 i'm so sad. i thought i was gonna pop in GNC and buy some coconut oil for bout 5 dollas. that stuff was $14! good lawd. if this stuff don't work i'm gonna be pissed. ♥

My hair is very protein sensitive, but my hair likes coconut oil.

My hair loves oils and conditioners that penetrate, but will have a fit with protein. Dunno why...

It's the only oil that I can use on my hair any kind of way and my hair never objects to it. I've used other oils (like unrefined avocado oil and castor oil) and I have to use them in certain ways in order for them to make my hair feel decent. But I can put coconut oil in my hair wet or dry and it makes it feel good. I know other oils have great benefits as well, but my hair just seems to love coconut oil for some reason.

My hair is JUST like this! My hair gets very protein sensitive. I have to make sure that most of my products don't have protein in them. So far the only thing that I use right now that contains protein is Giovanni SAS conditioner, and my hair doesn't mind that too much.

On a weird note, though, my hair hates olive oil and I don't think it's too fond of castor oil. I'm still experimenting with the castor oil, though.

I purchased coconut oil in Sept 09 to use on my dd hair (all natural 4b cotton textured). I originally purchased it to use in a shea butter mix. I purchased the Nutiva Organic Extra virgin CO. mixed w/shea butter keeps her hair moisturized.

I tried it this past week on her hair after flat ironing/rollersetting her hair. I put it on at night put on her satin bonnet. The next morning her hair was very dry. Using CO alone, did not result in moisture rich hair.

I will just continue to use it mixed with shea butter for her twists.

When I was transitioning and natural, my hair HATED coconut oil. Made my hair straight up dry and crunchy. It acts like protein for me. But now that I'm relaxed my hair appreciates a good dollop of protein so I use it as a 'very mild protein' pre-shampoo treatment or sometimes I'll mix it with my DCs or apply some as a sealant if my hair feels over-moisturized (rare). I find it protects my previously relaxed ends better than other oils/vaseline when I do touch ups.

Okay ladies, please don't stone me but I'm UBER unclear about the boards BELOVED Coconut oil.
Month after Month, Post after Post, I've witnessed all of the raves of how everyone seems to be in love with it.

I just don't get it.

Can someone please explain to me what exactly I should be expecting from this Miracle Salve? :lachen:

coconut oil penetrates the hair. so by the time she woke up the oil was probably gone. also when i was relaxed and my hair was worn straight everyday i used coconut oil as a sealant, not a moisturizer alone. try usuaing a moisturizer then coconut oil.
now that im natural i like the shea butter coconut oil mix too:lick:. its very moisturizing and im sure it wont be too heavy even in the summer weather.

I love it too. I love scooping it out of the jar and just putting it in my hair for my WnG's in the summer perfect. I keep two jars one for my body and the other for my hair.

It sits on top of my hair. But on DD's hair it's nice and soft. Her hair soaks it up! Castor oil is my oil of choice. it seems like coconut oil just made my hair had and crunchy. :nono:

Love it, works for me both hair and skin. Unlike extra virgin olive oil which just sits on my hair, unless its mix with butters or other good pentrative oil

everything doesn't work the same for everyone. i use coconut oil but in my opinion my hair LOVES olive oil. i put some in my hair this past weekend and my hair sighed! so stick to what works for u.

I like it b/c it doesn't leave build up, and my hair looks shiny and healthy. I haven't been using it long, but when I moisturize at night, I put a little coco oil in my hands, run it through my hair, and in the morning, my hair is soft and shiny.

HOWEVER..lol...when I went out in the cold this morning, my soft hair got HARD as hell..I remember hearing some ladies say that coco oil will freeze and chunk up in their hair. I didn't see any chunks, but the hardness didn't go away until I was back in a warm place lol
