3cish Locs...Advice

Hello All!

I have been doing my SO's hair for about 4ish years. When I first started, the locktician suggested honey wax. Well, after starting on my transitioning journey I read how much wax clogs and I noticed the build-up on the older locs. I have recently switched to using a mixture of oils and aloe vera gel. I finger latch and palm roll. He has 3cish BSL hair . Are there any other products that provide more hold w/o the build-up?

I have to admit it holds pretty well with the oils and definitely feels better but he works out regularly and I am hoping there is something better out there...

I have searched, but came up empty handed...

Oil Mix: small amount of shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil, evoo...
Shampoo: castille soap, evoo and purified water

I have no clue but I just wanted to say, have you ever tried to see if the nappturality hair board would have specific advice on locs? I believe they have a lot of loced ladies over there. There are only a couple here.

DH's stylist uses Sebastian Molding Mud.

I used to be over there. I guess I'll have to revisit for his hair!!! Thanks for the reminder!

Hello OP,

Bees Wax is evil when it comes to locs. Anything like petroleum jelly, shea butter or bee's wax stays in the loc because we don't comb or brush our hair. When I stopped using it, it took 2 years of repeat clarifying shampoo to get that mess out. I switched to using aloe vera gel, olive oil, palm rolled them and sat under the dryer. It works and I still use that mixture as a moisturizer even though I currently freeform.

Take care.

you could try afroveda loc hempseed/twist butter.
It is amazing, very nourishing and uses palm wax instead of beeswax
She also has a men haircare line.
Your SO locs are beautiful :)
