2017 Use Up The Stash Challenge

I made a "needed" purchase: Chi Total Protection leave-in and heat protectant.

I plan to straighten my hair once or twice a month going forward, so that I can more easily spiral rod set and twist-out my hair.

Guys, I'm thinking about doing a purge.

August 13th is that meet-and-swap natural hair meetup. I'm thinking about just packing a huge box and just dropping it off. What are your thoughts?

My thought process:
Since I'm deeply into hair growth at the moment and less about achieving a great wash and go (I've come to the realization that I will probably prefer a twist out or wash-and-ponytail over a wng until my hair is quite a bit longer), I really just want to almost exclusively use hair products containing ayurvedic ingredients, to be honest.

So, I could add to the 20-something products that are currently in the give-away box:
  1. Camille Rose Naturals Ginger Rinse (I muuuuuuuuch prefer my HairPrint Chelating Shampoo)
  2. The Mane Choice Biotin Gel
  3. Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Conditioner
  4. Curls Blueberry Bliss Hair Growth Oil
  5. Darcy's Botanicals Curling Cream Gel (does very little for my hair but may be great for someone else's)
  6. DevaCurl Arc Angel
  7. Curls Goddess Curls Botanical Gellee
  8. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (these are 2 tiny little sample tubes)
What are your thoughts? Do you think it is better to keep the stuff around to try to get the "money's worth" out of it, or do you think in my case it would be great to just off-load this stuff since I don't really want to use them?

It sounds like you're pretty solid in your decision to shift the focus of your hair regimen, so I would give away the items that don't fit into that regimen. But, I would probably keep 1-2 styling products just in case.

:yep:

Thanks for your thoughts/feedback, @trclemons.

Yeah. I think you might be right.

I'd still have much styling gel:
  • CRN Curl Maker,
  • Extreme Wetline [this tub is HUGE!],
  • Curl Crush Curl Prep (jar is large),
  • Kinky Curly Curling Custard (almost gone),
  • Alikay Brulee Custard (smells bad to me once diffused), and
  • Soultanicals Gelly (not a repurchase).
I can let go of the other stuff and let others explore them -- people who may really benefit from them. My main concern is using an ayurvedic cleanser and leave-in, which I have. For oil, I prefer the CurlyProverbz DIY Oil and broccoli seed oil.

I'm thinking about transitioning to the Natty Naturals (ayurvedic) line and just putting hair on the back burner so that I'm not trying to watch a pot boil as I care for my hair for growth. It's been SUPER fun, but I'm really, really, really ready to simplify now. :yep:

This is always my dilemma. I don't want to waste the money, but I don't want to waste the time/progress/pleasure using item I don't really want. Using the items or keeping them will probably be frustrating so I agree--give them away. I wish I had a natural hair group I could exchange with.

I can so relate. Thanks for the affirmation. I think you're right: These products should just go. At least black women will be getting them.

Finished up three products so far in August: The Mane Choice Egyptian Mask, The Mane Choice Ancient Egyptian Split Ends Treatment and Wetline Gel. The only one I would repurchase in the future is the Wetline Gel for installing Marley Twists. Not sure if I would use an expensive gel for an protective style like twists. I did put in Marlyey Twists for vacation and needed a leave in conditioner since I am 75% done with the Camille Naturals Curl Milk so I purchased the Maui Moisture Curl Quench Curl Smoothie to try out. I see myself adding a gel soon, either Camille Natural's Curl Maker or Uncle Funky Daughters' Curl Magic. I' super grateful for this challenge, my stash has came a long way, focusing on the red items for the rest of the month.

I would like to buy some stuff from you so I can try them out. Can you Pm what's in your box. I know I want to buy the CR ginger rinse and the mane choice gel

Good luck with your training @YvetteWithJoy.

So I've been pretty quiet lately and I noticed that I hadn't put any hair products in my empties bin in about 6 weeks. Well last night in the shower, my caddy almost fell on me. I took a quick inventory.

3 shampoos
9 rinse out conditioners
3 deep conditioners

All of these are open with 5-7 uses in them.

I need to just buckle down and move some stuff out.

Wow! :clapping: Nice! :yep:

How do you review the Natur-All DC? I'm not going to purchase, but it's funny to see it in print because I just watched a HL lady on YT teach about DCing, and the DC she used was Natur-All. Strange coincidence!

This was my first time using Natur-All and I absolutely love the way it feels on my hair. It felt so smooth and silky when I applied it to my hair.

It's normally $19, but I purchased it when they had a sale for $13 & free shipping. The downside is it was only 4 oz, so I will only treat my hair when they have a good sale.

And speaking of Natur-All....It looks like my hair will be getting another treat.

So far this month I have finished up my Camille Rose Curl Milk (possible repurchase) and added Camille Rose Curl Maker. I'm not a huge fan of the Maui Moisture Curl Quench Coconut Oil Smoothie so I doubt I'll repurchase it once I finish it.

-I used up a bottle of TJ Tea Tree Tingle conditioner and a jar of ECO JBCO/flaxseed gel.
-I donated SM Sacha Inchi shampoo and the other bottle of TJ Tea Tree Tingle conditioner to my three boys and husband.
-I purchased a bottle of Wet Line XTREME gel and received a free product from Sally's when I renewed my membership: Silk Elements Intense Conditioning Mayonnaise.
So I used up and gave away 4 items, and gained 2 items for August.

I used up my Eco Styler Krystal. I'm tossing the Camille Rose Honey Hydrate because it lease a weird, sticky film on my hair. I'm tossing my Shea Moisture Low Porosity Conditioner because the smell and difficulty getting it out the bottle annoys me, and it's almost done anyway.

I used up CRN Coconut Water Deep Penetrating Hair Treatment. It's still in my hair. I'll decide whether to reup based on today's results. It's a little expensive, IMO, though easily in the top 3 DCs I've ever used.

I purchased a sample of the Pure O.N.E. Beauty Red Palm Hibiscus Prepoo Mud Mask. Rationale: An ayurvedic prepoo would be great! (Hadn't thought of that!)
