Hi Ladies,

I found this coconut oil in my neighborhood and I freaking love it. It melts in your hand and smells freaking delicious like an icy. My hair is like uber shiny and soft as silk as a result. I have my twistout updo hairstyle the next day after sealing with god-send of a product and sleeping with my 2-strand twists.

I know everyone has their preference but honestly, I love this 3 dollar product and I would visit your local Botanica to try it out. :)

Princess, your hair looks blingingly beautiful. You bought it from one of those saints in the windows Botanica stores???????

BROOKLYN STAND UP!!

Thank you! I went to the Botanica in my neighborhood and they have their oils behind the counter and they had everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry oil everyone on here talks about. That is the 3 dollar jar but they had a 5 dollar jar. I'm going back!

Where exactly did you buy it? where is botanica?

Hey Sharifeh, I live in the Bronx and a lot of spanish neighborhoods throughout the city and around the country have Botanicas or Santeria stores (a place to buy items for religous practices). They specialize in candles, rosarys, crucifixes, things like that. Apparently they have a section of oils. I was kind of scared when I first entered because I always heard stories about witchcraft and crap like that. Anyway, it wasnt even like that. I entered, spoke to the woman in spanish and was told that coconut oil is great for the hair.

My hair has never felt this silky in my life.

Is this your first time using coconut oil?

Dang, I wish I could get that stuff in over here! I just started using another brand of coconut oil this week (vitamin shoppe) for the first time and it has really made my hair shiny, way less frizzy, and it feels much stronger  I'm excited to see the results over time.

I love lhgf because i probably wouldn't have tried it w/o all the good recommendations. PrincessLinzz, your length is my goal, its very beautiful.

Ohhhhhemmmmmgeeeeeeee!!!! I have the same exact one! I got mines out of Pathmark and I am on my second jar. I use it nightly, now that I have braids and it works very well with keep my scalp and hair moisturized. I also use Mega Tek and I use castor oil around my edges. This coconut oil is excellent though!

You're awesome! Great, now I have a backup plan if the lady stops stocking the shelves. I will check Pathmark! I also did a search and someone said Rite Aid sells it. Good to know.

Don't have that brand, but coconut oil is the truth for soft hair and incredible shine! I use it on my daughter nightly before bagging.

Look at that magnificent shine!!!

Thanks Mz. Shug. Um I actually tasted it because it smelled so good. Gross I KNOW! But I couldn't resist. :perplexed

That's not gross at all! Coconut oil is used as an internal supplement. Helps with yeast overgrowth, strengthens immune system, lowers bad cholesterol and some say it helps with weight loss :yep:

So keep eating it!

Your hair looks so pretty! I live in brooklyn. Which botanica did you find this at? I would love to pay only $3 for this instead of the $8 I pay at Whole foods.

how do you guys store coconut oil? do you put it in the fridge?. I notice the jar I have (Nutiva-purchased from vitacost.com) gives my daughter's hair a sour smell when I put it on. her hair doesnt get the shine every one talks about, I think it might be becuz I dont use enough, I like her hair to shine but dont want the greasy feeling when touching it...

you shouldn't have this issue shoediva. Nutiva is a really decent product. Coconut oil does not go rancid, and can be keep like other oils - at room temp. There are other brands that you can use. Different nuts come from different countries. I like the oil from the company Tropical Traditions, or from the Indian store.

I was thinking the same thing, being that it was oil it could be kept at room tempature. I use in my shea butter mix. Thx

That's the coconut oil I had been using for a while !!! I unfortunately ran out, and started using an oil my mom gave me... yeah, the stuff she gave me was coconut scented MINERAL OIL! :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: I have since purchased Spectrum brand organic coconut oil and love it. Will keep my eye for the Antillean though...

Your shine is heavenly. I may have to check Pathmark or Riteaid...the Santeria store in my neighborhood scares me.:look:

Thanks so much, OP!

I am just curious....does anyone consider coconut oil to be a butter since it goes solid like shea butter does? Maybe that's why it is so moisturizing, because in actuality, it's a butter and not just an oil like olive oil is?? Not trying to start anything...just curious...
