I just have relaxed my hair with Affirm normal strength. Not a lot of hair came out and I relaxed the head in two parts each 15 minutes yet my hair is extremely dull and flat and appears about 50% thinner than it actually is. Has anyone experienced this after relaxing when nothing seems to give hair volume or curl and hair lies flat. Does this mean Affirm is too strong for my hair???

Darn I spent $40 on a 4lbs tub of regular. Do you think if I leave it on for less time that will help

What is your hair type. I've experienced underprocessing with affirm

Dasha did you use all of the products that go with Affirm? (Protecto, Gentle Assurance, Affirm conditioners like POsitive Link or 5 in 1, the neutralizing shampoo) Affirm is really good if you use all of the products with the relaxer. IMO

Don't wash before 72 hours. If your hair is still in this condition (after shampoo), it's likely to be overprocessed. If you choose to use it again, you may want to mix some Jojoba oil in it to weaken it some. This is something you will have to experiment with to get the right mix for you.

That sounds like you only needed a mild relaxer or less time with the perm on your hair. I use the Affirm regular and it takes about 10 minutes to do my whole head. I would say see if you can sell your regular and try to buy the mild.

When you do your relaxer do you smooth the whole head or do you just apply and wash it out.

I don't do my relaxer myself. But my stylist starts in the middle of my head (where i always have the most growth) and works down. Then she does the front part of my hair. She smooths as she goes. But she moves quick. When all of my head is covered, she will smooth a little bit to make sure I am ready. I would say it takes no more than 10 minutes, 12 tops. The key is to move quick around my hair.
