I see that many of us fine haired ones seem to have this problem. When I relaxed a couple days ago I noticed that my hair has grown some. However, my ends are not as thick as the rest. This always happens and I end up cutting it. I was wanting to cut it to a cute bob. My friends/mom etc. said they wouldn't and that they did'nt see anything wrong. My question is what can I do to fix this or just deal with it as my hair get longer?

This is not a solution or suggestion to you from me. I'm just commenting because I can SO relate. This is the reason I decided to stop relaxing. I did eventually cut into a bob. I've seen some relaxed heads stick it out with success. FlawedBeauty is one great example.

Give the rest of your hair time to catch up. As our hair gets longer, sometimes the ends appear thinner just because the longest layer has outgrown the rest of the hair. Don't cut it yet, wait a few months and let your hair grow some so that it will catch up. Chicoro has a post on this very issue in her fotki I think.

Was just about to tell you about Chicoro but I see msa has you covered... good tips msa.

I too have fine hair; as long as you hair ends are healthy leave them be until you reach your goal then you can do a blunt cut if you'd like...besides as your hair grows longer it will start to look thicker.

Oh personally I prefer texlaxing for the fullness and versatility, yes I am texlaxed, relaxed and stretching for 12 months.

I wish I read this post a month ago. My ends were looking thin, but got about 1.5-2" hacked off . No more trimming until June 2010 for me, my MBL goal .

Thanks for this thread OP

Thanks I was just thinking about cutting mine.

Thats a good idea. Thanks

Informative thread. My hair is fine, so I was worried about getting thin ends as my hair grew out as well. I think I will wait to reach my goal and then blunt cut and go from there.

Bumping for more responses. I am natural and am not too sure of the type but it looks straight-ish. I have no curls except when wet. My dry hair cannot be stretched because it is straight-ish. LOL

I have seen some growth over the past month but the ends look thin. Do i leave it alone or what?

I'm having the same issue. I was going to get a cut instead of a trim (gotta get rid of those split ends!), but after reading this thread I think I'll just stick with the trim. Thanks guys!

I have fine hair and this is y issue. This is the main reason why I texlaxed instead of going bone straight.

Increasing protein treatments helped my thin ends. Lite protein in middle of week and rotating a lite/medium/heavy on weekends. Of course using conditioners after each treatment. I use Ahogee 2 min. and Joico K-Pak as a light and Apohgee Reconstructor or Pentraitt as heavy.

I'm glad I read this thread ! I have 4 inches of thin ends that are driving me up the wall. I can't explain why they are thin they just are and if I hack them off to the thickest part of my hair I would go from BSL to SL ! I'm trying to avoid doing that so my plan is to trim a little bit as I go.

This is the exact technique that I use...

bump up that protein!! this is a huge issue for me, and as my hair gets longer, it can appear thinner. i started using creamy protein leave-ins on the ends and length of my hair, and that's really helped.

(i also use a teensy bit of aphogee 2-step protein on the very bottom of my ends. that has helped me IMMENSELY.)

I henna and seal my ends with castor oil to thicken up. I agree with the varying lengths though so give it time like 3months onwards to see if you notice change. If they're not damage I don't see a reason to cut and if you wear it up most of the time then why bother if it's healthy.

janaq, try very hard not to overlap the relaxer on previously relaxed hair as this thins out the ends pretty fast.

Protect those ends as much as possible as the elements can damage them, cause breakage, hence thinness will result.

Keep your hair ends off your shoulders as much as possible, especially if your hair is anywhere between neck length and APL - this is a critical stage in your haircare journey when it comes to retention. By keeping the ends protected, you will be giving your shorter hairs time to catch up with the lead hairs.

As many ladies already mentioned, make sure to give your hair some protein treatments, I like to start with mild - it's safer this way and you can monitor what your hair likes and can handle. Save the hard core proteins for times when your hair really need them.

I would recommend following up your protein treatments with a good moiturizing deep conditioner as well.

Lastly, don't forget to moisturize your hair ends daily. You may find that you may not need to get a trim/cut for a very long time.
