Lawd if I got offended every time I got weave checked I'd be one perpetually pissed chick!!![]()
After a while I just shrug and say sure you can feel my scalp, no biggie, they do, I help them close their jaw, and we talk hair care techniques, how-to's, I try to dispel some myths and give some product recommendations before I leave the person, and I'm on my way.
Most people are just nice ladies who really want to understand how one manages to get long lengths natural when you're fully black and have type 4 hair...........however there are some people who are just ignorant and extra with their comments. I once had a guy ask me "Is that all your hair?" I said "yep" and he was like "oh you must be half puerto rican becaue you have some beautiful hair most black girls are running around with to' up short hair" They think they're giving you a compliment but what they're really doing is putting their self-hate on display. Alot of people also put down all other black girls to make you feel better, that irks me and on the occasion I'm faced with that situation I check them right then and there and tell them any black girl can get this length.
So in that scenario I see how they can get offended. But overall, its really not that serious. Obviously we have longer hair then your average sista and people are just in awe of that being all you. I find most people to be very respectful and simply curious.
