I haven't rollersetted since March and I have started again because I want to wear my hair down everyday. I've never thought of rollersetting up until I got here and I was wondering since my hair is not long (its SL) will my hair be flipped? I know others said no but I think its because they have longer hair. I won't mnd the flips but I was just wondering??

Hey no one answered my question! But I found out for myself, so it turns out that my hair will flip since its SL. Oh well, me likey!

Oh and I think you have to click on it to see it bigger!

Right now I spray my hair with a mixture of Rosewater and glycerin. I get nice shine, softness and my hair smells like fresh roses too! :yep:

I use megnatic(sp) rollers and the metal pins with the little pockets. I also roll upwards instead of under. I got this idea from Lorraine Tips. You can find her rollersetting tips and more here: ttp://www.youtube.com/user/LorraineTips

This way I am able to get it tighter and have more room for my other rollers. Also when I am done, I use flexi rods to keep my curls in. They are very easy to sleep on. Oh, I also learned how to blow out my roots from her too! But I only do my front edges and top of my bang. I do not do the middle where you can' t see it anyway. After I am done, I spray my whole head with another mixture of aloe vera and water to really rewet my hair before going under my pibbs.
these are great tips...oh how i wish i had a pibbs right about now!!! i have seen her youtube vids before and i really like them. i want to try flexi rods anyway since i have seen other naturals getting good results from them but using them to preserve your rollerset is a great idea.

wow i was unaware that we even had aRollerset Support Thread. Does anyone know where I can buy 3" mesh rollers?

Has anyone ever used Miss Jessies curly meringue or kinky curly custard to do a rollerset? Just wondering what the results would be on a rod set, thanks.

this is a great thread so i am subscribing. :)

i took a break from roller setting for a week and a half... and blow dried my hair on the cool setting but the texture just wasn't as nice. when i roller set, my hair feels moisturized and my ends feel nice and healthy. it takes way too long to dry my hair under the bonnet but i guess i will have to find a way to shortcut the whole thing mid week. (i wash twice a week) i'm hoping that using mesh rollers instead of magnetic will help!

Going to do a rollerset later. I'll use a bit of Lacio Lacio with a few drops of Meadowfoam seed oil as my leave in. I soak the hair with water which has a few drops of castor oil in it. This process hasn't failed me yet, my sets always come out silky and lush.

I LOVE rollersetting! :)

Bump.....

HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sitting under my bonnet dryer right now, drying my rollerset. I can not for the LIFE of me, get the rollers to stay taunt. And I'm texlaxed...so that's gonna be a HUGE problem for me when I take the rollers out. I decided to go from natural to texlax with the intent to rollerset and not use direct heat. Well, that's not gonna happen when I can't get the rollers to pull my hair tight, therefore not getting straight roots.

Help ladies.....what do I do??? I'd hate to think that I just relaxed my hair for nothing. I CAN NOT do both chemicals AND heat. My hair just can not take it. I HAVE to learn to be able to rollerset only, without using heat.

Do you roll up or roll down? I've never tried it rolling up, but I heard that it's supposed to lead to a tighter set.

Are you using magnetic rollers? You could try rolling your hair twice, then pulling, rolling twice, then pulling... I learned that from this video:

I'm definitely no expert, so hopefully others will have some advice to give you! :)

With the set last night, I rolled up and down. I did notice that my roots were flatter where I rolled up, because the roller was laying on my roots, as opposed to under them. So, I'll try to just roll up from now on. But that won't be much help, if I can't keep the rollers tight.

I'm using magnetic rollers, and I do the roll then pull method. That worked great at getting it tight. It's just STAYING that way that's my issue. And I used the anchor method and everything this time. :wallbash:

When I took my rollers out this morning, my hair looked really good. I wrapped, put on a plastic bag, then satin scarf. Then I got dressed and went back under the dryer for about 10 minutes. My hair was nice and silky....but it was HUGE where my roots are. So, I'll have to flat iron it tonight. :nono:

I rollerset last night with fabulous results...for the first time ever! I co-washed with a light citrus conditioner and deep conditioned with a moisturizing conditoner with steam. I applied a quarter size amount of Lacio-Lacio and sealed with a mix of CHI and IC Fantasia Heat Protectant Straightening Serum (nickel size since my hair is fine). I re-wet each section with water in a spray bottle and the results were smooth, light and shiny! :grin:I recorded it in my journal because I will be doing this every week until it gets warm again.:bouncy:

ya'll are using a fine tooth comb when you set right? on wet hair, correct? cause i'm not understanding how everyone says it's helping their hair. i almost rip mine out doin that. that's why i don't even bother trying to practice (not to mention it takes forever)

I use a fine tooth comb to rollerset my wet hair. I use it because it smooths the hair before I roll it, so I don't get a rough looking set.
What helps me with not ripping out my hair is:

1. Applying a proper amount of leave-in, or oil, or water, or whatever you use to rollerset your hair. It lubricates the hair and gives it some slip, so there's less chance of ripping.
2. Going in small sections. If you're only combing little amounts of hair with the comb, then it'll be easier for the comb to get through, hence no ripping. And rollersetting in small sections has other benefits too...for me, my roots get straighter, my hair dries faster, and the set comes out extra bouncy.
3. Using a comb that isn't too fine toothed. I had a Conair one that had some itty bitty teeth and would rip no matter what I did. I switched to fine tooth comb by Diane, with the teeth just a little more widely set, and the ripping stopped.
4. Detangling the hair with a wide tooth comb really really well before rollersetting.
5. Combing with proper technique. Start at the ends and work your way up, be gentle and patient, and grip the hair a little above where you are combing.

If I do all that, my rollerset days are usually trauma-free. Hth!

I am so happy that I found this thread. My husband bought me a Pibbs for Christmas last year but I really did not have a chance to use it because I was on the road so much for my job. My hair has really started to show signs of damage after a long healthy run of undamaged hair. I want to do more rollersets for a variety of reasons but I struggle with finding the right techniques and the right products. I learned a good rollersetting leason today. Do not put too mush oil in whatever you use to set. I have been under the dyer forever and I all ready know that my curls will be too loose.

This is a very good tip. I only put water in my spray bottle now instead of making mixtures and the results are great. I hate spending forever under that dryer.:ohwell:
