I Am So Blessed

I'm easy going.
im just asking becuase there are so many horror stories about women going in and coming out with so many inches lost.:whyme: Who do you trust to trim your hair? Are there any do-it-my-dam-selfers in here? :brainy:

No one touches my hair with scissors besides me. I've stuck to that for almost 8 years now, and I'm happy sticking to it, too.

I have yet to meet a stylist I trust to trim my hair now. Everyone one of them always took more than what I wanted before I started my haircare journey.

For now, I am dusting and trimming myself.

after my last set back from a SHS, I would never let ANYONE near me with scissors. I do all my trimming myself.

LOL- this post is right on time for me.

I have a trusted stylist right now with everything else *except* trims. She relaxes carefully and with proper protections in place, deep conditions, she limits the use of heat, does rollersets, and encourages my hair growth efforts. Her good qualities could go on and on.

However, when shears are involved...it gets scary. I think when her brain hears "trim" it translates it into "cut" EVERYTIME. I only have NL hair, so if she cuts inches off my head I'll be at ear length, but my 1/4 inch and her 1/4 inch are not the same. And she is notorious for cutting the same locks of hair over and over and over again.

I want to be a DIY'er but I'm a little chicken:ohwell:

So no...I won't be letting her do my "trims" in the future.

im happy to hear all of this, we dont need anymore horror stories AROUND HERE. and if we do go for trims, lets make sure we are watching!!!! we cant let stylist bully use into doing what they feel is right for OUR hair.

I want to get a professional cut, but every time I think about it, I imagine losing months of progress in one fell swoop...then I change my mind!

I have a trusted stylist that I allow to trim my hair. She usually will only dust my ends. If she has to cut more she tells me why and I can decide from there if it is okay. It is usually no more than an inch so I am pretty much okay with it.

after a hairdresser disaster i have no trust in hairdressers no more for trims....

im going to go to a new stylist she does my mothers hair and has done mine on a few occasions ....even though i have seen she only dust my mothers hair im still afraid to let her trim my hair so i think i will just do it myself

K.I.S.S traycee has a video about self dusting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3C0ndGIZpg

I've been avoiding trims for years (mostly b/c I'm scared). My last trim turned into a haircut. I've been contemplating becoming DIY for trims also, since I do everything else myself.

no. my hair lady really knows what she is doing. she used to always keep my hair lookin right. my mom never had to harrass her, and i never had to watch her in the mirror. i would get a trim whenever she suggested it.

i'm more scared to trim my own hair. i cut off alot tryin to make it even in nov 08 and was mad at myself. ♥

I have to say i'm sacared, i just moved and i don't know any styllist whatsoever ... so i don't really know :S

I'm scared of Stylists, I've never had a good experience when it came to a trim. I want to teach my SO to do my trims but first somebody needs to teach me. At the end of this year, I want to get a professional trim, only time will tell if that happens...The most I do now is dust, which is easy because I dust while my hair are in braids..

Me too! I'm downright terrified of my stylist. She can texlax and style the h:rolleyes: outta some hair but she insists on 'trimming' when she does my touch-ups, even if I dusted myself. I can't go to a syylist that will not listen to their client. :nono:

My stylist is very good about just "trimming". Even when I got my layers cut she still wanted a clear understanding of what I wanted and how much hair I actually wanted cut. She also only trims when I ask her to. I have been scalped before by a great stylist...so I completely understand how it feels.

I do everything myself. If I can't do it I try to learn; if I can't figure it out, it doesn't get done. The last time I went to a stylist was 2 years and I only went then because I wanted all my hair cut off. I didn't think I would be brave enough to chop it to less than an inch in one swoop myself. I figured I'd let them do what many of them seem to do best (chop off hair). Before that I can't even remember the last time I was in a salon. I don't trust them with scissors :nono:.

lol lol, dont be scared of her, its ok. you can learn to do it yourself, its reallly not hard at all. but if you do decide to go to a stylist make sure you watching her looking like this---->> :clubu:. -->have you seen this stylist? :missing:

I am not scared at the moment, but this may change since I am going after length now. My moto has always been cut it if it is dead or looks like it is about to die (I know could go way wrong with a scissor happy stylist). I am always of afraid of any dead end hindering my growth. Since I am at the point in my life were I want long hair again I am going to have to watch my stylist closely. I will only be visiting her four times this year once a quarter.

Funny you posted this because today I was at Sally's and I bought a fresh new pair of scissors. I spent 2 hours doing a section by section search and destroy. yes 2 hours! And then I brushed out my hair and cut less than 1/2 inch at the bottom to start giving myself a blunt cut.

Needless to say nobody touches my hair with scissors except ME

ETA: I used Feye's hair trimming instructions website to cut my hair http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim (link provided by a member here, but can't remember her name)

Very good to here BM:grin::grin:. lets all march to the beat of the same drum shall we?

yeah, I only trust my moms, she has never been a scissor happy stylist.

but times when she is lazy to cut my hair (all the time) i've resorted to other stylists and ended up with a bob cut lol!

I think they cut too much hair on purpose, its' not that darn difficult to cut hair even, cut a guide and follow it geesh.

from watching my moms I know how to trim but it's difficult to do on myself, but I did it anyway and it came out decent just the back is difficult but I got the hang of it, and i'm not a pro but guess what I didn't cut my hair into a darn bob (like this one freak I went to in 2006 :( i'm still mad about that).

I found one who can do it, but I had to pay near $50 for it. . . after I got the hum drum about it. I will only pay for it, when I really feel a need for it, but that's about it and I will watch like a hawk

I do everything myself...every stylist i went to loved to cut my hair...or my relaxer didn't come out right for the price i was paying :nono:

So i haven't gone to a stylist in 2 years :tantrum: and i'm proud!! :yep:
