You know I was thinking today it takes so long to go from SL to APL for most people. Yet APL to BSL seems to come kind of fast for most people and so does BSL to Mid Back. I know thats because the distance between APL and BSL is shorter than SL and APL (for most). Well, this got me to thinking...What if we came up with a new name for the distance half way between SL and APL? Something like Mid Upper Back Length :lachen:. Or anything else my hair sisters may want to call it. That way you feel like you have accomplished a goal as you are at that mid way point between SL and APL. Just a thought... Maybe I am crazy.

That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea...I wouldn't mind claiming mid upper back length lol

cute idea! but all i can see is confusion as to where everyone's mid upper back length would be.

I can see how some might be confused. All I can think of is using a measurement t shirt or measuring tape as this length may be different on everyone.

Thanks ladies for responding :) I just want everyone to stay motivated getting over the longest hurdle.

I think its a great idea! SL to APL takes the longest for most people so and inbetween length would help you stay motivated. You have my vote.

Ok how about mid-shoulder? (RED) the middle of the shoulder muscle seems to be in between SL and APL (BLACK)

You are so not crazy, it is true. I am athletically build and my huge mile stone will be APL and once I reach it, and BSL is not so far down the line.

Half way between SL and APL is CBL. Collarbone length. Collarbone as in your clavicle.. the bones that protrude in the front of your chest.

I immediately thought of that marker, but most people forget about it or do not know it exists. It's not included on the pic provided by HaleeJ. On that pic it seems as though SL and CBL are one and the same.

I was just gonna post this, most people dont use the CBL measurement but i do. Either one is fine though, they're both basically the same, MSL or CBL. I guess its just that your collarbone is something thats not moving so its a more accurate marker to use. It looks the same place as SL on the pic, but the pic isn't accurate, if u measure from your shoulder to the bottom of your collarbone (right where the 2 meet) you'll see its definitely not level with SL.

Yeah that picture is misleading because most people claim SL when the hair touches the top of the shoulders which is a couple of inches above the collar bone. Also the collarbone is drawn a bit too high up on that model.

I don't see anyone on here waiting until CBL to claim SL.

Precisely! :grin::yep::yep:

I can definitely see the need. But there are no real body landmarks to use. I'm lucky, I have a tattoo in area I can use.

I use CBL. I guess I thought y'all meant body landmarks on the back. Yeah CBL fits the need perfectly.

You're right it is! :yep:CBL fits too. And its a more easily identifiable point on the body. I thought of MSL cause I figured I'd stick to measurements taken from the back. Although the pic I had has the meausurments from the front :. I couldn't find a nice one without it being a muscle man posing or a little boy

I Love this! MSL is the bomb! Ya'll think I can claim it?

I think so :yep:

CBL works just fine! althought its not a real length IMO I think ladies can use the clavical to judge between SL and APL

honsestly I would hate to see 50-11 MSL and collarbone length threads....this is LONG hair care forum and when you reach APL thats when your hair first appears to be longer and the rest of the length follows with proper technique and care.

and waist based on the diagram is off (waist the narrowest part of the upper torso) which is slightly above where it is now, maybe waist then belly button then hips because that is a WAY far stretch and could possibly get discouraging for some who have a large gap between the two, I myself have a high waist line and low wide hips so, even though it isn't my goal to have long hair to my hips it would take a long time to get there and could be discouraging if I was.

:)

Just a note and not to be funny but what about women with bigger boobs that kinda hang low!? that would confuse me? I just use my shoulder blades for BSB

I like the idea of MSL it stops you from saying I am between SL and APL
sounds like SLAPL I am SLAPL lol!:lachen:sounds like porrage.

Slap length. That sounds violent. I can't properly measure APL in the back (I'm not that flexible) so when I bring it to the front that's the length it is even though alot of the other hairs that I measure is APL. WSL always confused me because it's so far away and MBL seems to go on forever. I always thought wsl is the part where your back dips in but I'm wrong it seems. Would be nice for those girls to have a halfway point too.
