The flat iron that gives you that fresh from the salon look is...

These threads kill me. How can I decide between a Sedu or FHI when there are people who swear by both?

BTW, let me stop knocking my Solia before it bums out on me. It's a good flat iron.

I have never used the FHI but I ordered the Sedu and returned it. I must not have known what I was doing:look:

YES! I been waiting for a response like this, lol! Are they really that similar in results? Are you relaxed or natural?

I'm relaxed. But I only flat iron when my NG is crazy. Which starts at about 14-16 weeks. The Runway is very good...but its basically the same as the platform in its straigtening results. They both get my hair pin straight, have a variety of heat settings and have high quality plates.

You can't go wrong with a Sedu or FhI. I have both, having recently purchased a FHI. I still cannot part with my Sedu but both are great irons.

ETA: I'm 100% natural, WL/HL 4A. Both get the job done nicely.

so I just watched this video the lady seems pretty knowledgeable. The "science" (if that's what you want to call it) behind this flat iron is that it has more ceramic plates than leading brand flat irons. FHI has I think she said 6-8 plates while a regular flat iron has only 2-3. The FHI is heavier & thicker than the flat iron the woman was comparing it to (Paul Mitchell). I really liked the results of the FHI but of course she's relaxed and I'm natural :yep:. To add she did mention that the FHI is marketed more towards individuals who use their flat irons more often (i.e. professional stylist).... just thought I'd try to contribute to the wealth of information in this thread

ETA another video from a more reputable reviewer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thVDtPulMOI (:

Really? What all have you tried?

Andis was my first flat iron purchase - which was for emergencies since i NEVER flat ironed my hair. I used to think it was pretty good, too, before i used the big boys. It can NOT be compared with the others i've tried... chi, chi turbo, and rusk...it couldn't even hang with those, that's just my opinion, ofcourse, (it was the $20 wally world model, not the tourmaline-fancy one which probably works very well)...it snagged, too. Ouch!:nono: And I just had to add that i HATED Maxiglide. Hated it.

Babybliss..The best flatiron ever is the Andis:look:..silky smooth.
I used it for my sig picture last year before i stepped my flatiron game up..still nothing so far has really compared

I'm 23 months deep into my transition and my Platform straightens my hair far better than my Sedu, I'm talking 1-2 passes while I had to do 4+ passes with my Sedu.

I use my iron on 375 with Hair Nectar and Fantasia IC heat protectant.

i love the Tool Science Ceramic Tourmaline, i'm natural and I get great results. Most dont believe I'm not relaxed until they see my hair when its not straight. I got it from Sallys (check the reviews on it online) and for those who don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money. I had the Chi turbo nano whatever and as my hair grew, i didnt think it did that great of a job and I love the tool science.

I also think technique and heat setting makes a huge difference. When I flat iron, I dont really like pin straight, I like some sort of texture, like this:

I also think blow drying technique is important.

I'd like to try the FHI Runway out of curiosity, but I cant bring myself to spend that much money on myself and on hair (because I could send the money back to family in Nigeria).

But then again, I doubt anyone who spent upwards of $400 on a flat iron would diss it even if it didn't do any better than the iron that cost $100 or less.

ETA: I use a technique very much like Patchouli's

My hair dresser uses the FHI runway, and i could never figure out why I couldnt get salon results at home. But its because of my flat iron. Also you girl mention. What is the best technique to get salon results?

OMG, your hair is stunning.

I do think it has a TON to do with technique...I've been looking at some flat ironing vids on Youtube and there was a lot of different types of flat iron brands that were used with salon-stunning results.

NICHI: How do you blow dry your hair? Is there a certain technique you use/blow dryer you have? Also do you use a comb attachment or concentrator nozzle, etc.

Sedu was okay to me. I love my Babyliss Tourmaline and Chi Ultra; they give that salon SWANG! :)

Well, it's not the FHI 207RVI. That iron doesn't do anything for my hair.

Oh, just found out it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. That's about right. :lachen:

Hey OSWF, I use the Vidal Sassoon Ionic 1875 dryer with attachments, check it:

i use the comb on the right end for blow drying; it's like a rat-tail comb. it's the business and i really, really like it.

It's about $20 bucks at walmart, and online Im sure you can get it cheaper. I separate my hair in quarters apply heat protectant/moisturizers and blow dry. It looks like this before flat ironing (ive posted this pic before on here)
100_7736.jpg

after i do this for all sections, i apply a little more (tiny bit more) heat protectant to each section and flat iron and use this technique, it's nothing seriously different than other techniques.

I really think it is more technique than anything, but I hear it is the FHI.

I agree...it is the technique! When I didn't have the technique down my flat ironed hair was a mess. Once you master the technique it's a breeze!

And btw.....the FHI is the best!!!! Love it!

For those familiar with the Patcholi85 Flat Iron tutorial (it was posted earlier)...she breaks down CHI v. Runway v. Platform in this video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BGNdYpDsi0&feature=channel

Yes, she is using FHI now, but she had great results with the CHI. Also, she addresses a lot of technique issues in the video. I don't agree w/ everything, but before anyone goes out and buys a new flat iron...it is worth tweaking your technique.

I hope this isn't what an earlier poster posted, but I could open the links for some reason...so yeah.

thanks so much for this thread ladies! On my list, I have the Rusk flat iron that several ladies have raved about and the Turboion croc.

Isn't that the FHI Platform? It looks like it's still available to order through FHI's website.

I don't know what the 207RVI is.

I purchased mine from Folica.com and on their page they are out of stock and they list this flatiron as being discontinued by the manufacturer.

They also give a recommendation to purchase the Platform or the Technique if you were interested in the 207RVI.

Check it out: http://www.folica.com/FHI_Ceramic_Fla_d1865.html
