Fine haired ladies: Spray or serum heat protectant?

Hi ladies

I am in desperate need of a heat protectant....This Tresemme one im using is not doing the trick.....

I just wanted to get an idea of what type of heat protectant is best for fine strands..and preferably some recommendations??

I voted both. It just depends on how I'm feeling that day. I like Fantasia IC serum and Beyond the Zone Turn Up the Heat spray.

My choice "BOTH" wasn't there. I use both. I use the spray after stretching my hair to wet it for my wet-to-dry press (<--an essential part of my flat ironing process) and then I apply the serum to small sections at a time and go over my hair one more time with the flat-iron to seal my hair.

I need to press my hair wet and in the past, I'd just use water. But coz I'm trying to be more careful now, the spray heat protectant replaced my water. And I ALWAYS use an anti-frizz serum to seal my hair when I press it as it helps keep humidity from reverting my hair

I use serum on my ends while airdrying and spray all over just before flat ironing. You have to be light with the serums if you want bounce.

I use a serum (non-name brand I'm broke right now) on wet hair and actually a little oil when I'm done. I've found that Almond oil doesn't weigh my hair down and I get a good sheen. I just rub a little on my hands and pat it on there.

It leaves my hair stiff, with no movement. It also doesn't give me any shine so it had to go...

i'm in love with FHI hot sauce and Chi silk infusion. FHI hot sauce is neither spray nor serum, more like a cream, and the chi is of a serum like consistancy. but i apply both, and they dont weigh down my hair.

Fantasia IC heat protectant serum-it's in a pink bottle. super light, smells good, and i've never had a problem with my hair not reverting (i'm natural)
i think the important thing for fine hair is to be careful with how much you use. i part my hair in four sections, and use about a silver dollar size amount for each section.

I prefer sprays. Serums slide right down my hair shaft onto my face. I got tired of being shiny all the time. Sprays stay put. The one I loved the most (back when I was a frequent flat ironer) was Cibu Sashini Thermal Shine Solution. You can buy it at Bubbles Salon or online. Amazing shine!

For real? are you using the Thermal recovering for straighten the hair gel? Gosh i love that thing! it not just protect your hair, it really helps when you straight your hair with the flat iron.

Besides i also love Chi 44 Iron Guard, my hair really loves this two stuff.

i have the iron guard, but i must be using it wrong, b/c it leaves my hair really sticky and stiff. i may revisit it, when i start wearing my hair straight again.

serum, hands down. spray heat protectants get my hair all wet and make my hair feel all funny. serums give me slip and heat protection at the same time.

my favorite serum of all time - Ion Silk Drops; it can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply. Unfortunately they changed the smell (from this delicious men's cologne scent to some nasty cheap floral scent) and removed the hydrolyzed silk. if you can find an old bottle, your hair will thank you!

i use just a quarter sized amount for my whole head of hair; don't need much more than that.

Nah, mine is the Tresemme Heat defence spray, I think it's a different product.

I had a bad experience w/spray protectant (Motions) that left me with broken hair. Now I'm traumatized Plus I find that spray protectants make it hard for me to comb my hair. I don't know why. I just need the slip of a serum (applied sparingly).
I like Giovanni's serum and the famous Sabino. Also I like Elucence Silk Hydrating Elixir, which is super light and a good value for the amount you get in the bottle

I love sprays. I'm a product junkie and have tried a lot of them...Tresemme (not too good), Chi 44 Iron Guard (really didn't like it, made my hair stiff), Ion heat protectant (iked it), etc. I currently use Fantasia IC and love it!
I've been thinking about trying Beyong the Zone Turn Up the Heat and am glad that so many people on here seem to like it. Guess I'll go out and by it whenever it finally stops raining/flooding in Atlanta

The couple of times that I used heat protectant I used the John Frieda spray.

I don't flat iron or blowdry too often but I don't use heat protectant.

wow, really? what texture is your new growth? if you're in the 4s & you have those results, i may have to try it
