Could the word "PJ" be another term for a starting compulsive hoarder...?

....for hair-related items????

Hmmmmmmm...I was watching a show called Hoarders on A&E yesterday and it got me thinking.....

Well the hoarders on that show have an illness...so it's definitely not the same thing.

But, I have seen some stashes that made me  and :nono:.

I guess if a person's stash is starting to fill every nook and cranny of their house, then it might be time to reevaluate their habits.

I'm sorry, but :lachen: . But no, I hope it never gets that bad for anyone. Those people have serious psychological issues. One guy I saw didn't throw ANYTHING away, including his trash! :nono:

I don't think it's the same thing.
I'd consider PJism when someone just loves to buy stuff for their hair, so they have a ton of products. Like, I'm a PJ. I can't walk into CVS without coming out with some new moisturizer or a conditioner or a comb or some bobby pins, or a new headband...or something. It's not always a new brand to me, sometimes, I'm just replenishing one item that I used up, or I'm replacing something that I broke or lost, but still.
And then, many PJs clean out our stashes, if for no other reason than it makes more room for us to buy more stuff.

Hoarders don't ever clean out anything until they have no choice. They have a really close bond with their stuff. And then, releasing their items is like...releasing a child; it's very emotional for them. But most PJs don't have any problems throwing out or giving away an item that didn't work out for them.

I think PJism can turn into hoarding, if one has that kind of predisposition or if something traumatic happens to them, forcing them to cling to their items in that way. But inherently, I don't think they are the same.

Everytime i watch that show it makes me run and clean the whole house. My stash only occupies my bathroom so I dont think its that bad.

Not for me...I buy alot of products but if i don't like em after the first time, sometimes second; i will give them away. I hate hoarding. I just gave a a huge bag of products ( some new) to my friend the other day just to get it outta my house.

I can understand how a PJ and hoarder may be similar. Sometimes, hoarding can accompany a compulsion to buy or collect things, especially things that aren't necessarily needed. The only time you should start to worry about your PJ habit becoming a hoarding habit, is when you reach a point where you are severely unable to throw anything away due to an imagined, delusional, and/or over-dramatized fear. For example, you think you'll lose all your hair if you threw away a product that helped you grow it...something out there like that. I actually saw an episode of that show where the sufferer didn't throw any of his dog items away because he thinks it will kill his dog :perplexed I think a big part of hoarding is having a fear so large that paralyzes your ability to get rid of anything related to that fear. But also remember, there is such a thing as being a shopaholic. And that's an issue in itself.

i agree with some of the ladies here. i think it can get that way. I mean i was buying 5 bottles of conditioner for every 1 i was using. freaking ridiculous. i watched that show one day and felt kinda crazy. i have to fight buying stuff (helps now that im broke). but i was actually feeling like i couldn't part with my conditioner. but um thats the whole point of having it, to use it. so im down to like 9 jars/bottles from like 17.

I do think that there are some PJ's that are definitely hoarders.

When CVS had VO5 for $0.66 and folks were picking up a hundred bottles at a time, I was like 'fo serius'.

Umm when it stops you from living your life to it fullest, then yes. Otherwise its harmless.
