I am like that, too. I did do some spring cleaning a few weeks ago and wiped out a LOT of crap, but now my problem is the number of different shampoos and conditioners, I own. I only really use my NTM and Kenra Platinum and Keraphix, but I have sets from about 5 or 6 different brands. :ohwell:

I am an oil and conditioner junkie. I have so many oils its ridiculous--almond, carrot, vitamin e, olive, 3 different coconut oils, vatika, amla, rosemary, peppermint, thyme, cedarwood--if I look there is probably more:lol: I just like to switch it up to break up the monotony. And conditioners--lord theres the moisturizing ones and the protein based ones...the cheapie ones and the not so cheapie ones...sigh...

Soooo true! :lachen: I was thinking of ways to streamline my products but I ended up throwing away nothing:lol: I kept thinking-- what do I use when I have a porosity problem...what do I use when my hair desperately needs protein...what do I use when I need this really slicked down or I want to jazz up my color....what do I use when its humid and these curls are about to take a beating:lol: Regular Shampoo, conditioner, and oil can't help all that:lol: Throwing away the "specialty products" is gonna be hard...specially when they helped me get out of my shoulderlength growing rut. Lawd, I need help.:ohwell: :lachen:

SEE! To me those are perfectly good excuses to keep them. Maybe just sticking to the basics regularly and using the other products every now and then will be okay.

(except my NTM Daily Deep Conditioner - I can't live w/o that one!) It will take months!

Same here. I'm really learning that less is more, but since I've spent SO much money on different shampoos and conditioners, I'm going to use EVERYTHING I currently have until its all gone. This has been a good thing actually, because I'm motivated to really stick to my wash schedule so I can rid myself of so many products. :)

I agree that keeping it simple helps a lot, but for me I don't think I could just shampoo, condition, oil and go...not that simple...at least for me! I know that I must deep condition once a week, I must do an aphogee treatment every other month I must do a clarifying shampoo, I must do reconstructor treatments. And with the oils, I just don't think they are heavy enough for my hair, I'm texturized and I need products that define curls and cuts naps...maybe I haven't found that dream oil that does it all yet. And for when I'm stretching I need products such as elasta's mango butter or cantu's strengthening cream to define my NG and cut down on the frizzies...sorry but I yet to find an oil that does that for me. And when I do my braidouts etc I need a heavy butter to weigh down the hair so that my hair isn't all puffy and crazy. By no means am I knocking this method...if it works for you stick with it, but I just don't think that it would work for me.

It is a sure thing that we all need to deep condition our hair, but I was referring to everyday styling. I know what you mean about the butters, they keep out hair tamed. It's sad how difficult it is for people with tightly curled hair. I wish there was a product line that was simple and that worked.

sometimes less, I only use shampoo now to clarify I just stick to CW, deep con treats, MTG w/oils and scurl-that's it.

This sounds like a great routine. I also only do CO. And when I need to clarify I use Dr. Bronner's Almond Castile Soap.

Hi Corbins! My regimen is simple -- I just stick with what works for my hair. My hairdresser shampoos/conditions and I just usually maintain with 2 products daily and that's it. At my 8 wk. mark I use a cream to help smooth my edges, but I don't layer a lot of products b/c my hair doesn't need that to thrive...It also saves me a lot of money...

My list is kinda long but I don't use them everyday. I buy in bulk so I don't have to worry about anything for a long time. This lasts me for months!!!! I'm such a pj!!!

2 shampoos J/A/S/O/N jojoba and sea kelp

4 leave-ins Giovanni direct leave in and vitafusion and Lacio Lacio and Surge

Too many conditioners (mostly dominican)......I like making conditoner cocktails for DC and CW.

3 shea butters....scented and unscented. Oyin whipped pudding

Coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil blend, and hair food oil blend.....I add these to my relaxer/texturizer and conditioners

J/A/S/O/N hairspray and gel

All these items are used on an as needed basis.

I would have to agree but for some reason, oils sometimes works on my hair and sometimes it doesn't. So I have to use shampoo, conditioner, and S CURL!!! :D

No more S-Curl... has made my hair too soft and mushy... I gave the last little bit left in my bottle to my brother. He loves it!

I have some Hot Six Oil which I will use on my hair with my Jason Naturals Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner. :yep: My hair has always done great with less products!

I agree because my hair has been flourishing with only 2 shampoos (1 clarify, 1 moisturize), a deep conditioner, a leave in, and oil.

Was it the TLHS site with those ladies with past knee length hair??? I saw where it said all your hair needs is shampoo, condition, and oil and I read the whole entire site! LOL! me too. oil doesn't moisturize but it can seal in the moisture.

I am so glad I found this thread. I agree with many of you on here who say less is more. When I first discovered this site about three months ago, I was using all kinds of different products because I was new and didnt know any better. I guess I was jumping on the bandwagon. But in reality, if you can achieve it with just shampoo, conditioner, and oil, the better off our hair will be (in most cases) Less is best and Im going to stop using all these different products on my hair. It will be better off and then I wont get nearly as much product buildup.

I totally agree with this thread. I noticed that my rollersets come out much better and my hair is growing nicely because I just use my leave-in conditoner to set . Between washings I just lightly add oil daily and I am GOOD for my next wash. I've finally realized that setting lotions, gels and hairsprays , etc, just pile on the hair and are not beneficial.

