Ladies my daughter washed her hair Monday and got her hair relaxed the next day, I told her that would not be a good idea, but she went anyway.

Well she burned severely and when she woke up the next day (yesterday) she said her head was wet and there was "white stuff" in this one spot, she said the hair was crispy. I thought maybe they didnt rinse good in that spot and it was relaxer residue.

I told her to go back and show them, she went and the stylist said that her scalp was oozing and to come back TOMMORROW, (which is today) and she would re wash and condition - WTH !!! I think if I was a stylist I would have handled that as an emerengy.

Well this morning it's still oozing and I told her to call the doctor but she has'nt yet and a co-worker who used to be a hairdresser told her to apply Vitamin E to it, this also came to me earlier (thanks to Pebbles) I remember she suggested it when I had a burn, but... Oozing!!! ???

Has this ever happened to anyone, should she see a doctor immediately, she's crying and saying she might get a big bald spot.

Help ladies, suggestions PLEASE this is serious.

TIA

She definitely should have waited since she washed her hair so soon before. I've heard of people being burned with relaxers and saying that stuff was oozing out. I've recommended Neosporan (sp?) to them. It's an ointment. I'm sure vitamin e is good too. I'm not surprised that the hair stylist recommended a wash and condition. They don't know it all like the lovely ladies at the LHCF.

Yeah, I heard of Neosporin, I tell her that. So you think she'll be ok, No hair loss?

I burned before but nothing like that. I feel so sorry for my baby, I want to cry too.

I can't say whether she'll have no hair loss or not. I guess you'll just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully the ointment and/or vitamin e will give her scalp some relief.

Oh, God.....

This stuff is no joke, Look:

Skin Contact:
Sodium hydroxide is extremely corrosive and is capable of causing severe burns with deep ulceration and permanent scarring. It can penetrate to deeper layers of skin and corrosion will continue until removed. The severity of injury depends on the concentration of the solution and the duration of exposure. Burns may not be immediately painful; onset of pain may be delayed minutes to hours.
Several human studies and case reports describe the corrosive effects of sodium hydroxide. A 4% solution of sodium hydroxide, applied to a volunteer's arm for 15 to 180 minutes, caused damage which progressed from destruction of cells of the hard outer layer of the skin within 15 minutes to total destruction of all layers of the skin in 60 minutes.(6) Solutions as weak as 0.12% have damaged healthy skin within 1 hour.(5) Sodium hydroxide dissolved the hair and caused reversible baldness and scalp burns when a concentrated solution (pH = 13.5) dripped onto a worker's head and treatment was delayed for several hours.
...........
Well guys, then I guess we need your prayers, please say a short prayer that her hair will be ok.

This happened to me 3 days ago. But I washed my hair 4 days before the perm. I got burnt really bad. (thank God i'm not bald) There was a little bit of oozing but I put vaseline on it and it feels so much better. Not to mention it made the scab
barf.gif
come quicker. Tell her not to pick the scab and just keep reapplying vaseline. Oh yeah and don't wash the hair until it stops hurting. That will just open it more and make things worst. hth

I've had that happen a long time ago when I was going to a stylist that used to burn me all the time (yes that was when I was really young and didn't know, for the longest I thought that perms were supposed to burn).

Put neosporin on the burns and keep an eye on them. In about a week her head will probably scab up and you can lift the scabs off (I know it sounds nasty). Wash her hair after you do that cause you'll probably see a lot of flakes.

Thanks, Ms. Prettyeyes, I tell her not to let the stylist wash it.

I've washed my hair the day before having a relaxer done several times and I never had that happen to me (knock on wood), although it's not something that I regularly practice. I think that it is best to wait a few days after washing to have a touch up done. The vitamin E oil might help soothe her scalp, but I'd definitely see some kind of doctor or dermatologist to make sure there won't be any permanent damage. An oozing scalp sounds dangerous.

i burned my scalp from over use of s-curl perm plus i used a extra strength once i ended up with bald spots on the side some of them filled in but i can still see my scalp on the side a little but and it's kinda thin on both side. i've been perm free for almost 4 years still no complete regrowth even thought the doctors told me they don't see anything wrong wit my scalp and that it should grow back. it's taking a long time if it is growing back.

thanks for the post JenJen i've read about aromatherapy in this alternative cures book i have. This lady in this hair loss section was diagnosed with alopecia areata(complete scalp hair loss) she used aromatherapy in about 3 months she a complete head of baby hairs that later thicked and returned back to normal. I was thinking about using it myself for my sides but i dont have alopecia so i wasnt sure it would work for me

It's worth a try! I used it for a while but inconsistently. It was always super relaxing to massage my scalp with this and use the hot towel afterwards..I think it helped my nape area to start growing.

i dont like dermatologist they prescribe a bunch of junk that doesnt work but taking her to see if there isn't any permanent damage is a good idea

You know this is really disturbing how you have to be on these hair dresses about what the are doing to your hair because three moths ago I had a emergence interview with my school and needed an emergency hair do. my regular hair dresser was closed so i decided to go to the hair salon around my way. she relaxed my hair and gave me some tracks. because the tracks were in my hair I was unable to see my scalp. I took the tracks out about two weeks later and there was so much white stuff an my scalp and my hair was breaking badly.Right away I knew this heifer did not rince the relaxer properly out of my hair. You have to be on some of these so called professionals. She had a nerve asking me when she saw me again when am I comming back for a wash and set pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee
