Medicinal Action and Uses---The whole herb is employed medicinally, in the fresh state. The action is diuretic, refrigerant and diaphoretic, and the juice extracted from the fresh plant is of use in urinary and kidney diseases.

I've been seeing it in quite a few things lately.
It's in my Hot 6 Oil, which is what prompted me to check it out.

I know it's in Crystal's Sheep Sorrell Ointment and Hot Six Oil. I think it's in Wonder 8 Oil...

I think it's an antioxidant/antiseptic ingredient. Like tea tree, vitamin e or neem.

Some people claim it can cure cancer if taken internally. I doubt it's harmful to the hair. I don't know if it helps, though.

Mindymouse, I found the answer.

Sheep Sorrell
A perennial, sheep sorrel is commonly found in meadows and grows up to three feet high, with small reddish flowers. It is the leaves and seeds of this herb that contain the active ingredients. Sheep sorrel provides strong immune support and is a good source of vitamin C. It has a long history of traditional use as an astringent, diuretic and laxative....

It just kinda makes you wonder,... I mean a direutic ? Refirgerant? I think the hair industry is gettin paid off using "herbal" stuff, regardless of it's ineffectiveness on hair.

Thanks NOnie. But what would a direutic have to do with your hair.?

Maybe they use it for its other properties (eg astringent) But why would you need say an astringent on your head? To reduce sebum release? To close the cuticle?

I found this info:

Sheep Sorrel is rich in vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, K, and E. Its minerals include significant levels of calcium, iron, magnesium, silicon, sulfur, zinc, manganese, iodine, and copper.

Yeah, thanks Jen.

I gather their talking taken internally here:

Sheep Sorrel: Like Burdock Root, this ingredient has been reported to aid in healing a wide variety of skin disorders as well as assisting in the destruction of tumors and easing some degenerative diseases.

Carotenoids, a component of Sheep Sorrel, are present at a concentration of approximately 8-12%. Beta-carotene (a strong antioxidant member of the carotenoids) is converted to Vitamin A in the liver. Vitamin A has been shown to strengthen the immune system by aiding production of white blood cells. White blood cells are what attack many of the body’s harmful intruders, including cancer.

Sheep Sorrel is rich in vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, K, and E. Its minerals include significant levels of calcium, iron, magnesium, silicon, sulfur, zinc, manganese, iodine, and copper.

Sheep Sorrel is also rich in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll increases oxygen content in blood. High blood oxygen content can increase the body’s action against many invasive conditions.

..................
I'm still confused though at the external use of the product does anyone have info on that?

If we know that other ingredients that are in sheep sorrel like sulfur, vitamins A,D, and E are used externally in products then we need to find out the purpose of those. That would probably answer your question. I know several "external" hair products that contain vitamins A, D, and E.

Oh, and sulfur too!!! Perhaps using sheep sorrel instead of all those ingredients individually saves the company some time and money or gives the customer additional benefits.
