Any Natural 4b's Hair Look Straight?

OMG. So glad for this thread. My NG behaves exactly like this. I went to have my install done two weeks ago and I had lightly blowdried my hair with its 3+ post relaxer NG.... and when my stylist was braiding she asked if I did a touch up!! It was that straight! I had passed a blowdryer once through that hair after an airdry...

Well... I guess that confirms it... 4b!!

OT.. but Crissi your hair is soooo fly!!!:thud:
And yes I have noticed that my hair gets pretty straight as well. Especially with some Shea butter and a scarf

Awwwww thank you!

I must be the only type 4 that hates shea butter, any type of butter/ thick thing just doesn't work on my hair. I have to use light glycerin/oil based products and a light liquid leave in. And cones are the devil for my hair! It leaves it plastic like and coated :nono:

No, you're not alone. Shea butter (actually any butter) is not my friend. S Curl however is. I used cones only when I press my hair and they serve their purpose well of sealing my hair from the effects of moisture in the air, so I do like them. I wouldn't use them on my hair otherwise. I stay faithful to my beloved S Curl.

i think its kind of cool..very versatile:yep:
if i want waves..i just apply gel or apply some kinda moisturizer and scarf it down for minimum waves..
if i want straight..shea butter and plats then pick it out..
as for curls..just get a weave:grin:

That is, if you want big curls that stand out.

If you don't mind little curls that no one knows about but you :giggle: or those who get really close enough to see the pattern :p, then just wash it and condition it well (you may have to do this a few times if your hair is always stretched to get it to revert to its resting phase) and use gentle manipulation like finger detangling and then just let it be. Good luck detangling later though if you let it dry like that. Or you can comb it out into an afro style and still have your little curls all huddled up in a love ball (<--that's my Lisa Simpson do  )

yep my hair gets a straight look as well when i pull it into a puff, looks very similar to nonie's.

OP: my hair likes OILS; Castor, Jojoba, Herbal, Coconut. my hair also likes Shea Butter and Giovonni 50/50 conditioner (i use as a leave in) I just ran out but i'm trying something else to help detangle before i get another bottle. :)

Wow - I didn't know 4b hair had this characteristic. I guess that counts me out! Nothing on my head gets straight without a fight!

i like your post:giggle:

Yep happens to 4a's too...

My hair naturally coils up and clumps together, but when forced to "lay down" or after having my hair in a stretched style.. I can get my roots to lay down straight...

If I add gel or something then that brings the nap/coil pattern back out...

Yep my hair is the same way. It easily straightens out even now that I am 37 weeks post relaxer. All I have to do is wash/condition, add moisturizer, brush with a paddle brush, put in a bun, put on a scarf, airdry and my hair lays flat/straight. If I want to keep the waves I can brush with a denman brush, put on a scarf, airdry and my hair will have a smooth wavy pattern to it that I wear in a bun.

My co-worker didn't believe me when I told her I don't use heat on my hair. She also didn't believe me when I told her that I stopped relaxing my hair at the end of last year.

So far I'm liking the non-relaxed parts of my 4b hair. My mother says even as a kid my hair straightened out with a brush. She described it as krinkly in the root, straight, then frizzy on the ends.

My hair texture looks like the pictures posted earlier. I'm relaxed now. But when I was younger, even tho I have very nappy 4b hair, it still kinda looked "straight" but very puffy, dry and tangled. I don't have a curl pattern, just random bends.

I'm happy to see other folks with my hair texture. I rarely see it on here seems like.

I have some tiny patches in the back corners of my hair that will randomly have some tiny pin shaped coils but then on top of the coil, they also are kinked up in random bends.:drunk:

My hair straightens fairly easily. I have had several stylists tell me this when pressing out my new growth and also when applying relaxers. They always seem surprised bc my hair is "rough". The problem tho with heat pressing my natural hair when i was younger it definitely reverted very quickly.
