Colours other than black

hey ladies,My little sisters planning on dying her natural hair but first we're doing a bit of research on which brand to use.
Her hairs quite dark brown/nearly black and in good condition so we don't want to wreck it.
she wants it a reddish brown colour.

What have you used and got good results with?
(i've read enough bad experiences so i'm looking for possitives LOL)

Does she want semi permanent or permanent?

Semi-permanent I had a very nice color with Clairol's Beautiful Collection (available through Beauty Supply Stores). Didn't last very long, but I didn't do the warm dryer part for 10 minutes either. I used Rosewood Brown.

Permanent, I'd stick with the colors geared towards women of color. They were less harsh to me. Softsheen-Carson's Hi-Rez was the only dye that gave me the vivid red I wanted. But they have an amber twist color that's not as bold.

Semi perm is more healthier than perm color for whatever brand chosen and in some cases demi is better than the semi and perm but may be harder to get access to if not a stylist. Please post of her results we would love to see final results. Just dont mix 2 different brands of color as they are each usually have a different chemical makeup regardless of how close the color look to match.

If your sis is natural, semi permanent probably won't show up as well. Clariol Textures and Tones works well and is readily available. Many naturals and relaxed heads have used it here with good results.

Robert Craig has a great line, I've been using it for years. It mixes easily, you just shake it up, it doesn't smell, & the color lasts well. Ok...here we go.
Been dying the hair since 1995.......bleaching and dying.
I have a tendency to not like the color I originally get with the bleaching, so I dye it 3-4 times again...all in the same day. I condition like mad, so that's my only saving grace. To date. my favorites are L'oreal (can't remember which linbe, but it comes with it's own 30 vol developer). Also, if she just wasnts a mild lift and lightening, trying a Luminize. That will lift her 1-4 shades. As her hair lightens, it will pass therough the color that she's looking for. A semi-perm will just anger her. If you're going to do it, do it!
However, and I cringe as I say this, I do not believe in hair salons, but for her first time around, I would suggest she see a professional and observe what they do. The most important thing is to condition before and a really good one afterwards. I personally use a clear cellophane by Sebastian after my bleach/color. Or even better a apHogee treatment.
SHe really want's to have the hair in great condition before because the more damaged the hair, the more porous, the less even the color.
Try Roux porosity if she is really worried about evenness, but the color she's looking for is dark enought that you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
And finally, if she really wants to treat her hair before a color/ try the Ojon treatment GREATER THAN 5 DAYS BEFORE SHE COLORS!!! I would prefer at least 10 days.
Really preps the hair.
Even after bleaching and dying my hair, when I flat iron it it feels like silk.

If she is looking for reddish/brownish, have you considered henna? It takes a lot more work, but it's sooo much better for your hair health. Take a look at www.hennaforhair.com. They pretty much all the info on henna.
