A tragic end end to my first weave

Two weeks ago I had my first weave installed with the intention of it being protective style. The stylist charged me $170 for what I know now was a raggedy weave job. It didn't look all that bad at the salon, but later on it became increasingly obvious to me that that I'd been jipped. I had bumps, lumps, and she left my edges out to the point where it was obvious I had a weave in due to the different textures. I'm relaxed and the remi goddess I used was extra silky.Anyway, before the first week was even out I had a track loosen and made an appointment for her to fix it. She cancelled and I didn't even get a chance to get back to her overpriced salon. Yesterday I began to wash it and the entire track loosened. I was already too through with the weave so I just decided to take it down.

I don't know what she thought she was doing, but it was a big mess underneath all that hair. The threads were all over the place and at looks like she actually glued a bundle of hair to the top of my head (Was that supposed to be some kind of bootleg closure?) and I tracks in all kinds of directions and sewn together. It took me 3 hours to get out and then I saturated my hair with a conditioner/oil mix and took down the braids. I had huge knots of hair coming out of my head. I did the best I could with detangling and hair was coming out all over the place. I did a protein treatment But the worst came when I deep conditioned.:ohwell: I used the ORS deep conditioner, and when I got ready to rinse...it was like I web. I just settled down on the floor and slowly untangled,

My hair is just weak and thin. I'm 10 weeks post and I'm not sure a relaxer is what it needs right now so I guess I'll be stretching further. I'm not really sure what to do to get my hair back.

Omg sweetie i'm so sorry this happened to you. You should back and try to get some of your money back.
I agree... yall a little too nice around here. It would been hell to pay if it was my hair but i am sorry that happened to you. That's awful. You will get you hair back don't worry.

That happened to me the ONE time I had a professional sew-in. Thankfully, a master stylist was able to cut it so that the lumps were not so noticeable. That's when I decided sew-ins were not for me.

I'm sure your hair will bounce back.

Wow so sorry to hear you first experience was terrible. You hair will get better, just takes some time. and I wouldnt relax either right at the moment

I had a horrible first experience as well so I know what you're going thru. However, I've got to be honest and say that you still should have went back to the salon and got your hair assessed by a manager, master stylist...somebody. Either way, I would have been getting my hair corrected by another stylist or my money back. I would have never left the salon if it wasn't what I wanted. I noticed you said it didn't look all that bad :look:.

Secondly, you probably should have detangled your hair first and put into sections before adding conditioner and oil. This can dbe a disaster for most people. Like I said, i really feel bad for you but at the same time...if you're going to get your hair done in a shop, you have to speak up about things.

No way I would have paid $170 for a weave that I only kept for 2 weeks :nono: I would have been all up and through that shop on her day to come in so she (and other customers) can see the mess she created. Good luck with your hair! I'm sure it will bounce back.

When I say it didn't look all that bad, I was just happy to have it done and swing it around. But as the days came, and everyone was like wtf and I looked around...I realized it was a mess. I fully planned on going back to the salon (she's usually the only person and the salon, it's small and she owns it.) I just didn't get a chance to. It would have probably been better but my hair was all wet when this started. A big big mess...I was not ready for it.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm wearing my first weave now. It's week 2, and there are some loose tracks. I just tightened them up myself today. It's an ok job in general, but next time I'm going to go to someone more experienced.

You'd think for $170, the stylist would be really experienced.

:bighug: That is so awful!!! I can understand why you just wanted that foolishness off and out of your head ASAP. I'm not the confrontational type to be in the shop arguing with someone like that, even if they DO deserve it. :ohwell: That's one reason I don't ever let anyone do my hair. I don't have the time or energy to deal with the self-advocacy needed.

As to getting your hair back in shape... you mentioned lots of hair coming out. Since she installed it so poorly, there is a good chance that you accidentally cut some of your hair taking the weave down... this will cause huge balls of hair to come out. :cry3:

When was your last protein treatment? If it's been a while you may want to do one and then DC before doing your next protective style. Depending on what suits your lifestyle best, I'd go with either Crown & Glory braids or a wig/half wig.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, OP. I think weaves can definitely be a tricky business because you have to trust that someone knows what they are doing. I know you will nurse your hair back to health, and if it's any consolation, you'll be surprised at how much progress you can make by PSing your own hair rather than relying on a weave. Best wishes to you; I know it will grow back soon. :-)

Sorry again for your bad experience OP. Don't let this deter you from researching a better stylist and getting another sew-in in the future.

I wish there was a way to report stylists that jack your hair up. :yep:

I am so sorry OP but I kinda understand you just wanting to get it out.

I also believe in people putting these 'stylists' on blast...just saying.

I called and left the stylist a message. I also went out and bought a half wig from the BSS until I order a few better ones online. I guess I'll be trying the half wig thing for a while. Thanks for the support and I guess I'll just try to take it a step at a time hoping it bounces back before I know it.
