Please be careful where you purchase your hair products. I work in an accounting office where I get to meet a very diverse range of people. I had one client comment on how nice my hair was and she proceeded to ask me where I get my products and of course I told her the BSS. Well, she proceeded to tell me that I should be very leary of where I purchase my hair products because a lot of them are being couterfeited!!! According to her (she works in the Cosmetology field and is not a hair stylist), their office has been flooded with complaints against certain products (especially Affirm/Keracare and Motions). The complaints ranged from dryness, brittleness, but the number one complaint was that their hair was falling out. Well, when several of them brought the products they were using in, her office had them tested against authentic items purchased directly from the company that originally made them. And to their dismay, the ingredients did not match all!! So, now she has to go to these BSS and make sure they are "Authorized Retailers" of these products. I really believe her, because if they can counterfeit handbags, surely they can make hair products. She told me that to be on the safe side, I should get my products from Sally's or get someone who has a cosmetology license to actual order them for me. So, ladies please be careful because everyone here really cares about the condition of their hair and I wouldn't want anyone to lose any of the progress that they have made. Sorry this is so long, I just had to let you guys know.

ETA: She also said Trade Secret was okay to purchase from

I'm sure it's true, that's why on the back of my Nexxus products it says "Satifaction guaranteed on all GENUINE Nexxus products purchased at hairstyling salons..." B4 next was sold, I always bought them from salon stores, I don't know what is going to happen when they go retail.:ohwell:

Darn that is serious... I doubt I have purchased any counterfeits... I inspect my products throughly before leaving store... I need the cleanisest looing bottle. that looks like it just came out of packaging...

just curious when you say "the bss" do you mean asian bss or do you mean all bss including sally's? I think I read awhile ago that asian bss had alot of counterfeits that were not marked as so. Also, thanks for the info.

I mean asian bss stores. Or it could be any neighborhood BSS owned by anyone, because you never know where they purchase their products. They should be an "Authorized Retailer" of salon products.

From the original poster:

I know this is true. I find it truly sad that they are counterfeiting really cheap products like Motions etc. I not a bbs or product junkie. I usually go to the Sally's or the drugstore for products.

Thanks for the tip. I don't fool with Asian beauty supply stores because they always act like you wanna steal something-especially if you've never shopped there before. There is only one Asian BSS around here that I would consider going to in order to purchase a hard to find product. They are very easy going there. I usually buy my stuff from Sally's, Wal-mart or Ebay.

Thanks for the info. That is scarey. I also heard about the Asian owned BSS's.
I'm glad that I sick with Sally's, CVS/Riteaid mostly. I get my Dominican stuff elsewhere.

I've heard this before. Buying Nexxus or other salon brands in the supermarket or walmart/walgreens is just as risky. Those companies guarantee quality ONLY if sold in a professional, licensed salon. If you buy it anywhere else it could be "counterfit, old or tampered with" (saw this on the back of my Paul Mitchell detangler).

Thanks for the info, I have purchased Nexxus from JC Penny and the wal-mart salon but now, wal-mart is advertising that they will begin selling it in the stores without salons. I think I will continue purchasing it from JC Penny

This is so true...when I was an "Aveda Junkie", I had to be careful to purchase only at the store or reputable salon b/c I got a bad batch :( before. Aveda's disclaimer is also......"only guaranteed when purchased through an authorized salon or store".

What about purchasing hair products from the company's official website? Is this possible?? I don't think I've ever seen a section to purchase Nexxus hair products on their website. But maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. :ohwell:

That explains why the exact same product will have a different written font size, style and different instructions especially in ABS stores:perplexed.

   You know.....this really angers me because we have already made these people rich and allowed them to sap our communities dry of economic opportunity. They are leeches and if they are doing this, that would prove how they feel about their own customers once and for all.

This is so true!!! As soon as I enter my local Asian beauty supply store they start making these funny noises with their throats:lachen:(clearing throat) :look: and I am not new, I am a very frequent customer and they still do it. At first I was like WTH is up with the noise, but now I just laugh in my mind and continue my shopping.

watch out for the hair also they are probably messing with that too
Yeah, I've been warned by several people, including some cousins who are licensed hairdressers, about weaving, braiding, and extension hair. There's a lady I know pretty good who used to work at the bss down the street from me. A few months ago she said she noticed more and more women having really bad reactions to some of the different hairs on the market. I told her that doesn't surprise me because Lord knows what chemicals these different hairs are being treated with.

Paul Mitchell made a commercial a few months back for this sole purpose. He basically said if you don't get it from a salon, it's fake... so I believe it!

You're right. I bought some KeraCare the 16 oz. And I swear it was different from the original 16 oz that I bought before. It smells almost the same though, but it works for my hair. I plan to stop buying expensive salon products like that from just anywhere myself because this is scary. I also have a huge bottle of Nexxus humectress that I bought off of ebay. It works great but I won't be doing that again.

That is scary! I use the Vitale relaxer for my hair and my daughter's. Sally's doesn't sell Vitale products! If the counterfiet is true, and I believe it is. Where would I purchase there products. The last time I relaxed my daughter's hair, it wasn't right. Her hair felt hard and it was a new jar of vitale.
