Okay ladies, please don't stone me but I'm UBER unclear about the boards BELOVED Coconut oil.
Month after Month, Post after Post, I've witnessed all of the raves of how everyone seems to be in love with it.

I just don't get it.

Can someone please explain to me what exactly I should be expecting from this Miracle Salve? :lachen:

I like it because it's lightweight, adds shine and (after several uses) makes for very soft hair. I love it on my skin and hair. It's just like water...I can't use enuff of it.

well, it penetrates the hair better than any other oil and slows down the loss of protein. so even if you dont feel anything, its working. try using it before you shampoo and add it along with honey to your deep conditioners. during the summer i love to use it everyday but now that its cold and it has solidified i only use it before shampooing or only on my scalp. its amazing for my hair. was amazing when i was relaxed and its still amazing now that im natural.

Coconut oil provides unbelievable shine and some moisture to the hair.
It can also be mixed with many things such as shea butter, other oils, and even in some peoples henna mix. You can add it to your DC to kick it up a notch.

You can use it on wet or dry hair and it doesn't leave the hair feeling greasy or weighed down.

It can be a nuisance to people who are protein sensitive.
As always stated on here, everything isn't for everybody.

I don't think people claim that it's doing miracles, lol.

It gives shine and softness. It conditions very well. Doesn't build up at all. It completely sinks into my hair and skin also.

LOL!! You know how it is... what works for us may not be working for your hair at all. As a matter of fact I've noticed ladies with finer strands of hair don't seem to need or tolerate oil like the rest of us:ohwell:. For me, my hair was parched when I joined this forum so the coconut oil has helped me to seal moisture in and has been an integral part of restoring the proper moisture balance overall for my hair.

I LOVE coconut oil. I didn't discover it until I became fully natural, and it really keeps my hair moisturized all day and I use it for my scalp when its itchy. I also like to mix it with shea butter when I do my weekly twists.

Girrrrrlllll when I got that extra virgin coconut oil from GNC for the 1st time, the moment I used it, I realized why its always heralded. It will make you never have to buy another shine serum ever again the shine it produces is ridiculous AND it moisturizes your hair without the danger of reversion which is PERFECT for me as a natural when I wanna maintain my presses.

Another awesome aspect to it is that it leaves your hair weightless and bouncy.

EVCO is the TRUTH.

I  coconut oil, it makes my hair so shiny and soft, and it never builds up, because it sinks into my strands. If I could only choose one oil, this would be it. I use it on my skin as well

the coconut oil from GNC really is the best. the texture is silkier than any other i have tried and that includes the spectrum brand. i just love love love the GNC brand emerald lab or something like that. and the smell is amazing.

I personally have tried to use this product many many times to no avail, my hair simply doesn’t like it and always feels crispy after using it. My hair much prefers avocado oil :look:.

Coconut oil is a great oil (it provides unbelievable shine & softens skin like nobody's business.). However, if your hair acts funny when it has too much protein, then coconut oil may make your hair slightly hard.

I cannot use coconut oil alone as a moisturizer or sealant for my hair at all. My hair always feels nice when it's wet, but it gets crunchy once it dries. I have to use coconut oil on my hair w/ other ingredients that are fairly moisturizing.

Avocado oil is really becoming one of my favorites. I've been adding a thin coat of it on top of the Aphogee 2-min before I go under the heating cap & so far, so good. It seems to be the only penetrative oil that doesn't make my hair crispy once it dries.

I gotta admit, my shine serums (we used to be TIGHT like PB & J) are now collecting dust. I just smooth a *tiny* bit of coconut oil over my hair after styling, and the shine is bling-tastic. And it feels good that its healthy, conditioned shine, and not "illusion" shine like a serum would give.

I've never been big into oils, because I gotta have "swang" and volume. But if used sparingly, coconut oil conditions my hair without weighing it down.

Oh yeah, and it really sinks into my scalp without buildup! :yep:

Isn't it though? I LOVE the way it melts in my hands literally, I LOVE the fact that its fully organic to point that its edible and it really has that true coconut smell. I'm pleased as punch with this brand:yep:

All I can say to this is WORD. I used to be all about my shine serums but the EVCO is ideal because you know your hair is getting multiple benefits from a natural product rather then just being coated for the sake of shine and nothing else.

Same here!!! I tell ya its the greatest.

It add a lot of shine without being greasy. I can honestly use straight coconut oil after a wash and my hair will be fine.

Not a miracle worker but its darn near close!

I use coconut oil, and dh also has a small container with coconut oil in it. It can be used on hair, face, body, and taken internally. OP if you buy it, you'll 'get it'. Its not just for hair.

LOL @ "Miracle Salve." Personally, I don't view any product as a miracle, and I no longer have HGs. I like to refer to those products as what is working right now, and coconut oil happens to be one of them. I use it mainly for deep conditioning hot oil treatments. It works very well. I also like using extra virgin olive oil for this same purpose (and perhaps more because it is thicker than coconut oil). It's also good as a sealant and moisturizer. It leaves my hair very soft.

I think coconut oil is seen as a "miracle salve" because it of its "proven" ability to penetrate and condition the hair. It's supposed to be the best of any oil.

I :dance7:coconut oil. So many people kept talking about it, I thought whats the worst that could happen. I use it to style and moisturize my hair. EVCO + shea butter has replaced my KCKT. Since using it my hair has maintained moisture up to an entire week. I've only been using it for 3 weeks but my hair has done a 180. It's softer, stronger and moisturized like never before.

A year ago when my hair was very damaged from chemicals and heat use my hair HATED coconut oil and whether it was the pure oil or included in products. But I gave it another try and I love it for both my skin and hair.

Girl, Coconut oil is a Gift:

Coconut oil is awesome to mix with my other natural products (shea butter, elasta qp mango butter, etc)---> it makes them feel just like silk! I also believe it makes those products to penetrate more readily into the hair shaft, thus providing uber moisturizing ----> it moisturizes my situation just right.

I don't use it so much alone b/c its almost too light for my hair (although I imagine a person with a fine grade of hair could be sufficiently satisfied with just coconut oil). I only use it alone when I want something really light on my hair.

I find it funny that many people say it's light, but just as many say it's heavy :giggle:

I dunno which one it really is. I would say heavy, but it absorbs right in like a light oil would.

I love coconut oil...the first time I used it, I stole it from the kitchen and my mom was mad at me for using her expensive cooking oil on my hair. But it was worth it. :yep:

I mostly use it to seal, for pre-poo treatments, as part of my Hail Mary solution for bad ends, and to supplement my DC's, and it's really great. My hair stays shiny and soft.
AND it's fantastic for skin....it makes mine soft and supple without looking and feeling greasy. And when I mix it with shea butter, it keeps my elbows, knees, hands, and feet from looking like Tyrone Biggums' lips.
Yup...coconut oil is king.

it always makes my hair feel greasy  but im determined to find the correct way and amount to use since everyone says its so good for your hair.

if it makes your hair feel greasy, you may be using too much. i use mine like this:

my house is always cold :( so my oil is always solidified. i scrape a bit out of the jar with my nail, rub it between my hands, and rub it through my hair for shine. no more than a teaspoon at a time. it leaves a nice coconutty smell in my hair, & gives the perfect amount of shine.

i also use it to remove my makeup, & as a moisturizing treatment after i exfoliate. perfect for removing eyeliner & mascara.

have you used it as a hot oil treatment on dry hair? that's what I do and my hair absolutely loves it. I mix it with my burt's bees pre shampoo treatment and call it a day. it's quite a fantastic oil.
