the Vendors/Sellers forum. Any other form of advertisement is not allowed and will result in immediate ban from this site.

You are allowed the following hyperlinks to your posts/signatures:
1. Links within the forum - i.e. check this topic
2. Links to your FOTKI album - ONLY FOTKI not a blog
3. Links to your Long Hair Care Forum powered blog
4. Tinkerfactory counters
5. Small pictures that do not hinder the navigation of members on dialup

No links to personal sites. No links to personal blogs. No links to YouTube blogs - No links in general other than the ones mentioned above.

Excuse the ignorance, but what's a YouTube blog? Does that include videos? Coz I've been guilty of posting those. :sekret: I have found vids very helpful so please don't tell me that those have to stop. :cry4:

What about if there's some information found on another site, which is a helpful answer to a question someone posted, are we allowed to post the link?

You can still post any link that you want. You just can't stick it in your signature.

At least that's the impression I got - but rereading it, maybe they are banning links. :ohwell: That seems - odd.

Is this coming from the Mods? Moderators can You Please chime in to Help us Understand whats going on?

I've read the notice more than once, and I don't think they're banning relevant links in posts.

ALL Links are banned? That doesn't make any sense. What if its a link to the NY Times regarding something irrelevant to hair?

They are talking about links in sigs, not in messages. You link to your YouTube site in your sig, then you are advertising because those sites are often designed to make money. The same with a "blog." In your sig, you are using this board to recruit customers.

I've been trying to open links in the Wig Challenge Thread and none of them are opening up for me. Is it my computer or because they are banned?

ETA: I'm now able to view the links that are in the Wig Challenge Thread.

That kind of stinks. I don't have one myself, but I love being able to check out people's personal blogs and stuff from their sig. Oh well.

I never realized that (hair) bloggers were "sellers and vendors". What exactly are they soliciting and what do they need "customers" for when they're not offering a service, they're simply blogging. Please elaborate. The fact of the matter is that there's only so much that you can put in a post; so when a fellow LHCF member (like myself) starts a hair blog, I'm very proud to share it with my family, not to solicitate it for personal gain, but rather to share my progress and so forth. As a matter of fact, most hair bloggers give full credit and recommendation to LHCF because they're thankful for what they've learned here. That brings customers to you. I'm just a bit disappointed because I think this rule is banning something very broad yet important to many; I love members' links and blogs; it's 2010, blogs are a common means of communication and not some solicited product. Oh well. Thanks for the update. :)

I'm not sure. I have a blog (sort of) and I did set it up so that if visitors click my links I get ... well i'm not sure because I have never gotten anything and don't do my blog seriously.

Google adsense? Maybe someone who has actually gotten a check from google can answer.

I did set my blog up to make a profit though. If the capabilities are there, why not use it?

Maybe the person who wrote the announcement can explain better.

how do you know if your siggy pic is too big? i think mine is an ok size but if it is too big will some one tell you before you are banned from having a siggy?

Did you post this because you almost made the banned?
I don't have a blog or website. Maybe one day I will.

I wish I knew. I took my beloved Prince siggy down because I thought I would make the banned. :crying3:

you will know....when you have to scrollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll just to get to what a person haqs to say.

this year, my focus is to NOT post youtube links and any other link since Nikos says this has been an ongoing problem year end and year out.
So youtube links and any other links are out except fotki.

I remember posts in the past entitled "Blog Roll Calls" or "Favorite sites for hair care products" or "favorite fashion blogs" and so forth...were all those people banned? I'm a bit confused, can a Moderator please chime in or PM me...I read the rules and i never saw anything about blog restrictions. I saw NO SOLICITING.

Maybe those members can post links in their profiles. I didn't seen any rules against it.

lol... ppl use their fotki's for advertising purposes too. so that ONLY fotki rule is laughable. i wonder bout folks counters in their siggies. counting the days til their kid is born or how long they've transitioned or how many pounds they've lost.

LOL I didn't even think about Fotki as Advertising! They do charge money! :lachen:

Well, No one came back to clarify, so I guess We have to just go by the announcement, which I still don't understand! I hope We at least get a warning if We do something wrong, before given the "Boot"! :perplexed

for example, we've been drooling over reniece's reveal so lets check out her fotki: http://members.fotki.com/Reniece20/about/

what have we there? a link to her business website and photos of her business as a weave specialist.

so i LOL @ this 'advertising' business. Mods got folks running scared. There will always be a way for folks to skirt the system. So, folks blog, post pix, advertise their businesses and sell stuff all on Fotki.

Ok, I'm done. I don't have a blog or a fotki and I think my kitty in my siggy is an appropriate size. I just wonder how the decision for fotki to remain the only okay link was made.
