Is BKT a Miracle Product?

It is for me. No relaxers needed. Just this, and I have the best of both worlds. Straight when I want, or curly when I want. All without the permanency of either. :yep:

Thank you so much for posting that!! I truly enjoyed her experience.

I don't think BKT is a miracle product. Like anything, there are pros and cons, and there is a definite learning curve.

Now that I've issued the disclaimer lol, my experience has been most like the reviewer above. I love my BKT'd hair. All the pluses of my hair before BKT (the kinks, the texture, the fullness) without the negatives (the single strand knots, the tangling, the fragility, the frizz); with a few added bonuses I wasn't even expecting (more freedom with protein use, easier to maintain moisture protein balance, able to wash n go and wet bun more freely and without breakage, smoothness when kinky or straight)

Is it a miracle product? Nah... but it's been miraculous for me. And, no doubt, will be so for many others. It defintely offers many options for women that are looking for something... I imagine it will be especially valued by women that have tried the perms and natural/no heat, straight natural, etc... and are now looking for something different, but not sure what.

Most of those without good results have left too much product in the hair. In other words, they were self-treating, non-trained. Well, I'm going to try it. Sick of relaxers, my hair will be like the Sherwood Forest if untreated. I don't want the straight ends and thick roots mess that invites severe shedding and breakage. Still trying to find a treatment that's less than a million dollars lol.

I blow dried and flat ironed my 9 month post hair in 30 mins this morning. I'd call that a miracle, lol. But really I like the way it makes my hair feel and detangling is a breeze. This is my 3rd treatment in 7 months. My hair has reverted back each time, as I let it wear off between applications. I may not do that this time.

Has anyone had any damage from this yet or know anyone with any damage or bad results?

My first BKT, I was in love. My second BKT was a bad result. My hair broke more than expected. This was because I was trying to get my new growths straight. I am 4b. My hair is unruly and I usually try not to touch it as much as I can when I have lots of new growth. I think it was a bad idea trying to handle it like that. I still like BKT. I think the breakage was due to all the stress I put my new growth to. I was trying to see if I could use BKT to extend my perm but that was a bad idea for me. I'm planning on doing it 3 weeks post relaxer when my hair can handle the stress. My permed hair came out great but my roots are still thick.

It wasn't for me.

To much heat number one.

Left my hair feeling coated, brittle and unable to accept moisture.

My ends looked a mess immediately after the treatment causing me to cut off about 3 inches.

It finally wore off after 2 months, but no, I won't be retrying it. Not worth the risk.

Plenty of people have grown long hair without the BKT, so I guess i'll do things the "hard way" and do the same.

oh ok, will have to do research

Thank u for answering honestly

I'm scared to take risks

Research is the key. There is PLENTY of information here, and GOOGLE should be everyones best friend. You also need to know "your own" hair. That way you can an infomed decison that is best for you :yep:

I wouldn't go as far to say it's a miracle product but I like it for now. Who knows after some time I may get tired of it and stop. And the lady's hair in that video is so pretty. I'm not done watching so i'll have to see what it looks like when it's done

Say it again! Cutenss, you are the woman.

Isn't it gorgeous, though?! And looked fabulous at the end, also. I only wish she'd shown the change of her hair after the first wash. Especially when she kept saying, "but it won't make my hair pin straight". I was like, "so let's see it!!! hahaha LHCF has really spoiled me. :yep: But I did really love her result.

AtlantaJJ is using it this way but she had to tweak the process a little. For instance on freshly relaxed hair, she uses softliss but as she gets new growth she says her roots "eat Softliss and ask what's next". She says when she's stretching she has to go up to 4% Global and do a roots only touch up and this gives her the result she's looking for.

What I love about BKT is that, as a natural, I have no line of demarcation as I let the product wear off. I have not had a treatment in months, now. And while handling my hair, there's no difference in the way I handle the bkt'd hair and the new growth.

Does it make your hair very shiny? Is anyone with a BKT wearing their hair curly on a regular basis?

The 4b hair at my crown grows slower than the rest of my hair, the hair is less dense there, and the hair is coarse and fragile so it breaks easily. I am wondering if a BKT can help me grow that part by making it stronger.

