That's ok, Jen, that happens alot, I've done it to probably LOL.

Yeah, I told her about the neosporin but I also said she should have a professional look at it.

Anywayz, DeJuan since we already went OT

how are you wearing your hair now, since the Jerri Curl incident.

mindy, i think this was caused more by her scalp being really open from the washing than anything else. i would go to the dermatologist if you can. i really don't think she will go bald in that spot, but if she does lose the hair there it will be temporary.

i would definitely rub vitamin E oil on that spot in the meantime. it can be very healing. also, the Neosporin is a goo idea too. and i agree with the person that said not to let the stylist rewash it. i also think it would make matters worse. she should give her scalp a chance to heal before wetting it again.

Thanks Adrienne, esp for the reassurance about the bald spot.

That is very frightening.

Mindy, this happened to me too and whoa did it hurt! It will ooze for awhile then a scab will form. Neosporin which is an antibiotic ointment is a good choice along with the vitamin E. I don't think she will lose any hair but just don't try to comb it at this point because her hair will be attached to the scab

Let a few days pass...I dunno, maybe more til you wet/wash it again. Gently handle it and DO NOT PICK! This may sound crazy but let it kinda flake off on it's own. You don't wanna risk breaking any hair from picking.

HTH

Jeez, the stuff we go through with these relaxers....
mad.gif
When will they invent a relaxer that straightens the hair perfectly, doesn't burn the scalp or cause breakage???!!!!!

(Probably not in my lifetime!!!

Thanks, Honi, that did help.

She always says I'm psycho about this hair board and that i'm obsessed but see, she got a lot of helpful info... I emailed her some of these responses, maybe now she'll change her mind....

You have to be careful with it oozing! If it continues to ooze and/or more scalp skin breakdown or if it starts to smell I would take her to a Dr. immediately. Someone I know had this to happen and it was infected. I don't mean to scare you because some oozing is normal for minor relaxer burns so you need to keep an eye on it. Make sure that you have the area exposed to air without putting stress on hair in or around that area. And also note it for redness and for how hot the scalp is surrounding the burn. This is something else you want to assess to see if it is get better vs worst. More redness and hotter than nonburn areas=infection...HTH!

Mindymous I am so sorry that this happened to ypur daughter, you should take her o the dermatologist imediately

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree, take her to a dermatologist immediately preferably one that is versed on Black skin care. She could get permanent scarring from this that could destroy the follicles.

Hi Mindymouse. I agree with the other ladies. Have your daughter apply the neosporin to her scalp at least twice a day (morning and evening). This will assist in keeping the bacteria at bay while her scalp heals. If she ties her hair in a scarf at night, try to strategically maneuver around this area as the oozing will cause the scarf to stick to the burn and she will have a hard time getting it loose. In addition, she should put pure aloe vera gel on the burned area to speed up the healing process. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, her scalp will form a scab in the burned area. However, she must be patient. She must not pick at this area as it heals. This can cause her hair to break in this area because the hair must be pulled through the scab. Tell her the scab will separate on it's own and it will be easier to remove. HTH and I hope she gets better very soon!

I was going to recommend pure aloe vera gel too. Good luck Mindy...

[/ QUOTE ]

I was also going to recommend pure aloe vera gel. I went through something similar to this in Dec 1996. That was the last time I ever used a relaxer. Good Luck Mindymouse.

Mindymouse, I feel bad for ur daughter. I've never experienced "oozing", so I can't give any advice. My cousin did the same thing... washed the day before her scheduled touch up
whyme.gif
. Well anyway, I couldn't convince her to reschedule her hair appt, so I sorta take matters into my own hands... i called up her stylist & told that she (cousin) washed the day before. Her stylist DID NOT relax her
nono.gif
. I was shocked cuz this was a money hungry stylist too. But her scalp was saved THAT TIME. The silly girl pulled the same thing on her next touch up... well, i didn't know until after.... but anyway she recvd the touch up, burned severely & i won't mention the worst part. But she DEFINITELY learned a slap in the face lesson... the hard way.

Again, i'm sorry ur going through this with ur daughter

MindyMouse, this happened to me, maybe not as severe, but aloe vera juice or gel straight from the plant is wonderful! It's the raw natural gel or juice, not the processed type. I have poured it on my scalp, and it burned for a hot sec, but then i could feel the aloe pulling the pain out of the burn. You can get it at the health food store. God bless!

Thanks, guys.

Peachtree == Did she not belive you or what.

And Nissi , thanks for the aloe tip

Yeah, she believed me, but her comment was "I'll just take that chance".

Mindymouse, I just had a touchup today myself and received some chemical burns on my scalp (OUCH!), although not to the extent of your daughter's with the puss. However, the pain was great enough and lasted long enough for me to seek urgent medical care. The Registered Nurse informed me DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN OR ANY OILS ON THE BURNS BECAUSE THIS WILL MAKE THE BURNS WORSE!
frown.gif
She gave me the name of some topical medication for the burn: silvadene, which requires a physician's prescription, it's not available OTC. My insurance provides an on-call doctor, available during off-hours, who can call in the prescription at a 24-hour pharmacy. Perhaps your daughter also has this option available to her!

Needless to say, I'm now on the hunt for a new stylist (sigh), and my husband is demanding a refund from the salon

I didn't know it was bad to wash your hair the day before getting your hair relaxed

YIKKKKKKKES I think she already did it.

how did she get past you to relax less than 24 hours after washing and more importantly why didnt the stylist, who is supposed to be trained, do a consultation first and ask questions. the ones who do their job well will do a comprehensive check of the scalp and ask when u last washed the hair.

anyways, sorry it happened, it sounds real bad. remember if using essential oils to dilute it very well or the scalp will get even more irritated.

I don't believe that. I've used Neosporin on my scalp many times and it's never made it worse. If her burns are REALLY bad though, maybe it is best not to use it.

UPDATE

She found Neosporin that has Vitamin E in it and put that on yesterday and twice today she said the ooze stopped and it's begining to scab up.

She said to say thanks to everybody and that she'll never do that again...

I'll keep you posted as to any hairloss
