I Just Paid $200 to Look a HAM

JaneLane for $200 this is just plain unacceptable and where I come from these are not called Micros? I dunno maybe the terminology is diff in NY. Over here Micros are literally Micro i.e. a few strands of hair - the way they do them in Africa. Also for these size plaits for $200 she should have braided all the way to the ends. WTH was she doing to 7 hours? Honestly you wanna drop some of these Jokers in the middle of market in Lagos and see if they think they can get way with this standard ??? They would starve I tell you.

Anyway, as another poster said go back and get her to re-do it. I would go back to the shop all sweetness and light PEAK time when all the other customers will be there, that way she can't wriggle her way out of it. Then when you finished, let her have it and never go back.

Also I think what could have happened is that when you pressed your hair it appeared straight and so the lazy arse felt that she could get away with not braiding down to the ends bc your hair appeared straight and appeared to blend. However after the press wore off and your hair became puffy it became really clear what she had done.

oh-em-gee.. the thought of going back and sitting in there for another four hours or so just kills me! but .. there's no way i can walk around looking like this, so i guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

i just took some pics ... please hold your laughter until you leave the thread.

thanks for your suggestions, though - i'm going back first thing in the morning!

The braider did state that she would charge an additional $20 to braid all the way down to the ends of your natural hair. You did not feel it was necessary..........

I don't know why everyone is getting all upset. The braider told you she would not braid to the end unless you paid her 20 additional dollars.

You get what you pay for and in this case what you don't.

AND YOU BET NOT COME BACK HOME UNTILL YOU WOOP HER A$$, IF YOU DONT WOOP HER A$$, WE GONNA WOOP YOURS!!

just playing lol, but yall remember when ya mom said that too you when another girl hit you? lol i do.

OMG!!!:lachen::lachen::lachen:You almost made me spit out my food!:lachen:

OP where do you live? My braider here in NY never charged me that much and they braid all the way down my (then) between SL/APL hair. I'm now at the length where they want to charge $200 because my hair (now APL) is so long. It takes hours so I respect that and have moved on to weaves.

YOUR hair is no where the length for them to charge $200 (I don't care if hair and washing was included) and NOT braid all of your hair. That trying to get $20 extra was game. Please stop making excuses for her. As a "professional" she knew where your hair ended even pressed it was not the same texture as the braiding hair. Go get your money back or see if that other poster can lend you her husband to sit in the shop and make them do what you asked for (I can't remember the thread - the stylist did something she didn't like and he made her take it out and redo in an hour). Don't give her another dime. Say thank you with a smile and NEVER set foot in there again. I have a wonderful shop here you can go to & I'm sure others can give recommendations depending on where you live.

I'm upset because for her length of hair $200 was already overpriced. To ask for an additional $20 to braid all the way down is straight nerve. That's like going to salon for wash and curl and then when your head is wet saying btw if you want to use our rollers you have to pay an extra $10.

I hate bad shysty stylists ruining it for others. I can braid my own hair but it takes days. For $160 I get 2 people and it can still takes them 7 hours. For OP, even if they braided all the way down the first time I'd haul her back to the store for some $$ back.

First of all, I am not upset. I am simply entitled to my opinion. After all, what would this forum be without our opinions...

The OP paid $200 and she got a botched job regardless of if she paid for it to be braided to the end or not. No self-respecting braider should ever allow a stylist to leave with their hair like that. The braids are larger than they should be, and they are obviously not worth the $200 she paid.

She, obviously, didn't get what she paid for, because what she got isn't worth $200. I have 4a/4b hair and I was natural just 2 years ago when I got micros. They were small, neat and not braided to the end AND my natural un-straightened hair was blended much better than this and I paid $120 including the hair!

Normally, I'd agree with you, but this is different. OP had a TWA...is it really that hard to braid down the to end of a TWA?! The braiders that I've been to braid down further than that, automatically. It's once your hair gets past SL that they may start talking some "you have to pay extra to finish", because they can't cut the hair in half anymore and they end up using more packets. But even with the extra, you aren't looking at more than $120-$135.
$200?! For your lazy behind to not even braid down to the end of a TWA?!

Are you from the same state as the OP? Because usually things cost different amounts, especially services in different regions of the country.

In any case, the braider stated that if she did not pay the additional 20 dollars, she would not braid to the end. She did not braid to the end. That is not a shocker.

