I really want to acheive this. I have not been documenting my growth (as right now it has a mind of its own during this transition process)

How have you ladies acheived and maintained this growth? What were your Average Yearly Growth rates (AYGR)??

What were you regimens?

The average growth is a half inch per month so attaining 6 inches in one year is very possible. You'll have to be on top of your hair care game. Protective styling 90 percent of the time, moisturizing, less heat, and strengthening your hair with deep conditioning and protein when needed. I did 5 inches in one year(that starting pic below is not really where I started), but I was also trimming. I could have done 6, but I wanted my hair to be even and free from splits.

I have, you can see my pictures in my Fotki. I don't have my most recent pics from my October relaxer, but you can see my starting point up to July.

I managed to retain 6" in a year. I was on the 365 day challenge (Cathy Howse). My starting point was 18" (from hairline to ends and SL) in September 2006. Now I'm at 24+" (top of bra strap). Regular DCs w/heat and protein treatments if need be, protective styles most of the time and no trimming. It does help if you had a blunt cut prior to this then it's easy not to trim for a while. I guarantee you will retain 6" with this method if you are consistent. If your growth is more than mine (1/2") per month you can retain even more.

I grow on average about 8-10 inches per year. I take gnc ultranourishhair and wore mostly protective styles last year (except for about 3 months) I grew out basically all the hair on my head in my siggy pic in about 10 months.

ETA: I am currently about a half an inch from APL and it has been about 15 months. I will update my fotki hopefully tomorrow w/ pics.

i dont know how much i grow but i manage to retain about 7.8 - 8 inches per year through cowashing daily. it prevents tangles and keeps my hair moiturized. i do simple styles, nothing that pulls or strains my hair.

and just let my hair be and do its own thing :)

I think I have. If it isn't fully there, it almost is. When I tried on my inches shirt the other day, the longest pieces of my hair reached 6.5, the others were at 6 inches.:yep:

I think I am getting good growth. if you check my fotki, you can see my comparisons. But this is the first time I am going full blown natural, so I cant really tell my actual growth. I use no heat, take vits daily, cowash every other day, and protective style my hair. Alot of times I dont protective style my hair at night b4 i go to bed, is that bad? I wake up look like this :eek2:.

Yes, I do believe the 6 inches per year. I have gotten 5 inches thus far just from starting my hair journey in Jan of this year. I have 1 one inch left to grow in order to say that I officially gained 6 this year. But i hoping to get more this Dec.
the progress pics that i have taken make me a believer. If it wasn't for the pictures, i wouldn't have believed it myself.

Like the ladies have said before, the key to this retaining growth thing is protective styles and moisture of the ends, as well as healthy eating habits.
My hair is protected 99.95% of the time. Only on really special occasions, will i wear my hair down. Then i will feel uncomfortable with it down and put it back up again a few days later.
This may sound bizarre, but I don't want to see my own hair again after the end of this year until Dec 08. So after this year I won't really see my hair relaxed and flatironed out until Dec 08.
Hey, sometimes you have to take two steps back to go 3 steps forward.

I want BSL hair in 2008 and I'm successful, I will begin a maintenance regimen to increase health which will become an ongoing process as I intend on wearing my hair out and enjoying it!:yep:

i would love to retain 6 inches from now until this time next year.
although, i dont know if i exactly get .5 inches per month
i never really knew how much my hair grew
but i was definitely losing more hair than i wanted.

so, i think with the help of adding aphogee treatments every 6 weeks
along with my gentler more patient detangling and washing method

i'll be able to keep more hair on my head this time around.

we'll see how it goes?!!!! hooshaaaaaa

my main goal right now is strengthening my hair
and also being more patient with it

Great thread. I find the less I manipulate and hide my hair, the more likely I retain growth.

Have I gotten 6" per year - no. I'd love to have that formula. What I do get is about 4". As long as I retain it, I am making progress!

By the by, I take vitamins (including biotin and msm) and I do scalp massages, I exercise and eat healthy. But even with all that, I just can't get 6" a year. My crown grows ssoooo slow. I'll be 80 before it gets to APL!!!!

6" or more is definitely doable. I have been able to maintain my growth by doing protective style (when it was shorter I'd wear fingercurls for a week at a time), I make sure that when I brush or comb my hair, that it's wet and well-conditioned, also little or no heat (I may flat iron my hair once or twice a year). I can wear my hair loose during the day with no problem, but at night I make sure I braid or twist it, and I sleep on a satin pillow case.
