Hi Ladies,

How are you covering your grays? Please share products and frequency of use. Looking for something that won't dry my hair out.

Thanks!

Good post. I have no idea. I dye my hair every 12-16 months. The hair is dyed for maybe a month. I haven't had any luck with long lasting products.

Henna works for me. I use it whenever I see a significant amount of grays. I just got done w/ my henna and indigo session. Just use a moisturizing dc after b/c henna is drying.

I'm not doing anything to cover my grays. People have been asking me what I'm going to do with them, but I actually like them. My gray hair is bothering other people more it seems. I have a gray streak in the front and some in my temples, but I like it. I've earned every single one of these gray hairs!!!
I had my stint with hair dye, and it was okay at first but eventually my hair got damaged and broke off. I don't think I will do the hair color thing again.
Recently I have noticed some beautiful women with longer length gray/white hair and it is stunning. I'm trying to go that route.

i was/am using a rinse. no ammonia, no peroxide, no damge. clairol professional advanced gray solution

I do a two step with henna and indigo for jet black hair.

It was drying the first couple of times I did it, but the last time I rinsed with shampoo instead of conditioner and I had excellent results and surprisingly moisturized hair.

It's important to deep condition after.

Exactly. I do a 2 step Henna/Indigo Process. Total and Absolute Grey Coverage.

I've Never Had a Problem With Dryness at all.

Here is what I do: I start out by Co-Washing with Something extremely Moisturizing. Apply Henna. Rinse out with either V05 Moisture Milks or Suave Tropical Coconut.

Then I apply the Indigo. Same Rinse Out. And then I DC with Something Moisturizing either under my Steamer or Heat Cap for about an hour.
I may do this every 8-10 weeks or so.:yep:

I haven't done anything to mine either. I like it but my husband doesn't:ohwell:. I plan to be one of those women with butt length gray hair and a trophy wife to DH or, if he really hates it, to another man.:yep:

Not a thing! My grays are sprinkled along my hairline and temples. I thought about using a rinse...:look:

I henna about every 8 weeks. Sometimes, like if I have an event, I will just touch up my temple area.

So, does the Henna/Indigo process take a long time? I've used henna before just for the thickening benefits but stopped because it was hours of my time. If you use it to cover gray, does it also take a long time? How long?

I've done too many things to the streak of gray that grows in my bang area. But I'm going to try the henna/indigo thing this week. If it works well I'll prob redo every 8 weeks or so. When its time for a retouch and I wear my hair pulled back, I brush a little mascara on to cover it.

Nothing! I love my grays! I earned each and every one of them.

But to answer the OP - since I'm relaxed, I worry about putting other harsh chemicals on my hair that may negatively interact with the relaxer. At this point, I'm just not worried about covering them.

I commend you ladies who embrace the gray...I'm not ready to do it though. As I look out upon my future, I can't think of when I might want to do it. However, I know of some BEAUTIFUL women with BEAUTIFUL silver hair. Maybe in about 20 years I'll be ready.

I noticed gray hairs this past summer (a week or 2 after I turned 24 :look:).
I hennaed my hair like 2 weeks ago and the grays are bright red :perplexed: so I'm going to do a black henna/indigo treatment next weekend when I have the time.

I use Clairol Natural Instincts. It's a semi-permanent so it contains peroxide but no ammonia. I retouch every 6 weeks and doesn't dry my hair out. The peroxide makes it last longer than a rinse. I wash my hair about 3x/week because I go to the gym, and I can say that the color does last. Hope this helps.

I called myself dealing with my grays by using henna... Now my grays are ORANGE! I've been trying to figure out a way to turn them darker without the use of indigo but haven't found a solution yet.

I've done two henna/indigo treatment and it done absolutely nothing to cover my gray beside turn it orange.

Henna with amla..............Weekly initially for 3 or 4 weeks to ensure proper coverage. Then monthly to cover new growth. It never washes out or fades on my hair. My hair is dark brown and the gray bits just looks slghtly lighter- like higlights. If I wanted it darker then I would use henna with indigo. You need to do a few treatments and let it buil up and then it will cover the greys eventually. I much prefer this to other dyes as it is totally natural with no adverse effects and it does not wash out. Best thing for me -ever!

I hated that orange look! I tried indigo but the smell would make me gag so I just touch up with a demi color monthly. I dislike double processing but grey is not it for me:look:

I dye my hair jet black once a month. I can't use a rinse because I co-wash too often and it wouldn't last. Henna/Indigo process took too long for me. I have dryness, but I heavily moisturize and I've had no lost in curl pattern.

I've read on more than on site that coconut oil helps to keep hair from greying has anyone tried it?
