Been natural for good since June 2003. I have BCd a few times since then. I've only been super serious about hair care and put the scissors down for the last year or so, so I don't have a ton of hair to show for my 6 years.

Pic in my avatar is about a year old--it's a shrunken braid out, if that makes any sense at all. I should take some pics to chart my progress now that I have hidden the scissors from myself.

Congrats. I've been natural since 96 however I have had too many setbacks to count. I just got serious about my hair last year. I would say this is the longest my hair has been since being natural 5-6". I'm waiting patiently for growth.

It seems that the general consensus is that most 6 year naturals experience a heck of a lot of setbacks that hindered growth….HEAT and over trimming being the culprit Interesting….thanks for sharing…it just so happens that I am afraid of heat and trimming:rofl:

The only bad part about being afraid of heat is that I really don’t know how long my hair is because my hair is never straight. I am pretty sure it’s BSL-MBL. My hair at the moment is stretched b/c of my recent natural braids which I took down and placed in twist

I may take pictures of my six year naps and post them…I have had my hair dusted at least 3 times in the last six years…and so far all appears to be well…
Flower, what length was your hair at 6 years???

Congrats Netta!

I've been natural all my life (26 years), but just started my HJ last year. My retention has been thwarted by heat abuse and subsequent dusting. Length at April blowout:

I've been heat free for the past 3 months (don't know how much longer that'll last)

I have visited your album before, your hair is very nice!

Natural since 98. Congrats to you :-)

Thank you!

i've been natural all my life
it was usually around BSL until i killed my hair when i was 13 ish:nono: i started to look after it when i was 16
found the hair care forums when i was 17 and i'm hair was SL ish
a hair dresser burned a good 40% of my hair straight so then i burned tiny areas of my hair last november
so i' m growing out heat damage. i would probably be WL if it wasn't for that plus my breakge problems

i'm getting really close to BSL but i think i have long armpit:ohwell::lachen: cause it's taking LONG

i'm a inch or so past APL
my hair is in my siggy and check my profile for fotki

Congratulations on your milestone!:yep:
Natural for over 15 years. Was texalaxed prior for about 5 years. Natural before that.

I look forward to joining your ranks in 1.5 years!!:meme:

My short term goal is BSL, next goal is MBL ultimate goal is WL although I can barely handle my hair at this length!:lachen:

I'm a huge heat user but I think eventually I might wane yself off of it:scratchch but I always wanna see my progress!:ohwell::giggle:

Thanks Netta!

Your welcome!

Your hair is beautiful! I wish there was some other way to show true length (from time to time) w/o heat or chemicals...if there were I might try that...:scratchch

Happy growing!

Banding/braiding to stretch? Curlformers on wet hair that is then airdried? Threading and wearing that do for a week so your hair gets stretched?

six years. wow! congrats Netta1! :yay:

All of you ladies have such beautiful hair. My 2nd nappiversery is coming up in Nov. I have only had one setback so far (scissor happy beautician). My hair grown back to the length it was b/f getting it trim. My goals are now to retain moisture and length. I love wearing my hair out so will get better with the protective styling.

hmmmmm interesting very good ideas, have you tried banding or threading before? I've tried banding but not threading...thanks to for the ideas...

btw my roots stretch pretty well after regular braids but never well enough to actually wear in a straight style....

Not banding but threading. :yep: When I was in elementary school, my mom or stylists would thread my hair and I'd wear the style for a week or two. My hair would be soft and straight when I got out of them.