I was not talking about the $200 dollars with the phrase "...get what you pay for". I do not believe my post stated that. I am talking about the extra 20 bucks to braid to the end.

That is why it is important to get referrals, and do your research before letting anyone even touch your hair.

I would have asked before hand what the $200 included. Whether it be hair or being braided to the ends. You negotiate these things before the service. I wasn't talking about the $200 dollars.

Regardless, I am sorry about this happening OP, but I hope that you learn from the experience. Luckily, you did not get a 5 inch "trim" or your hair relaxed root to tip.

Regardless of what state the OP lives in the braider did not do a good job. I never said that I lived in the same state. Regardless of if I paid $20 or $200 I expect a professional job when I am done. Obviously, different prices are charged in different regions, but quality is equal across the board. This is evident by the many posters who can obviously see that the braider DID NOT do a good job AND she did not have to braid the hair to the end to do that.

The bolded is true. It would have been in OP's best interests to ask her beforehand if she would braid to the end without the extra, considering her length.

But at the same time, I still have to give the braider side eye, because what she did was laziness and her business practices are shady. If you look at the braid, it's not so much further to get to the end of OP's hair. Just those few rotations down shouldn't have cost anything extra. And she knew that OP was natural...it goes without saying that left out hair could be problematic to blend when the braid hair is straight like that. Just by virtue of that alone, common sense dictates that if possible, the ends should be braided in. And it was definitely possible, she was just too lazy and greedy to do it.

Did you go?

yes, i went.

just to clarify, it wasn't this braider that told me it would be an extra $20 to braid all of my hair. it was another braider when i got zillions previously when i was relaxed and shoulder length. different braider. different shop. different state. i was just recounting the experience.. i didn't think i would have to worry about it this time, since my hair is so short. she didn't say anything, and neither did i. apparently, i should have.

but anyway...who cares? it doesn't matter. it's fixed. it looks fine. never again will i get micros.

thanks for your suggestions. now back to your regularly scheduled deep conditioning. hhg

Wonderful to hear, now make sure you take care of the nape and edges. You gotta good braid spray and you are keeping it covered at night so they won't rub up against you pillow? :yep:

I kept stalking this thread to see if you got it done. I was thinking about it in mi sleep, seriously. But I am so so so glad you got it done.

glad you got it fixed...now you can learn to do your own braids/kinky twists. once i saw the price of the kanekalon/human hair (whichever you prefer for the style you want) vs the price of getting my hair done by a "pro", i was more than happy to sit in front of my laptop and learn how to do those styles. now i can afford to rock different styles every month if i want to -- and i don't have to worry about jacking someone up for jacking up my hair.

Oh hell NO! You paid for a service that you did not receive. Bull and sh!t!!! Go back and demand a manager, point blank. Thats unacceptable! PERIOD!

Thank goodness you went back and fixed it..I'm glad almost all the ladies were able to offer encouraging words and support to you..it was a win win situation - you got your hair fixed and now you know how to approach another situation in the future. Good job :)

This same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago except I got tree braids that were too tight and in the back where they micro braid the nape area, about 2 inches of my hair was braided and the rest of the 8 inches was just hanging out. Looking a HAM with that staight a** hair. I was mad.

At first I was just going to deal with it and just say after that, I will never get braids but I couldn't take the tightness and I was mad my hair was hanging out in the back. By it being winter my hair would always be rubbing against my wool coat. And you know what that means, BREAKAGE!

So I went back and told her to take it out and give me my money. She said she had a 24 hour policy, LIE! But she could take it out for me and do something else. But then I begin thinking, this is the person who just messed my head up, why would I let her touch it again. So I left, went home and took them out myself and charged the $170 to the game.

I would go back to the salon first but if that fails, I would take it out. It would really defeat the purpose of having braids if you have to flat iron the ends. What growth you are gaining you could be loosing because of the heat. Also, how will you moisturize you braids on a consistent basis with out your hair reverting back.

I know it sucks, SORRY!

Good deal, OP. I was reading this on my BB at work today and was getting hot on your behalf. I'm really glad you went back and got it all resolved.

Get it now :yep: - thought it was the same braider.

I'm glad your hair is fixed and you are satisfied with the finished result! That's a lot of money (and time) spent to not be satisfied.

HHG

So glad you have resolved this problem!!!
BTW i didn't laugh at your situation or pictures, but the title of this thread made me LMAO!