I thought about 4% but I didn't want that on my perm hair.

I've BKT'd twice and im undecided about where it fits into my haircare regimen. My first treatment was a success, the second not so much. I did both with Softliss.

The first tx was 8 weeks post and it smoothed and helped my hair with tangles and breakage. I was able to rollerset my hair and everything (which is usually a big no no after 6 weeks). My new growth was less combative with my relaxed hair.
The second tx, was 1 week post relaxer. My hair felt tangled and hard. I experienced breakge in the next 4 -5 weeks that i JUST got under control last week. I actively tried to remove my last BKT with clarifying and SLS poos, ACV rinses, and sodium products. After i did that, my hair returned to normal and was more manageable again.

I'm 9 weeks post and am thinking about doing the Dreamhair soon, possibly this weekend. My reason for giving it one last chance: i was able to retain a lot of growth from w my first tx. If Dreamhair doesn't work, i'm giving up!

Thanks for posting VKB.. I'm wondering is this BKT or the Kerasmooth treatment.. she's saying there was no odor and formaldehde free...in any case it looks great. I think her natural hair was pretty and baby soft too

Yeah my hair is too 'iffy' with Change

This would be a DRASTIC step for me to take

being natural for over 15 years

I would have to probably know someone personally and that person would probably have to be my sister and watch her hair for a long time first LOL

Yeah her hair was pretty before and after

I thought about 4% but I didn't want that on my perm hair.

I can certainly understand that. She does the 4% for roots only in between relaxers but I'm certain some of it gets on her texlaxed portion.

She said she did the Coppola. Same as Southerntease. Coppola doesn't like to say that they are BKT but... a Keratin Treatment lol. So everything but the brazilian part, I guess.

That's what I was thinking I wanted to see it after her wash.

Speaking of Southern Tease, I wonder how her hair is doing and if she's sill BKTing

I wonder how her hair is, also. I love her pre and post bkt curlies. Sooo beautiful! I remember her doing the bkt made a great big splash in the online hair community. On different boards there was all kinds of drama surrounding her decision to do it and then she just went really super duper quiet. Can't say as I blame her.

she (SouthernTease) said she did it b/c it was offered to her for free and its her hair and she can do as she pleases- lol! but she also said that while the results were ok, it wasnt something she was rushing to do again. She has no current plans for another BKT but hasnt permanently ruled them out. She covered the whole reverting process on her site, too but I can't remember the details regarding how that went for her...

I researched BKT, and while it does work, the active ingredient is not the keratin but formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is used for embalming. It's associated with cancer. The legal limit is 0.2%, and BKT has up to 4% in it. According to Dr. Ali Syed of Avlon, even the brands that are supposed to be formaldehyde free have formaldehyde in there. He could be wrong, but I just thought I'd throw it out there, coz I was curious myself.

Here's the article:
http://www.dralisyed.com/2009/07/keratin-formaldehyde-revelation-cancer.html#more

Another one about cancer from cancer.gov
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/formaldehyde

"What have scientists learned about the relationship between formaldehyde and cancer?
...............Several NCI studies have found that anatomists and embalmers, people who are potentially exposed to formaldehyde in their professions, are at an increased risk of leukemia and brain cancer compared with the general population........." (www.cancer.gov)

If it doesn't damage the hair then it would be a great transistion tool and natural heads can rock a different style without it being permanent.

The formaldehyde issue has been discussed many times and there are a lot of different opinions about it.

Southerntease did post pics of her hair on her blog to show that she still had curls but the BKT still hadn't worn off and there haven't been any reports about the health of her hair or its conditions.

Angelgrl135....I never knew that she admitted that it was given to her for free.

Did you guys see the video? This woman is as ignorant as the day is long:

http://video.newsweek.com/#?t=26405848001&l=26110504001

So they're calling it a frizz treatment now. LOL No you are straightening your hair. Just say that and stop acting like you are not trying to be something else. The woman said she hated her hair come on now. Yeah Yeah I know there are many women including on this board who hate their hair. But the dumb bunny said she doesn't have black hair nor white but sort of in between for reasons unbeknownest to her. WTF???? She has a very loose curl pattern, if she can't comb through that she has doesn't know what she's doing.
