So I went to the salon and got my first Press. I used like 3 different heat protectants. I don't think I used enough. My Presser was heavy handed. I decided it was time to straighten because I wanted something different and I was getting tired of the single stranded knots.

I figured I would do all I could to guard against heat damage. However, if it occured I would not cut my hair off, but just wear styles to incoporate it into my everyday hair styling life. I now want length and that is my focus. I will probably get my hair straightened once a month. I saw my ends when they first straightened them and they were somewhat thin. That upset me and I know it was because of the state I wore it in and them always getting tangled etc...and having to cut off those single strand knots. I'm no longer cool with that at all. I figure that is why my length isn't as far along as most folks.

Anyways...I will NEVER NEVER go back to the relaxers. If I decide to wear my hair straightened most of the time I will become a Pressed Sista.

Here are the pictures

I don't have any recent nappy photos so here go the closes I could find.

I used all types of heat protectants and stuff.

SABINO (Mine), FANTASIA IC in the pink bottle (Mine), Lustra Silk (In a spray bottle, that was kind of burning, THEIRS), And than she used some type of spritz once she was putting the curls in and she used some spray from VONTE. I was trying to be nosey and read the bottles, but I couldn't get a good look. LOL!

What I liked about the shop was that they let me use my conditioner, my sabino, and my fantasia heat protectant. Next time I go I am going to bring my blow dryer, shampoo, and conditioner..plus my heat protectant stuff.

I went to this place off of 78th/Crenshaw. The woman who did my hair was the owner her name is Precious. I really liked her as a person. She is really nice, but kind of like TOUGH and Classy. I don't know how to explain it...Her hair was gorgeous and she is a fashionable person.

Like she is confident in her skills and about business, really nice, willing to let you use your products etc...The shop was clean and she was constantly sweeping and wiping down the counter tops with some type of cleaning spray. She doesn't like a messy shop.

She used a pressing comb and after she pressed one section she would go right behind that section with a flat iron. These were all marcel tools. She also used some type of pad that pull the hair straight as she was pressing.

One issue I have is anytime I start to do my own hair I start to sweat in my scalp alot. So it is hard to put heat to my hair because I get sweaty.

Now that is what pressed natural hair should look like: silky, shiny, bouncy, fluffy and beautiful! She did a great job!

Did you find someone yet? If not PM me. I am no longer in L.A but carla was the ONLY one I let touch my hair. She's in the valley though. I sent another LHCF member her way and they emailed me thanking me profusely. She's wonderful. However she comes to you, or you come to her (she's licensed but works from home) so if that's a problem, then she wouldn't be the one for you. She's going to school again, and doesn't want to have to pay for a booth, etc when she only works part time. She has all the professional tools needed at home though, and NEVER cancels appointments. She's my l.a gal. Every time I'm there she's the only one I will let touch my hair. I'm natural too BTW.
