So I was going through Video Jug, a site that is all about how to, and there was a video for how to straighten afro hair. I wonder who said this was an ok video. :lachen::lache

i thought video jug was supposed to be a site of experts. :ohwell: I guess it's a step below expert village.

:perplexed

That girl's hair looks terrible...the end result looked worse than the beginning.

And it was already straight....

that's what I thought? why smoke? and why is she straightening her already straight hair? I thought she would have a fro or something. :nono:

The smoke is from the oil. It's funny when I started my HHJ and scouring the internet for hints and tips this was one of the first videos I came across. Even back then with my ignorant self knew that you cannot use coconut oil as a heat protectant. :nono: I really can't understand why she needed to straighten the hair anyway.

Her hair looks worse after the flat ironing!!!. ¿coconut oil? OMG i'm surprise she have hair!

I've seen people successfully press out their hair with coconut oil and other oils. I've even used a few drops of oil (In conjuction with serum/heat protectant) and my hair came out nice.

I dunno... in any case, it can be done sucessfully.

The thing is... do you not wash or deep condition hair before you straighten it? It looks like she did it on dirty hair. Plus her hair looked dry on top of it.

Eeeek.

Those two look like zombies. My skin crawed each time she ran that flat iron over the same piece of hair. Her hair was already straight all she needed to do was curl the ends which could have been done by using curlers or put it in a wrap.

The title on the video said How To Straighten Afro Hair That Is Relaxed.

The girls hair was dirty first of all. That is a no no
She had dandruf if you look closely
Using coconut oil on already relaxed, dirty hair to straighten the fumes going up into everyone's lungs has got to be causing some long term issues if this is how she does this on a regular.

If this was a training video of what NOT to do I would say yes it is a great video.

But it isn't.

What in the WORLD! They look happy like I know I got this people gonna be doing this and watching our video and stuff. We go this girl!:lachen:

Wow you got all up in her dandruff and dirt, You were serious about trying to find some useful tips in that video weren't you:lachen::lachen:

I'm sure the hair looks fine, my issue was about protecting the hair. The problem is the 'tutorial' purports that oil should be used as a heat protectant when it is not, so it gives out a poor message. I'm sure there will be exceptions to the rule of folks successfully using an oil as a part of their hair straightening regime as opposed to using a proper thermal styling product, but that's not a risk I would be willing to take - my hair would singe right off! Also there is risk of the hair shaft exploding on impact of the flat iron if it's hot enough.

I can understand that. I've never not used a heat protectant either.

Still for me, the biggest no no was that they did it on dirty, unconditioned, dry looking hair.

The coconut oil is at least a more understandable "mistake"... but it does work well for some.

How wrong was that video? Let me count the ways...

1. She's pressing already straight hair
2. She's pressing dirty hair
3. She's pressing damaged hair
4. She's so busy cheesing for the camera she's burning up her hair
5. She passed the flat iron over the same spot 50-11 times
6. She used hairspray on flat hair that has no curls
7. They only spent $5 to make this video
8. They had the nerve to have a production team for this hot mess
9. They had the nerve to post this tragedy on the internet

Oh my, I was ready to trim those strings. Now, when a client is sitting in the chair and then ends look like that, they do need a trim, "to me," or a curly style. That style looks boring and flat. Not a good look.

forget about the video, let's talk about your siggy!!! :lachen:
i literally spit out my soymilk...

*SIGH*... I remember the days when my hair looked like that.... HAM!!!

I even had the same straightener... I thought I was doing something with the "ceramic" gold n' hot (or whatever that one is called)...

Its funny i seen this video a while ago and i thought it was awful then and i still do. There was no lenght, no shine, no bounce to the hair-it just looked awful overall

The video says it was afro textured hair that has been relaxed. Maybe none of you really watched or listened to it that far.:giggle: If it isn't a LHCF approved video...then don't take it seriously.

Her hair looked terrible. I haven't had a relaxer in a long time, but I know she could have gotten the exact same results from doing a wrap. There was no life to her hair, no bounce, and the sheen was washed out from all those flakes coming from her scalp.:look:

i dont think ghd wanted their flatiron represented in that way lol
