A question for all CHI flat iron owners...

I've been meaning to ask this question since I got my Chi last week, but haven't had the time. I bought mine online on ebay and was wondering if you all had the same reaction to it as I did when I took it out of the box. I thought to myself "it sure as hell doesn't look like a 100.00+ flat iron" but then I thought to myself..."what is a 100.00+ iron supposed to look like?" So I thought I'd pose the ? here and get some feedback. Maybe I should describe mine to you, it's a 2" Chi turbo, mode GF1539. The iron itself is dark grey with these tacky red velour like things on it. The ceramic doesn't look anything like the plates I've seen on other irons. I think that may be because they were ceramic plated. Anyhow, what was your initial reaction to the product?

i actually tried the chi flat iron and i did not like it. i hate to tell u this after u have already purchased it, but i heard so many great things about it and when i tried it i did like the chi. it did feel like the plates were coated and it felt like the iron was pulling my hair. i bought the rusk flat iron, which i love. the plates are pure ceramic and u can actually pick the temp instead of a heat seating. i hope i helped.

Don't get me wrong, I've used it and I loved it. It's helped me achieve salon results at home, and I've never been able to do that before. All I'm saying is it doesn't look quite the way I expected it to.

i think the chi looks like most $100 flat irons. i work at ulta so i work with flat irons all day long. compared to other flat irons it looks quite expensive. most cheaper flat irons don't have fabric. the fabric is great because u can feel for the temp without getting burned. i'm glad u like it. the chi is very popular and we always sell out of it.

I bought my CHI Iron at a Salon in Columbus, OH and it sounds a little different from yours. Mine is black with gold plates. I don't have any fabric on it. I use the CHI Silk Infusion oil when I straighten my hair (I've used other oils too) and it made my hair really smooth and silky. I love my iron. It doesn't pull on my hair and it gets it straight and smooth in one swipe. I have used it on other people and they loved it too. But again, I think mine may be different since I don't have fabric on it.

Cat mine also sounds different than yours. mine is the chi turbo 1" thats red and black with gold plates. i also don't have any fabric on mine. let me just say WOW! i chould tell the difference between the chi and cheap ones. like Neen said it only takes one swipe to get my haie completely straight. it cuts down the time it takes to straighten. i would recommend this flat iron too everyone.

Mine is 1 inch black with the red velvet like fabric on it. I haven't used it that much but I haven't had any problem with it. I set my temp between 266 and 355 degrees, one swipe on my relaxed hair which is the difference I noticed in comparing it with my less expensive iron. I don't know over all if worth all that yet. The red temp. indicator light blinks all the time. I don't know if it has ever gone stopped blinking indicating it has reached the set temp.
