Hey I just wanted to know if some of you could answer my questions pls

Do you relax?
Which relaxer do you use?
Have you always used this?
If not why did you change?
Will you change relaxers again? Why?
What is your relaxer regimen?

thanks girls but before i make the commitment I want to make sure Im not going to regret it!

I'm 70% 3c and 30% 4a, so I thought that I'd answer.

Do you relax? Yes
Which relaxer do you use?Profectiv anti-damage no-lye
Have you always used this? No. Before that I used soft and beautiful Botanicals no-lye .
If not why did you change? I had a bad experience twice when rinsing out the relaxer. It would NOT rinse out of my hair! Not even the neutralizing shampoo could get it out.
Will you change relaxers again? Why? Right now I am pleased with my relaxer. It moreso texturizes my hair than makes it straight, but that is by choice. I have used it on my sister who is a 3b/3c and I have gotten her hair straight with it.
What is your relaxer regimen? I relax every 3 to 4 months.

I don't relax my hair anymore but did for many years and thought I would share.
I used to use all different kinds of relaxers with no adverse effects, including going back and forth between lye and no-lye. I gave myself touch ups every eight - ten weeks. I "changed" brands according to whatever was on sale when I needed a touch up. I would not change relaxers again, because I plan to continue maintaining my natural hair. Of course what works for one will not work for all, so I hope that helps. :)

Do you relax? yep! 7 years now

Which relaxer do you use? Elasta QP Sensitive - No Lye

Have you always used this? As far as i know! my hairdressers could've swapped for i know but on my customer card it always said the elasta sensitive (i wonder if it was lye..hmm if so then using no lye has made my hair better)

If not why did you change? X

Will you change relaxers again? Why? Nah, never, its a good relaxer and its very very mild. my hairs very glossy.

What is your relaxer regimen? every 14 -16 weeks

Do you relax? No, but I used to, for over a decade.

Which relaxer do you use?/Have you always used this?/If not why did you change?
When I started DIY I used Dark and Lovely no-lye Beautiful Beginnings (childrens) in regular strength, then later switched to Dark & Lovely (adults) no-lye in regular (they were basically the same). This got my hair straight enough to be styled straight fairly easily, minimal scalp burning but breakage due to my lack of skill (always overlapping).
After reading all the 'lye is better' hype I tried Motions lye in regular then Elasta QP in regular - worst relaxers ever. Elasta QP lye underprocessed my hair and irritated my scalp, whereas the Motions underprocessed my hair and didn't irritate my scalp. (I do remember trying Elasta QP no-lye though, and that was OK)

Will you change relaxers again? Why? I'll never relax again but if I did I would go back to Dark & Lovely no-lye, and use the 'put conditioner over already relaxed hair to prevent overlapping' trick.

What is your relaxer regimen? It used to be relax every 3 months, or as long as I could hold out.

I think Im a 3c/4a so Ill answer

Do you relax?
~not any more but I did for a LONG time

Which relaxer do you use?
~I was using affirm regilar strength

Have you always used this?
~No, when I was little my mom would use any and everything but my hair fell out and Affirm worked well

If not why did you change?
~see above

Will you change relaxers again? Why?
~Yes, Im transitioining. Although it was still thick relaxers thinned my hair out and made it way harder to retain length.

What is your relaxer regimen?
~I used to relax every 4-6 months. I would wash every 2 weeks or longer and wrap my hair every night with a good moisturizer (mainly jane carters nourish and shine) Minimal heat and alot of rollersets (I curled or flat ironed my hair maybe once a week). I also incorporated braids into the last bit of time before my next relaxer.

For all the extra stuff I had to go thru with a relaxer I go thru less stuff without one.

Do you relax? Not anymore.
Which relaxer do you use? I used Affirm Fiberguard to texturize twice last year.
Have you always used this? No. The only other time that I used a relaxer before was about 8-10 years ago. Then I used different box brands (lye perm usually Revlon) or went to a salon (don't know what they used) about 2x per year.
If not why did you change? I wanted to do something on my own at home and what I read on LHCF about Affirm was very reassuring and it sounded like a good mild relaxer for texturizing. All the relaxers I ever had before just tore my hair up.
Will you change relaxers again? Why? If I ever texturize or relax again I would use the Affirm.
What is your relaxer regimen? I texturized twice last year 12 weeks apart.