You are right on the money with this one. I use Peppermint soap, Miss Keys and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. Then I let it air dry and put it in a bun. My hair grew out like crazy!!

Plus, I haven't been taking my vitamins because I ran out but I was consistent with washing my hair.

I don't really use anything on my hair other than shampoo, conditioner, and Oil. Well I do use a serum with heat styling, but that's it.

Now if we are talking about just one measly conditioner, than I can't be down with that.

I do need a good protein deep conditioner, a good moisturizing deep conditioner and my leave-in (which I also use for daily moisture). I also like having a nice detangling cream rinse conditioner to use when needed.

Being relaxed, having a concentrated protein treatment in my supply closet is very important. These all make me feel good about my entire arsenal.

Now, I don't think it is necessary to buy every single product out here. I feel good just sticking with same ones.

I have found that lots of women with waistlength hair just keep it simple with shampoo conditioner and oil. I think I am about to get over my PJ-ism, I can literally feel it going away...

Unfortunately (for me), the simple routine of shampoo, conditioner, and oil is alot more complicated than it sounds! I have always kept it to these basics...I always use WGO and conditioner as my leave in. (i do apply a daily UBH moisturizer though.) anyways, the reason why it gets more complicated is because we need different shampoos and conditioners for different purposes. For instance, it's good to have a moisturizing poo and a clarifying poo. Then for conditioners it's good to have a 5minute moisturizing and protein conditioner. then you also need a deep cond moisturinging conditioner as well as a heavy protein conditioner. So this is where my problem lies!!!! I may only own poos, conds and oils... but the fact is that I own millions of them....

I agree too. Before I stumbled across this board, I kept it simple by using shampoo, conditioner, detangler, two pomades and oil because that's what my basic kit Verifen Complex included and my hair thrived. My hair stylist would use a regular shampoo to clarify my hair once in a while.

Now I'm a semi-product junkie as a result of stumbling across this board, but I've been doing good since this year. The discussion board threads are overwhelming compared to my regimen, and I knew beforehand how to maintain my hair. I was really impressed with the results of those members who belong to this hair care board. Their products are less expensive, but they get the same results that I get with more expensive products.

I'm going to use all the products that aren't really necessary and streamline my hair care supplies. The extra money could be used on something else even though the other products don't cost much.

My hair's condition and my hair stress level have done a 360 since I have minimized.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I do own other stuff, but I really only shampoo, deep conditioner and use a concoction of silicon oils and hemp seed oil to blow dry and flatiron. It has taken some time, but I have my favorite shampoos and conditioner that I stick with, as well.

I have not been oiling my scalp since I wash every few days.

Easy as pie and my hair really feels and looks better since I stopped using my grease, gels, leave-ins, growth aids, weaves, braids, etc. A big weight has been lifted from my wallet, as well.
:)

I have noticed to that since I have been out of braids and just shampoo, condition, and let my hair airdry with lots, lots, and lots of moisturizer on it and sealing the ends with jojoba oil and black castor oil, it feels and looks more healthier. Briads I think was a big down fall for my hair. I loved the convience of them, but I think they were the reason my hair was not growing and unhealthy at the same time.

I completely agree with this statement, BUT with this you also need to have a good diet in order for this simple regimen to work well, you also need to limit styling and heat. B4 LCHF I was a simple shampoo moisturizing condish and oil girl, and my hair easily got to mid-back. Then I became a product junkie.. :sekret:Tell myself I am just “searching” for the right products ext…. but seriously once I tame this PJ izm I think all I really need is:
Moisturizing shampoo
Moisturizing conditioner
Nice oil blend
And then for occasional use (ACV, light protein, Deep condish, Frizz tamer, heat protectant)
My issue is I like to use heat every now and then and the rules still apply but then u got serums ext, I also like to be able to tame my frizzes with a mousse or something to that effect…. Thus the product buildup thus the need to ACV….right now I am having too much fun to jus throw in my towel and stick to one of everything…. For one I like smelling my hair too much and different things cause different smells…I guess it may never end for me unless I get tired of playing with + smelling my hair and then I will easily revert back to the plain ol one of everything. I guess my point is my hair is still growing regardless so the only thing I am hurting is my pockets.

My hair has been doing well w/o braids and extensions. I think I retain more lengtn with braids, but my hair is just not as healthy and I get off track as far has hair care is concerned. I get so used to braids that when I am out of them I don't always know what to do, or feel like doing it.

I do now use a leave in. I think it was a matter of finding one that I like. Even still, my leave in of choice is a cone free, mineral oil free moisturizer.

I'm always going to be a stockpiling PJ, but I totally agree with this sentiment. I think a lot of times when people see the phrase "PJ", they assume the person has a super detailed regimen and they use a bunch of products all at once.

Yes, I have 50-11 products, but for my day to day routine, I just co wash with one or two conditioners and then use my grease.

I agree. I have lots of products, too. Personally I pick my conditioner for the day like I do my outfits or pick which perfume I will wear that day. But, my regimen is pretty much simple and never changes.

Personally I cannot just use oil, though. I do need my creamy moisturizer to maintain moisture.

I am going to give this theory a go. I am going to just wash and condition with aveda damage remedy and moisturize with my nourish and shine; Thats it. I am going to do this for one month and see if it makes a difference. Some times it is better to just keep it simple.
