Selected for hair health cos that's my number one reason...

There are other reasons like - I want to see how big my hair can get, I'm ready for new ways to style my hair :yep: My Mum was natural and her hair was amazing....

for hair health. Limiting the times I expose it to chemicals makes it stronger, plus theres less chance of overlapping

For the health of my hair overlapping was making it thin all these years and I did not know it. Now my hair is so healthy and full.

Before my hhj, I stretched relaxers because I didn't like going to the salon and sitting in one place for hours.

When my hair got all dry and brittle, I'd finally run get another relaxer because I though that is what I "needed."

After a while, I got "good" and started getting more regular relaxers, plus I was into color so at the end it got to about every 2 months. My hair got thinner and shorter.

Now I realize that my hair wasn't dry and brittle because I "needed" to relax. It was a care issue.

Now I'm stretching until I feel I "need" a relaxer. I'm a six months now and I am just starting to run into those tangles everyone talks about. lol.

THe only reason why I ever stretched was b/c I just never saw a need for frequent touch ups. Before the boards and learning the benefits of stretching I would only get a touch up 3 or 4 times a year

I Began Stretching My Relaxer after a Horrible "Salon" Mishap. I needed time to first to 'digest' losing over 90% of my hair, how/if I could recover from it, and then make the decision to become a DIY'r and Care for my Own Hair going forth.:look:

So during that time, I let my hair rest. Just Rest. And I just washed and DC'd weekly. And Began researching healthy hair practices, reading everything I could about what had just happened to me and how to correct/reverse it.

And Joined this Forum.

I started stretching my relaxer because for one I was influenced by the members on this board. I tried it for the first time in February for 4 months I had great results. Now, I am stretching for 2 extra months this time around. My hair got longer and hopefully it will get its thickness back

I first reason I started stretching was I didn't want thin hair so I thought that was the only reason for stretching until I find out stretching is also good for preventing overlapping. Before I was lhcf I was natural for 5 yrs, but the hair boards made me see you can have healthy hair whether ur relaxed, or natural.

The real reason I stretch is because I saw how healthy others hair was because of stretching. Never heard of stretching before I came here. So, I tried it and boy oh boy what a difference it made it my hair. My hair is so much thicker. I have edges and nape naps that I never knew I could have. Relaxing too often really thins the hair, so the longer you can go without getting a relaxer, the better.

Other. because my mom is not at my college to do my touchups..nor do they have dominican salons here so i just wait till i go back home.

honestly...ive always stretched a long time even b4 the boards. So i was used to it. But now i added an extra month to my stretch to go from 4 relaxers a yr. To 3.

Honestly I have no real reason why I stretch my relaxers :perplexed I just do it because I feel no necessity to get one. I know my hair inside and out, so I can make my 12 week post hair look like I just got a fresh relaxer. I've just really perfected my technique so I don't HAVE to get a relaxer unless it just gets to the point that I can't handle it. So far it's been 15 weeks! Hopefully I can keep this up

To save money
For shock value
To revel in new growth
To prevent overlapping and by extent over-processing

After joining this forum, I learned about it and after trying it and seeing how great my hair has responded I love stretching now. My hair is so much healthier!:yep:

First it was a budget thing...I used to get salon touchups but had to wait until my money was right (she wasn't cheap). Then I was inspired by the ladies on the board. Now its part shock value (as another poster said) and focusing on how to take care of my textures on my own between touchups.

Unless my ng is angry and shedding/breaking. I see no need to touchup too often nowadays.

I stretch for hair health and thickness. My hair looks so much healthier now! I am going to attempt a 14 week stretch after I relax in December!

mine is for overall hair health and to get some thickness to my already fine hair. I also choose to stretch and texlax to prevent overlapping.

I'm like most, I stretch my touch-ups for healthy hair, prevent overlapping, thickness and length. Plus I texlax anyway. Ever since I did the BC two years ago by cutting off all my bone-straight relaxed hair, its been so much healthier and fuller.

It was how I was taught from day one. I would relax randomly a few times (2-3) a year and would just get my halo touched. You can stretch in a PS braid/bun so much easier if you touch the halo every now and then lol.

Now I relax every 12 weeks (Jan, Apr, July, Oct,) Unless im in braids.

I started doing it searching for some magic bullet for healthier hair. But nowadays that I can take care of my hair pretty well in between relaxers, it is often just out of lack of time. I don't always have time to relax when I need it.

Im glad you said this. When you learn how to manage your hair better, you dont feel the need to relax as much. <----MAJOR

Ditto on the lack of time.

just always did before i joined sometimes i would take a break from chemicals for at leaset 6 months

I loved being pregnant at times because no chemicals were used praised the lord and yeah my hair dries faster under the hood dryer when i need a seroius perm. i really ahte the dryer especially in the summer

To challenge myself, lack of money, overall hair health....

My hair grows pretty fast, so by Week 6 it is he!! to style, but I was able to stretch 8 weeks last time...This time I'm shooting for 10 weeks until I reach my goal of 12. Braidouts and twistouts help me survive!

I didn't want to put chemicals in my hair when I was pregnant. But I wound up putting one in after I couldn't maintain a routine during my hospital stay. My blood pressure dropped very low while I was standing in the shower trying to rinse it all out of my hair.

From then on I decided that I wouldn't let another relaxer almost kill me! I stretched another 5 months after that and when my postpartum shedding began, I decided to relax my hair to asses the damage.

During my last stretch I incurred severe breakage at the line of demarcation in areas around the top of my head. That taught me that I needed to figure out a way to keep my new growth more moisturized, and probably not stretch as long.

Last year ALL of the nape fell out. I stopped relaxing for 9 months, not even because of that but because of medication that I was taking.

The nape was almost longer than it had been before, at the end of those nine months, and overall i had good growth and retention.

I realized that my hair probably just can't handle being relaxed every 8 weeks. I'm stretching this time because I'm very hesitant about going back to to that old hairdresser, but I still haven't found a new one.
