My Transitioning Twist-Out (Pics!)

I'm relaxed, transitioning to texlaxed. I used to be one of those touch-up every 4 weeks people, but Wen and LHCF have helped me see the error of my ways. I got my last touch-up Aug. 15, and my goal is to get to the end of September and assess the situation, ie, see if I can deal with this new-growth.

As for this particular hairstyle, I did a little experiment to see what my hair was really looking like, so I prepoo'd with oils, co-washed, and dc'd, as usual, but instead putting on my scarf or doing ponytails, I just let it dry free and wild. It was... interesting. In the not cute way. So, I re-wet the whole mess with those Nexxus leave-ins (the liquidy one and the headdress) and Chi keratin mist and did a bunch of two-strand twists, like, a lot, cuz I was trying to get the roots back in some type of order. Then, I rolled them on flexirods, using the smooth n shine silk mousse. The rollers didn't take too well, but the twists turned out wonderfully, and I really liked how the style highlighted the texture at the roots, cuz we all know how tricky it can be making 2 or 3 textures on the same head look fly.

Awwww, thanks everybody! I have to admit, I was a little concerned about how it looked since I was rushing and, you know, there's a fine line between avant garde and busted, but when I got to where I was going, one of the barmaids, a fellow hair sister*, even though she's white, was like, OMG!! Look at your hair! After she finished gushing, lol, she announced proudly, I did henna, feel my hair. So I did... and told her she needed some protein. The latina she was with looked at me so weird, it was funny.



*She bleaches the he!! out of her hair, like, peroxide blonde, so we commisserate on our fine, chemically damaged hair.

@Addy3010, you figured out the trick to this hairstyle! My hair is SOOOO not thick, not at all, that was fake thickness. My mom and I have always had really fine hair. For example, look at my hair blown out (pre-trim length check) and in loose curls (post-trim). I think pre-pooing with castor, amla, and shikakai oils really made a difference.

eta: on the question of highlights, no, that's henna! My hair is naturally kind of a dirty brown that gets light brown/blond streaks in the summer, so the henna is just tinting the hair that's already lighter. I use Surya creme henna, in mahogany. I love the strength i gives my hair, I do it 2x a month, and when I fell off, my hair suffered greatly, as you can see from the pic. In the one with the straight hair, I was about 1.5-2" from APL, but it started breaking and what not. Hence, the trim.

I did it twice before (@ 15 and 19), but I don't think I'm at a point in my life now where I want really short hair. (Altho, the last time I did it, I must have been lookin' m-y-tee good bc that's how I met my man , but anyway...)

So here's my plan, which may or may not work: I'd like to get it somewhere between full APL and BSL, at which point, I'll start with the mini-trims. It will be 2, and sometimes 3 textures at once, but I find that long, healthy hair covers a multitude of (texture-mixing) sins. I have 2" to APL, and I get about 3/4" a month, so this shouldn't take too long.

Sounds like a plan!

A SHS cut off too much of my relaxed hair at the beginning of my transition and I could have done with the added protection (for my natural hair). Hold on for as long as you can
