But I got weave checked yesterday-three times

and I liked it!!!

Why do some ladies take offense to that?

I got compliments that my hair was so shiny, and soft and full, so I don't understand how anyone can see that as a bad thing. :perplexed

Can someone explain that to me???

Weave checks don't bother me, I think it's the touching that bothers a lot of people.

Some people just pretend to be offended, they don't want to admit that they love it.:lachen:

I got weave checked by family members for the second time yesterday. I like it! Can't wait till I get weave checked by a stranger... :look:

I do not understand how ppl get offended either unless someone tries to be negative with the weave check..like if someone is trying to put them on blast..or if someone tries to put their hands in it without permission

I take my weave checks with pride.

idk...my bff jill

Oh yea congrats on your compliments. :happydance:

I love getting weave checked. I only mind it if the person says it with attitude or like a backhanded compliment.

Um I think it's just simple as someone saying they don't believe we can grow our hair long and after all our hard work it still is believed to be fake

my guess

I've never been weave checked. But maybe it's a case of, happens a few times, it's cool, but happens a lot, it's annoying. And maybe it makes them think that people assume their hair is fake. I can imagine how that would be annoying. Working hard to grow some hair and can't even get your society's props for it because people just think you bought it.

It depends on the person who's weave checking. For some reason white ppl weave checking me is irritating b/c I know it comes from the mindset that black women can't grow hair.

Lawd if I got offended every time I got weave checked I'd be one perpetually pissed chick!!:lachen:

After a while I just shrug and say sure you can feel my scalp, no biggie, they do, I help them close their jaw, and we talk hair care techniques, how-to's, I try to dispel some myths and give some product recommendations before I leave the person, and I'm on my way.:yep:

Most people are just nice ladies who really want to understand how one manages to get long lengths natural when you're fully black and have type 4 hair...........however there are some people who are just ignorant and extra with their comments. I once had a guy ask me "Is that all your hair?" I said "yep" and he was like "oh you must be half puerto rican becaue you have some beautiful hair most black girls are running around with to' up short hair" They think they're giving you a compliment but what they're really doing is putting their self-hate on display. Alot of people also put down all other black girls to make you feel better, that irks me and on the occasion I'm faced with that situation I check them right then and there and tell them any black girl can get this length.

So in that scenario I see how they can get offended. But overall, its really not that serious. Obviously we have longer hair then your average sista and people are just in awe of that being all you. I find most people to be very respectful and simply curious.

I also would love to get weaved check. It's one thing to have family weave check you and another for some stranger. Hair is intimate to me. You can't just roll up on my and put your hands in my hair. I don't know you like that. I probably will cuss somebody out that that does that. I would have no problems parting my hair so someone can get a can take a good luck. But no ma'am strangers can not put their hands in my hurr. :nono::nono:

1) I don't like being touched.
2) If it's that serious to you, you can just ask. It's ruder to touch than ask, imo.
3) It's only logical that curly hair will appear longer when straightened. I don't see why it has to be touched to be believable.

Anyone that weave checks you has the same mindset.

It's just getting touched that I think would bother me. People usually just ask.

Of course, as of the moment, I am wearing a weave, so a weave check is obviously justified =)

I think some people just say it to get attention.

But others, dont like to be touched. I dont know where your hands been.....then you want to stick them in my hair. naaa son.

Being asked doesnt bothered me at all anymore.

Well dont get me wrong ladies. I dont advocate someone just walking up to you and rubbing their fingers all through your scalp. That's just rude and nasty.

But when they didnt believe me and wanted to touch, I let them. It felt good to see their faces drop when they realized this was all me

Oh, I thought "weave check" meant they had to touch your head. If it's just asking, then I've been "weave checked", too. And I liked it.

Well if weave-check means running your hands up close to my scalp, then heck naw! Somebody will get spit on! :censored: Just asking or lightly touching, that's fine. :yep:

when i get weave checked this is my face :) i have never had someone run their fingers through my hair. i actually WISH someone would do that.....it'd be an interesting homicide case to say the least

I get offended when the "checker" is outside of what I would considered to be one of my "fellow brothers/sisters." Then you have stepped outside of admiration to condescendence.

Well no. If my mom weaves checks me, it isn't b/c she doesn't think I can grow long hair, it's b/c she knows I may not always be wearing my real hair or b/c to her it looks so nice that it could be a weave. I take that as a compliment.

But I know white ppl that have specifically weave checked me and then referenced another black co-worker and how one day co-workers hair is short & the next day it's long:rolleyes: What that has to do with me IDK. I guess cause we're both black *shrug*

The same reason I get offended when people assume my hair is long because I happen to have a lighter complexion, or that my hair is the way it is cause I'm mixed. I'm like do you want me to find you a BROWN or DARKER complexion sista with long hair? Cause I can! All I have to do is come here.

They did touch my hair.

It was more like "That's all your hair? Really? Let me/Can I touch it" Then they proceeded to touch.

I wouldnt like it either if someone (family or stranger) just walked up and starting massaging my scalp talking about "Is that all your hair???" without asking or anything.

Its just a personal space thing. You dont touch people anywhere without having permission. Its rude.

yea, i hate being weave checked by other races, especially white aaahhhh, like give me a break. i hate being weave checked period but i would rather it be from a blk girl that wants info about how to retain length. its sad that most blk girl dont even know what retain length means. they just think their hair dont grow........but they get touch ups. so where they think the new growth came from:rolleyes:.

It's been almost a year and I still haven't had a weave check :wallbash::cry::swearing: I really need to step my hair game up this next year *off to sulk*
