When you talk about your hair not agreeing with something you've done with it.

The other day I thought I could get away with blow-drying my hair on the cool setting and still have ok results. But even though I only used it on my hair for a few minutes and not to completely dry my hair, I could see that it wasn't the best idea, and my hair felt awful. Maybe I should've had a blow dryer with a comb attachment or something...but anyway, after not dealing with my own hair for so many years, it just felt different actually learning what feels good and what doesn't.

Which leads me to another question about drying my hair. Has it been determined that next to air-drying, using a hooded dryer is still safe for your hair? I'd be using it 1-2 times per week, with a heat protectant of course.

People would call that indirect heat and would say it's cool. But then hooded dryers can still get hot. I'm prone to dry scalp and that would not be good for me at all.

I've been using hooded dryers, but I never sit under it with completely naked hair, and I rollerset it too. I also keep mine on low most of the time. I did have to stop using it once I got to 8 or 9 weeks post because it would dry out my new growth too much. It hasn't hurt my relaxed hair thus far, so...

I do want to try a steamer though, to be honest. People are saying that's much better than the hood dryer.

My hair didn't really like the blow dryer either. I did it on cool too, and my hair didn't feel the same as it feels under the hood dryer with rollers. It was a little straw-like, even with the same leave-ins and a heat protectant. Air drying leaves my hair feeling the same way as the blow dryer.

I read in Lisa Akbari's book "The Black Woman's Guide to Beautiful Hair: A Positive Approach to Managing any Hair Type and Style" to start off the hooded dryer (when rollersetting) on High for about 15-20 min then switch to med. You can adjust the time depending on how long you will be under the dryer. I tried this and preferred this to just keeping the dryer on high for the entire time. My scalp did not get dry and my hair still dried on time give or take a few minutes

Why would you be using a heat protectant?

did you use and product when blowdrying on cool? I usually find that if you use some moisturizer my hair comes out soft during this process! I use a leave-in like HE LTR and some coconut oil and blow dry on a cool setting using tension only.

I only use a comb attachment if I plan to straighten... When I blowdry or even air dry "naked" hair.... My hair is not a happy camper

I just used heat protectant, which may be the issue. I need to add moisture. I'm so sad about how my hair looks!

I co-washed yesterday and let my hair air dry and it still feels awful! I don't think I'm using enough moisture in my regimen.

That comb attachment may also be something I need to look into whenever I use a blow-dryer, but I may leave that to the pros and only use the hooded dryer for my at-home treatments.

Thanks for the tip!

I thought I needed to use a heat protectant every time I used heat, whether it was cool or hot. I'm a newbie so I have no clue lol
