Hey ladies. First I want to start by saying that I have not had a relaxer in over 2 years and I have been 100% natural for over 1 year now. I love my hair and always wanted it natural since I was a teen but I am too embarresed to were my real hair . I've been wearing braids, wigs, and weaves for all these years and I want to just wear my real hair but I am afraid that I will not be accepted. My friends tell me to get a perm but I know what is best for my hair.
I need encouragement!!
OH sorry about the spelling. Im burnt out from work, school and the holidays

Girl look at my hair in my siggy! If i can walk out looking like this you can do it will better hair than me.

i know im not natural but im making steps to get there.....have you tried doing any styles at home on your hair or using any products since you have been natural for 2 years?? what about finding some idea styles from magazines/LHCF/books...just some suggestions...have you played with your texture to find out how your hair holds certain products and in what styles you look good with...

Good Luck to you...and I hope you find a way to discover the beauty of having natural hair..

what do you use in your hair ! It looks silky and shiny. I guess I haven't played around with a regime for my real hair yet. I love the fact that my hair in natural but I want it to look good .

right now i am using miss jessies cp and bc. Also I am shampooing w/ eluence.

Hi! When I first did the BC over the summer I was very nervous about wearing my hair out, for fear of what people would think. I hid under braids extensions for the first six weeks. I finally got sick of the braids, and just decided that I was going to love my hair no matter what and take the best care of it that I possibly can, and wear it out.

Taking the extensions out and finding what works for your hair is the hardest part (especially if you've been relaxed from childhood like me). BUT the only way to learn what products your hair likes, and what styles suit you is to just do it! Take the extensions out and just experiment, get some head wraps in case your styles don't come out great right away, and with practice you'll improve! Take a weekend when you have some time, or try it over the holidays. Invest in some ouchless bands for puffs, and cute accessories as well! Good luck! :)

Sounds like you got through the physical transition just great...but by wearing the weaves and braids and whatnot, you didn't get a chance to go through the mental/emotional transition. This includes taking time to get to know your hair, see your hair as it is, (re)build your confidence about your hair. I'm telling you what I know. And it's not easy to keep hearing "you need a perm". Those are not supportive words. Along with the other suggestions mentioned, maybe you can wear your hair out for when you do quick errands, just to build your confidence.

Baby steps are ok to start with...you'll get there!:)
