Slightly embarrassed to ask this question...(pics included)

But could you ladies please tell me what hair type I am. I'm about 15 weeks post relaxer. The reason I want to know is because I feel that I'll be better able to find products that worked for my hair type if I actually know what hair type I am. I suspect I am a 4a, with a bit of 3c in my nape area. What do you think?

Crown Area: (tried to get a good pic)

TIA Ladies :).

its hard to tell...but your coils look exactly like mine when i'm 17 weeks post. and i'm 4a/b

Reminds me of my own hair :yep: My hair is overall more coarse though.

4a... With silkier parts and coarser parts.

Don't worry, I felt embarrassed when I had to ask after I did my BC

looks like a 4a to me... nice small defined coils :)

you just appear to have a silkier texture but still a kinky coil....if that makes sense

Thanks ladies for not making me feel too shame-faced, lol. It's just that my hair behaves very strangely. By appearance it looks 4a, but a lot of things that work for normal 4a hair doesn't work well for my hair. For instance, I was under the impression that 4a hair liked rich, creamy moisturizers and oils. When I use those kinds of products my hair is always greasy and cruncy looking. My hair likes watery moisturizers and light-weight things. Could the fineness or density of the hair have anything to do with that?

Yeah, but at least you waited until you went natural. I'm over here showing people an inch of hair and asking them "What it is?" :lachen:.

Yep, whether your hair is fine, normal or coarse in diameter can make a huge difference in how your hair behaves :yep:

The overall density can affect how your hair looks and behaves too.

Plus, chemicals can totally change your hair.

Before my BC, my hair liked just a few drops of oil on top of a leave in. Now, it really sucks oils down. I have to treat it like a totally different head of hair.

So yeah, understanding your hair is a good thing because it helps you to make better decisions when it comes to caring for it :yep:

It's alright, you needed to know! lol

I don't think you're a type 4, I see 3c. You won't really know until you chop though. How long are you going to transition?

I haven't really decided whether I wanted to transition or not. I've been thinking a lot about it, though. I'm at a point where I either want to relax very infrequently (twice a year at most) or transition to natural. If I transition to natural I would like to transition for at least a year before I BC.

Your hair looks like my daughter's. She is either a very loose and silky 4a or a 3c. I think your hair would look gorgeous if you went natural :)

How big are your curls? You're in the best position to measure them. Measure against a coffee stirrer, an average pen's spring, and a pencil.

Lol...Now I'm thinking I'm a combo of 3c and 4a. My hair is very confused, lol.

I've found that people see curliness/silkiness and automatically think type 3. 4a can be very curly and coily (and is not necessarily coarse).

Like mwedzi said... are your coils coffee stirrer (type 4), penspring (type 4) or pencil sized (3c)? Looks penspring to me personally :yep:

Reminds me of my new growth (but yours is silkier)... except the nape (mine is not as coily as yours is), your new growth is pretty. vainღ♥♡jane is a possible hair twin of yours, she has very silky coils.

You look 3c-ish with a little bit of 4a to me. Your coils appear a little looser than the average 4a person. Of course, I'm not an expert though.
