Waist Length no lye relaxer

Is there anyone here with W/L no lye relaxed hair. Give me some inspiration. I know all the relaxed ladies here prefer lye. I have a sensitive scalp so I've been getting no lye for a good long while. I stretch, etc, and I've been doing well with the no lyes, now enjoying thicker hair than I've EVER SEEN. I just wanna know from some W/L no lye ladies, is the journey possible, and are there special considerations that I should work into my hair routine.

I know that some of my ends are a bit thin, someone was kind enough to PM me this unsolicited :) I don't wear my hair down a great deal, and my ends are in good condition though they are thin, and are left over from my Pre LHCF days. I plan to reach MBL, and then get a T-shirt, highlight it with a marker, and just trim right back down to that length every 14 to 16 weeks or so to get some thickness once I hit MBL, so please don't counsel me for my ends :)

But that aside, is a W/L journey (that's as long as I want to grow) possible with no lye?

Sylver2 uses no lye and is waist length.

ETA: I am almost BSL and use no lye as well. Lye perms are just too harsh for my scalp. No matter how much I base;I would always burn. My hair is very healthy.

As far as your ends; as long as they are healthy I wouldn't worry about them. You an trim gradually.

someone PM'd you to tell you your ends are thin? :perplexed:

Isn't Babygurl a no-lye user? and Traycee? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Keep your hope up, I'm relaxed and want to reach MBL. I think anything is possible with the proper care. You're already halfway there! :yep:

I'm not WL yet, I'm only a little past BSB.

If your hair is doing fine using no lye, then I think you can get to WL with no lye. For me, I had to switch to lye. My hair was long but it was dry and hard. Now with the lye it's soft and strong and more manageable.

That's why I switched. Everyone is telling me how fast my hair is growing now. And how it's so much thicker. And they didn't know that I had changed relaxers at the time.

i use no lye. the only thing with no lye for me is gotta do extra deep conditioning and more moisturizing. hair has thrived better once i switched to no lye and less scalp burning.

BARBIE, thank you for your response! I appreciate it!! Yes, someone did PM me to tell me that my ends were thin and give me recommendations on thickening them up. I think my ends are thicker now than they have every been, but I am aware of my hair, and her flaws, and I do know that I eventually need to trim the thinning ends.

It is very nice to know that someone else is using no-lye on this journey too. Sometimes I feel like "no-lye" is the devil around here!

I appreciate your input. And thank you for that little nudge (you're halfway there).

^^^ you're very welcome. Sorry if I misled you, I am relaxed, but I recently switched to lye. BUT I will say that I used no-lye for years with no problems, and my hair grew beautifully. But I was a crazy heat user so I never retained anything. I don't think it was due to being relaxed; it was due to heat abuse and sheer laziness.

Maybe search some threads on the whole lye vs. no-lye debate; one thing I learned from them is that a lye-user requires more protein, while a no-lye user requires more moisture. But all in all, moisture-protein balance is very important either way. :yep:

Is this the longest your hair has been? If it is, that should tell you that its possible!! :drunk:

Cherry Pie, Thank you so much girl!

And Sylver...I had no idea you were a no-lye girl. YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL AND DROOL WORTHY. No lye works for me, and my scalp as well. You are right that it does make the hair dry, and I have already tried incorporating extra moisture. I will step that game up even more.

Thanks lady!

Hey there, yeah I've been checking out the lye vs. no lye threads. In fact they inspired me to write this message...I will do further research though. I'm glad switching to lye worked for you. I think because of my doctor diagnosed scalp problem I should probably stick with no lye.

YES LADY, THIS IS PROBABLY THE LONGEST MY HAIR has ever been!! And it's definitely the thickest its ever been as well! So you are right...there is probably hope for WL! Thank you so much!

I thought about switching to lye because it seemed like everyone was using lye, but lye just burns the heck out of my head. I can base until kingdom come and still burn like heck :couchfire::burning::burning::burning: no matter what strength lye relaxer I used. Then I remember looking at Sylver2's hair and feeling inspired. She has gorgeous relaxed hair and uses no-lye relaxers and super strength if I remember; so I figured I would keep using it as well. Since starting my HHJ, I have not had any problems with using no-lye relaxers. As long as I DC, moisturize, and chelate once a month my hair is good. Sylver2 is definitely my no-lye inspiration.

Thank you very much for compiling this information for me MilkChocolateOne. It really helps!

Now I just need to find a good chelating poo.