Do you relax? I tried about six months ago but my scalp started to burn immediately so I had to rinse out before I got through a small section of my hair.
Which relaxer do you use? vitale lye
Have you always used this? No
If not why did you change? I went natural and wanted to relax, but I'm back to natural again.
Will you change relaxers again? Why? No
What is your relaxer regimen? I do not relax. I took this as a sign that I should stay away from relaxers.

Thanks girls for answering...some useful info there...
i still dont know which way to go...i know i'll make my mind up within the next three weeks or so!! aarrgghh

thanks again

I take it that you are already natural. Well honestly, relaxers require work but once you establish a routine you will be fine. But you will not be able to do many of the things you do with natural hair. As you noticed many of the posters are transitioining  What is it about your natural hair that you want to change? What is it about relaxed hair that you are questioning?

OT: your hair look just like mine in your sig, even though irelax. if you airdry your texture will be pretty much the same i guess. unless your struggling to cope w/ natural hair

Hey yes ive been natural for over three years now and I guess i just want a change. my hair is in a bun all the time and i doubt that will change but i just wanna be able to wash and go if you know what i mean. lol
id love to be able to open my hair from having been in a bun all day (any day) and it be flowing and straight...superficial i know...but its what i want...lol
i love my hair but that is the ONLY issue i have with it, its easy to manage etc but i just ....oh i dont even know!

i think im going to iron my hair tomorrow and take pics and see how it looks...
that will maybe help me decide.
thanks

hey u are right i never even realised!
i had my hair ironed that day to go out.
i actually really like my hair but its thick and so i wear it in a bun ALL THE TIME!! and even if i get it straight id probably still wear it in a bun but i just want the choice of having it striaght at the end of the day without the heat i guess.
my routine is really simple so its not even a matter of coping i guess its just a purely superficial reason.

let me do my hair tomorrow and see how it goes...
thanks girlie.

Personally, while relaxed, I always blow-dried after washing, and it was still easily frizzed. Later on when I perfected my straightening technique I blow-dried and flat ironed. Even later on (after discovering hair boards) I realised I could get it 'kind-of straight' by just tying my hair up in a scarf overnight.

I just thought I'd warn you, that there is a possibility that you may be disappointed with the results of a relaxer.

Have you tried rollersets or wrap sets? I haven't, but I remember reading in a book that these could straighten out type 3 hair, and don't use direct heat.

What flat iron do you use? A different one, or a different technique or products might make straightening your hair easier.

Or there is always the 'embracing your curls' route...

Oh and make sure you post pics of when you do your hair tommorow ;)

ahh i get you now! yes, an easy wash and go is cool with a relaxer. whatever relaxer you choose, choose the mild version, your hair will relax beautifully if u decide to i believe.

Im with perfect doak on this one. There are so many other ways to get your hair straight. Relaxers are permanent and haev to be grown out. When I relaxed my hair my hair became even less managable. It frizzed even worse with the relaxer and maintianing a staright style was more than a task. If i were you Id nvest in a really good flat iron for those days but IM not you :) For real I think you shoudl think about this a bit more before concluding anything. Good luck :)

This is excatly what happened to me....great post beyondcute. I relaxed my hair in November after transitioning for a year. My hair is less managable and frizzed out when I tried to airdry!! It may have been the relaxer I used or the airdrying method but....I wish I hadn't done it!!!!!

I know where you are coming from. When my hair was relaxed I didn't have burns, breakage, hair fall, etc.
I TOTALLY understand wanting your hair straight without the heat.My hair air dries so much faster when relaxed.

It's hard though because you can relax say 2-3X a year with some damage or iron 10-12 a year with damage as well.

I am on the fence too so I understand where you are coming from.
