I just started this hair journey in July. The length of my hair sometimes seems a tiny bit longer when I'm styling it. But, when I look at pictures from July.. it looks the same.

How many months into it should I expect to see growth? Or would I not be able to tell until I get another relaxer?

It Depends are you looking for Health or Length?:look: I am concentrating on Totally Healthy Hair and I would say for me, it took me about 3 months to see improvement in my hair that was severly damaged, dry, brittle, overprocessed, overly porous etc...:perplexed

I started trying to correct those (health) issues first and concentrate on length later. As they say: Health Comes Before Lenght. So, if your hair & scalp are already totally "healthy" then just be patient.:yep:

But if you have any "Health" Issues with your Hair and/or Scalp, You need to start by focusing on those First. That will keep you busy and your focus will off of Length as you tackle Total Health.:look:

I saw better Health with my Hair at about 3-4 months. I am still working towards health and I am sure length will follow as health continues to be My Primary Focus.:look:

Depends on your starting point, hair growth rate, diligence, reggie, etc.

When I first joined, I would relax every 12 wks. I would see growth each time I relaxed.

If you're trying to reverse damage, you'd be surprised how quickly you'll see improvement with a few dc's, protein treatments, airdrys and rollersets.

HTH!

The health of my hair wasn't too bad when I first started but, it has definetly improved.

I have quite a bit of newgrowth so, I hope I'll see the difference when I relax.

I Also wanted to add: You said you just started in "July":perplexed Chile' I wish it was that easy. Have you looked at how long many of these Ladies have been at it?:look:

Be Patient. Keep Focused. Learn Your Hair. Take Care of It. And You Will be Successful.

For me, I knew it would take me about a good 2 years to turn my situation around. So, I am going to enjoy the Journey. I am having a Blast. (even if I did have to lose 90% of my hair to get me here)

This is Not for the Faint of Heart. You are making "progress" just by being here.

Relax and Enjoy Your Journey. :yep:

i can't really see a noticeable change in my length until i have at least 2 inches of growth (about 4 months). before then my hair basically looks the same, but at 2 inches or more i can actually notice the physical difference. that's why the saying "a watched pot" applies to hair.:spinning::grin::yep: you really have to be patient, & find something else to focus on, and know that growth will come as a result.

as as a natural, i really can't see my length unless i stretch or straighten it, but with a photo journal it's easier to compare my growth no matter how my hair is styled.

You are right. :yep:
I need to stop being so impatient.

I reckon it's going to take me 3+ years to get the health and length that I want, but then what can I expect, the damage didn't happen overnight...

Girl, July is No Time.:look: I just started in about Feb/March and I am still learning.

Just think --- as long as you're living/breathing.....it's Growing. Our Problems tend to be: Retention. Retention. Retention. How to "Keep" What You Get!:lachen:

HHG!

Thanks girl *hugs*

And no way will it take you that long, not with all that gorgeous inventory you've got going on, and your maintenance programme is on point. :yep:

I have been at my journey for about 14mths but I just joine LHCF in June, I am still learning and I started to see change in the condition within 3mths. I am not focusing on length as much I want thicker healthy hair. U have to be patient if your primary goal is length because u will get frustrated. I suggest hiding your hair for a few mths so u get that suprise factor..lol it works everytime for me.

Hey Op, I only check for length/progress every 6months so I won't get depressed/paranoid and think its not growing/getting healthier. I know for sure I will see "something" in 6 months time.

Enjoy your hair journey!

It took me 2 years to go from damaged to healthy hair! As soon as I started focusing more on getting it healthy instead of lenght first was when I started to see a change and now my hair is longer than its ever been! You can do it just don't get impatient. Check out my fotki for some inspiration my hair was DISASTER when I first started in August 2007.

I'd recommend taking pix on around the same day every month to see the difference. I know some ladies here have said they couldn't tell their hair was growing until they looked at their comparison pix and saw the difference. It is only in the beginning of September and that's what? about 2 months from July 1st to September 7th. Maybe wait until the middle of December before you begin seriously comparison.

If you still notice no growth retention then maybe something you're using isn't working well for you and you should re-evaluate your regi.

So do what you can for the health of your hair and forget all about it. Remember, a watched pot never boils.

Also, in another forum women talked about having a vision board for what they wanted to see for their hair and between believing they could achieve it, diligently sticking with their regi, and taking care of their whole body's health are on their way to actualizing their vision.

You started in July 2009 is very early--because you have to learn products that work for your hair and get the hang of establishing a regimen. For me personally, I see progress every 4 months or so(in terms of a significant change in length). When I started my hair journey, I didn't see progress till the first 6 months. Mind you I had a major trim that took off 1.5 inch. However, gain health before length even if the hair is full-blown damaged. Also, you may want to use vitamins and increase your protein intake to help increase your growth rate.

I suggest that you take progress pictures because you will see some sorta of change. At least, I do now when I relax every 9.5 weeks to 10 weeks. Also, protective style to retain all your growth especially with the fall and winter coming up.

I agree with everyone here. I only notice changes in length when I look at pictures and it's only noticeable after 3 months.

I noticed a change in health in 2 weeks.

I was about to say the same thing. If I just look in the mirror I can't tell, but if I take a picture at least every 2 months around the same date then I can definitely see the difference. Since I have natural hair I also have to straighten my hair as well.
