2010 Lose Minimal/No Hair While Detangling Challenge

I would love to be apart of this challenge, and I also I have two questions

1. How often should I detangle?

2. How often should I use the Poroscity Control?

^^ This is what I want to know as well.

And don't we want our hair to shed as it normally would? Isn't that apart of the growth cycle (barring any illnesses)?

I'm satisfied with my results:

WOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!

How often do you detangle?

May I join this challenge too? I'm protective styling for the winter so when I take my hair down (or out) of the the PS I know I'll be dealing with a tangled mess.

Welcome! As for me, I detangle after every shampoo. I use porosity control as a final rinse for ONLY one minute after DC w/ heat. It works fine for me. :yep:

I HAVE to take part in this challenge. My mission has been and will continue to be able to figure out a way of detangling my hair without winding up with a tub/sink full of hair! Please count me in on this one! And if anyone can suggest a good detangler for unruly waves/curls, I am ALL EARS!!!!!!!:yep:

I washed today. I thought I did a good job of slowing down and detangling until I saw SVT's picture. :lachen: I think I lost less hair this time. I only comb on wash days so I lose more hair. I did check and it was 95% shed hairs and a few broken ones.

I guess I need to try pororsity control again. I tried it a few weeks ago and my hair felt terrrible after. I was using the bottle that says step one. Is that the right stuff?

Congrats on losing less hair this time. :yep: How long did you let the porosity control set on your hair? I learned from IDareT'sHair to use Roux Porosity Control for as a final rinse for only one minute then thoroughly rinse.

Can I join? I'm a lurker turned newbie and I need all the help I can get. Now I realize I lose waaayyy too much hair. Count me in!

Okay here's what I'm doing today:

  1. Pre-poo'd overnight with S-Curl, few drops of Garlic and Maha Bhringraj oils on my hair and BT on my scalp
  2. Shampoo with L'anza healing moisture Tamanu cream
  3. Apply Miss Key 10 en 1 & Matrix Biolage Cera-Repair protein conditioner for 30 mins, no heat
  4. DC with Shescentit Banana Brulee deep conditioner w/ heat for 45 mins
  5. Detangle in shower with lots of conditioner
  6. Final rinse with PM Supercharged for one minute
  7. Towel dry hair w/o disturbing position of detangled hair
  8. Apply Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea resructurizer & S-Curl from roots to tips and BT on my scalp
  9. Re-braid hair in 8 - 10 braids
  10. Airdry in braids
  11. Do braid out once dry
  12. Moisturize hair as needed with S-Curl.

I detangled when I applied the S-curl and oils last night so I'm hoping that I won't loose much hair today but I'm also dealing with seasonal shedding :ohwell:

I shampoo or cowash daily and I detangle each time. That minimal amount of shedding has only started happening recently. My challenge will be to keep doing and using what's working. :yep:

I didn't loose much today, YAY! This process has left my hair feeling strong and soft at the same time. I'll do this again on the weekend and compare that hair I loose then.

:hiya2: I'm 22 weeks post and this was my routine:

Clarify, porosity & protein treatment

  1. Prepoo moisture/dandruff/garlic powder for two hours
  2. Clarify with KeraCare 1st Lather, moisture shampoo with Silicon Mix
  3. Protein treatment with Silicon Mix Protein Pearl for 45 mins :love2:
  4. DC w/ Silicon Mix moisturizing conditioner for 1 hour, no heat
  5. Detangle in shower with lots of conditioner and running water
  6. Final rinse with Roux Porosity Control for one minute
  7. Towel dry w/o disturbing position of detangled hair
  8. Apply Chi Keratin Mist, Nexxus Humectin and EVOO
  9. Airdry in 5 braids, wear braidout
  10. Moisturize as needed w/ Nexxus Humectin and EVOO

Unfortunately I've noticed I lose far more hair when I rollerset and flat iron my roots but I LOVE that style. :nono::perplexed

This is how much hair I lost:

Below are my detangling efforts from last week (after not combing or washing for 2 weeks) and yesterday (after one week wash).
I think washing once a week it muh better.
Still alot of room for improvement, though! Tea rinsing helps. Coffee rinsing left too much residue!

today, I cowashed and I am pretty pleased with the amount of shedding I had. i am still aiming for less though.
i have been taking fish oil and gnc hns vit daily.

this is what i did this week:

-before i started, my hair has been in two braids for about a week. i have been puttiing coconut oil on these two braids everyday, 2x/day. i took these braids down and combed the ends. i shed a few strands at this time.

i used no pre poo of any sort. then i:

-cowashed with elasta qp intense fortifying hair cond...( this bottle is at least 2-3 years old)

-coated my hair in coconut oil while wet

-waited maybe 30 minutes before combing. i am learning my hair in more detail day by day and i think it is more prone to break when its very wet or very dry. so i tried to strike a happy medium by letting it air dry some before running a seamless comb through it. i sectioned my hair in roughly 4 sections and combed each out carefully..

hth someone. now for the pics.......

shed while dry coming ends before wash

after combing my hair. i have a small sectioned pinned up on one side.

@lolasmane, if I could only lose that amount after a 6wk stretch I would be happy. I expect to lose a certain amount since I only detangle every 6wks, I just don't want to see enough hair to make a wig with once I'm done.

For now I'm going to continue with the tea rinses 2x/wk

Ok I decided to continue my daily co-washing and I'm going to alternate my detangling methods..one day I'll only finger detangle; the next I'll use the wide tooth comb. Both methods will be done in the shower with tons of conditioner and under running water.

I am IN!!! I am trying to learn my hair as well so my strategy for right now will just be to try to wash, condition, detangle, dry and style in sections! I will do that along with my regular wash, 2 minute aphrogee protein, DC under steamer, and air or hooded drying...I will not blow or straighten more than once a month and I will assess progress in three months to see if I need to make any adjustments

OKay I'm 20 weeks post (yeah!) and I'm the DC Challenge so I'm DCing at least twice a week.

I'm going to focus on moisture this time.

Moisture Regimen:
  1. Prepoo wheat germ oil and Giovanni SAS
  2. Shampoo with L'ANZA Healing Moisture Tamanu creme
  3. DC with EQP DPR11 w/ heat for 20 mins
  4. Apply more conditioner and use water/fingers to lightly detangle in shower
  5. Towel dry w/o disturbing position of detangled hair
  6. Apply Aphogee Green Tea & Keratin Mist, DE HCO leave-in, S-curl and home made shea butter mix
  7. Airdry in five braids, then wear braidout
  8. Moisturize as needed with DE HCO leave-in, S-curl and home made shea butter mix

I did pretty good last night. First, I pre-poo'd with Brahmi oil, then I co-washed with Hello Hydration (all while my hair was in plaits). Talk about some good slip! Afterwards, I used some Africa's Best Kids Organics Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion. I was able to finger detangle, then put my hair in twists. I'm quite pleased.

I did this today and it has worked well. I didn't think that I'd be able to use my fingers to detangle but DPR11 gave me mad slip in the shower. I lost about the same amount of hair as last time. I'm not going to use my DE HCO leave-in daily as it has protein in it. I didn't even realize this until today! I've noticed some thin, broken hairs this time and that could be due to protein overload. I'm going to stick with using a little HH as my leave-in and s-curl for moisture and my home made shea butter/oil mix to seal. It is VERY cold and dry in Toronto right now so I need up my moisture! :yep:
